"My Xbox 360 Died and I Lived to tell the story" Official Thread

i looked into it- there doesn't seem to be a PSC for the state of washington. and since i'm from canada this is a little tricky.

I tried something else so let's see if something comes of it.

It sucks that we're talking about filing complaints with commissions and starting up lawsuits. If MS had just put one year warranties on these things this entire thread would be null and void...

I guess that even the one year isnt going to be enough for this console (the ones they return are just as faulty and the warranty doenst reset when you get a 'new' one right?).

How has no one talked to a lawyer about this? How bad does it have to get before a class action can be brought against them?
I'm mildly surprised there hasn't been a lawsuit already. There seems to be at least one new 360 tech support thread every day on here. Maybe someone should start an Official Xbox 360 Class Action Suit thread. We can all sue together! It would be pretty great.

I'm still waiting for mine to really die. It still locks up frequently and has tons of graphic/sound glitches, but the 3 lights have only made brief appearances. Has anyone gotten theirs replaced even though their console wasn't totally dead?

Yup, mine just started locking up frequently (couldnt watch a movie without having to reboot the console once or twice), already unacceptable imho. Having it repaired obviously wont do you any good though. I honestly think the 'repair' service doesnt do anything with the consoles they receive, they just send em out again at random.

wahey!

new entry into the "dead rising killed my 360" club! it crashed within 2 seconds of loading yes on the capcom screen. thought ooook and started it again got to the title screen when it gave me the dotted line crash thats been posted on the thread earlier.

after many crashes i discovered if i played hexic hd for a bit it would "allow" me to play dead rising for an hour or two before crashing again (warming up the GPU slowly maybe?) anyway had enough called them and getting it sent out once the packing labels arrive.

thing is i am loving dead rising its a quality game but damn it for killing the console >.<

foreplay?

Well, again, filing a complaint against them with the BBB got me a 50% discount and a free 1 year warranty.

What's nice about Canada, is that they don't send you an empty cardboard box, they send you a replacement unit right away, and then you put your DOA 360 in the same box and ship it back.

Now that I have that free warrnaty, every time my 360 freezes, makes a weird noise or slowsdown in a game, i'm shipping it back.

My goal is to ship my 360 back 20 times this year. All on MS' bill.

My second 360 died on Thursday, it was a replacement system and I didnt take the warrenty because at the time I didnt have $50 to spend on it. Im currently doing what I can to get another replacement for free or at least less then the $150 I was quoted.

A $400 piece of hardware should not die in under 12 months and lucky me 2 of them have without any abnormal use.

Get the replacement system with an extended warranty and abuse the hell out of it.

*the warranty not the system*

my 360 is dying... it works for 2-15 minutes before locking up, then i get the xmas lights if i turn it off and on... if i leave it for a few hours it'll work again for a short while, then xmas lights again... i'm gonna try doing this since the symptoms seem to match up, and since i have a pre-launch 9every10minutes) unit it's obviously not under warranty anymore...

guess the saints row marathons were too much... and i just got the 20 hours achievement too...

Mine is proving to be totally useless at reading streaming disc content, both Saints Row & Oblivion are unplayable. It's working fine as a Poker machine for now, but it's going on it's holidays to Germany next week. The only complaint I have about customer service is that there is only one song on the hold message, and hearing it on loop for 15 minutes was hellish.

god this is insane, what kind of manufacturer has had these types of problems as much as the Xbox 360. I want to buy one so bad for GoW, Too Human, and PSU, but this shit is making me think twice over and over again

In all my years of gaming, I've NEVER heard of or known so many people firsthand who've had so many problems with a console. I'm assuming the ones that are being manufactured now are better quality but the ones from last year/near launch - they must have a pretty high defect ratio - maybe ~40% or so. This is completely unacceptable.

WTF...is that due to laws up there, or is MS just nicer in Mountie-land?

My launch 360 died on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Good thing I bought a 1-year service replacement from Gamestop 'cause I wouldn't be paying for a 2nd 360!

What was it's born on date?

I called and got my repair for free(the replacement units have a 90 day warranty). I tried to get better shipping out of them with no luck. But, I did express that I do not want another dinged up previously repaired unit. Hopefully I dont get effed around again.

Good luck to everyone else.

Im quite certain the warranty period of the refurbed consoles is 30 days... I swear I saw that in the warranty.

yep

"Any replacement parts or Xbox Product will be new or refurbished or serviceably used, comparable in function and performance to the original part or Xbox Product and warranted for the remainder of the original Warranty Period or 30 days from the date of shipment of the Xbox Product back to you, whichever is longer."

Hmmm... I dont know, thats what the supervisor told me, 90 days. But regardless my replacement was exactly 30 days(thats so sad) when I called today.

So nice of Microsoft to give 30 days, I mean.. they could give nothing...

..

..

Well, they could.

Can't say that you guys are just unlucky, since there are so many reports of X360's broken, but my console works PERFECTLY since European launch.

I still didn't play DR though.

Don't jinx it, man.

The build date for my new console is mid-June. I'm assuming that's pretty good, no? Anyone have a later build date than that?

Well, my bitching worked apparently. I received a new console today that does appear to be new. The stickers were still protecting the HDD chrome and disc drive bits. Also the manufacture date is july 2006. Hope this one holds out. Anyway people, if you get refurbished unit, call them up immediatly, say its exterior is damaged and they send you a proper (new) one instead.

(note that this is all Europe, dunno wether or not this ll work in the US)

So my 360 broke a couple weeks ago, and I just decided to call Microsoft about it yesterday... Those tools want $140 for it!!?? Jesus... I guess it has to be done, unless anyone else has any other method?

I complained about this when I called. She said shes 'putting it in the notes to the repair center'. Hopefully I get a new one too. The refurb I got that recently broke sucked ass. It was incredibly loud, it even drowned out the sound of my floor fan sitting a few feet from it.

i just recieved a replacemet Xbox30 the other day for free. When my Xbox360 died and I called MS they said the warranty for the first batch of 360's had been extended, so even without the extended warranty I still picked up a new Xbox360. So, for me, I'm very pleased with thier warranty exchange service.

welp... i was able to get repair fees 50% off and 6 months of free live

was shooting for free repair - but whatever ;)

my god damned system just died. 3 red lights. not under warrenty any longer. f you MS, you have an issue you need to fix.

A little help and answers please? If it works hopefully that money is gonna fund my gaming from now till PSU or gears of war

Its a bit difficult, you're not making a whole lot of sense. What money?

My warrany expired last month and it died. I got a new one and I'm wondering if I can call with the new 360's serial and send in the old one

What?

Also I wanted to ask do they match the console serial to the one you gave them? Thanks

Eh no, they just send you some random used unit.

Sorry for the confusion. Ok it all started on Day 2 of Dead Rising. I went to try and kill the mad grocer and it kept freezing on me every time i got his life to a fourth. Long story short my 360 died. So I bought a new one and I called it in with its serial and I wanted to know if they would match the serial you called in with to the system you send in, which is my old. Also what I was saying is that I'm selling the 360 I get back to fund my gaming from now till Gears of War

Ah, because there's no warranty on the one you're sending in? My instinct would say no (on the serial checking), those guys are probably lazy as **** and wouldnt give 2 shits about the consoles they receive every day. But I dont have any experience with this approach, you should prolly ask someone that does. :)

X360FanBoyLOL said:
How do they? Is the serial on the box they send you or what?

Why would it be on the box? All they have to do is look at the serial in your file and see if it matches the one on your 360....
