Let's say i play software but i'm not used to this kind of brutal freeze... on a console at least.
I oftenly rode in this thread that freeze was the beginnning of problems... I just had one, but in the middle of a boss... i will be afraid while playing now....
 
Ha ha ha...
So, paranoia creates symptoms it seems.

2 weeks --> one freeze --> RLOD at the next boot.

It's almost comical... not

No red rings but my sound has suspiciously stopped working.

It works fine through my hdmi cable, but my hacked component cable is no longer working.

Does anyone have their component cable in for optical sound while using a regular hdmi cable per this thread?

I'd love to be able to rule out the possibility that ms has locked me out of using this solution. It was working when I was watching Transformers this weekend, and to the best of my knowledge nothing changed on my setup. I switched cables and made sure all the connections were good for a half hour to no effect.
 
The coffin came today for my little white and green friend.
Bringing the grand total up to 2 dead consoles while I await my the return of my third.

At first it was the weird color inversion problem blim had, but m$ would not fix it for free.
After that all it took was a little xbox domestic abuse and eventually she gave me the red rings.

But man does the waiting suck:(

It's SOP for the current crop of machines. My PS3, 360, and Wii (when I had it.. sold it for mad profit) all froze up from time to time. It was never a regular thing, but it happens.
 
SO, it was a RLOD, but the machine could boot today, after replugin the electric cable. I even beaten somes bosses without freezing. But i think it's just respite.
 
system #3 just died in an weird way.......

booted up to the dash...saw a message so I clicked and the blade came out but nothing showed up. After a minute I turned it off. When I turned it back on, RROD.

My first system died while I was on the dash too. :\


This sucks because Sega is starting some phantasy star quest stuff next week. I might just buy a new 360 next week -_-

edit: dhdhasjdhsj I called MS and I've been on hold for 40+ minutes

I tried the online thing but I get a fucking error.
 
sent my 360 in before new years and i am having no luck figuring out what is the scoop with it.

when i go to 360 support i get that it has not show that the coffin was shipped.


when i go to UPS i get that it has been shipped out and delivered.

here is what is throwing me off.

it's showing it was delivered to
MC ALLEN,
TX, US

and signed by some guy named Mitch.

no company name or anything of that sort.

i tried locating an email or way to contact someone and no luck to check this out.

anyone have any clue what gives or how to find a real way to locate this?

woohoo, that # solved my wonders... called an got a message without saying a word i should recive a new one within 5 days. wonder if it will RRoD on day one or last till i can locate an Elite seeing they are still sold out everywhere anywhere near me.

Simply put if anyone is on their 3rd console and that finally breaks, they should get a brand new Falcon.

I disagreed with N'Gai with his demand that MS should issue a recall, but as I hear more of these stories I'm more and more inclined to agree that it should have been one that exchanges the console with a new one guaranteed to work.

1. If I actually bought the extended warranty at Best Buy (which I never do, but due to the 360's reputation for breaking, actually did), how long was that extended warranty for? Would it be faster to take my 360 there, or contact Microsoft? If I go to Best Buy, could I end up getting upgraded to an Elite or anything spiffy like that?

2. If I have to go through Microsoft, can I do it online, or do I have to do it over the phone?

The exchange terms will generally very from store to store. I've seen some stores allow you to upgrade, but in most cases it is because they no longer have the model you purchased. It would be faster to go through Best Buy, but not every Best Buy will let you keep your hard drive.

You can buy several different plans, so I'm not sure how long your warranty is for. However, it is mostly likely still under warranty if you bought it under 2 years ago since the best buy warranty normally 'turns on' when the manufacture warranty 'turns off'.

Yes, I believe you can do it online, but I have never done it myself. Go to the www.xbox.com website -> support -> reigster and repair (image button on left column). Again, I'm not sure how online claim filing works.
 
Finally got through to an agent the old school way in less than a minute. When that automated thing starts talking asking what's wrong, just talk like you're retarded. You get an agent right away.

Anywho, I was given 1 month free of XBL (which doesn't mean much since my subscription doesn't end until 2011)

If you want to start a business, might I suggest renting out 360s to people waiting for their console to come back from repair.

My disc drive is playing up. Its constantly returning DREs and has started eating discs. Ive registered the console online and have requested a repair. Microsoft then proceeded to send me the (Australian) shipping address to the repair facility.

Question: Should I take this opportunity and 'towel' my 360 into a RROD? Under this situation Microsoft would then replace my drive aswell as fitting the console with the new heatsink combination. Would 'towelling' be necessary or does Microsoft automatically apply the heatsink fix to all dead units that they receive?

Go with Best Buy. You are assured a NEW console. That alone trumps any refurbished POS that I am probably going to get in a day or two from MS.
 
Mine is starting to freeze once again but I believe I'm getting dirty disc errors more than that - 3RROD or disc drive? I'm wondering which one will go first...

I was getting the same thing freezing and dirty disc errors and last night I booted up Mass Effect it froze I turned off my 360 and when I turned it back on I got 3RROD. This is my second 360 I don't know if I'm just gonna buy an arcade pack or wait at least I've got uncharted to play.

Motherboard change comes automatically with drive change - that's also true in case of the new heatsink. Don't RROD.
 
MS must have fixed the issue a bit since this thread doesn't appear nearly as often as it used to appear.

That said . . . I've started to get periodic RRoD flashes on my 3rd xbox. However, I have yet to see the dreaded checkerboard pattern.

Yeah I'm considering the PS3 route but I'm very locked into Live at the moment ;(
3rd one for me if it goes... I just wish they'd give me a "newer" refurbished one instead the manufacturing dates keep rolling back.

1267 dead consoles, from 863 individual posters. Refurb failure rate is 47%. As always, if anything is incorrect, please let me know.
 
Oh great... now you've re-posted your list I'll have to do my figures again!

By the way, there's a few people on that list with incorrect numbers and some without dead 360s at all (I know you changed the way you counted at some point). Also a few whose friend's 360s have died rather than theirs. Not too important though, our numbers only differ by a few percent so it's certainly a good indicator.
 
One more for the list.

Launch premium, 3 red lights, then decided to fix itself, month later, one red light Error 74. 3 year warranty does not cover this, so i have to buy a new one. Arcades are equivalent to $400 here in the UK. The annoying part, i'm damn sure it's broken for the same reason that a console with 3 red lights would be.

Thankfully i have other stuff to play.

Call Microsoft and just tell them you got 3 red lights. They will send you a refurb.
 
On the phone they said they'd have it verified that it was the 3RL, if not i would have to pay for shipping and repairs ($130). Though, i might try 'encouraging' my 360 to give me a couple more lights.

To be honest i want a new one anyway, and unless i get this replaced for free, I'll buy a new one. As much realism as it adds to Ace Combat, i don't like having a turbine jet next to my TV.
 
My Falcon unit Red Ringed on me this morning, which didn't surprise me as the first time I set it all up it red ringed. Moved the console to another wall outlet, plugged it into a surge protector and its all working fine now. Not sure if its due to the wall outlet or the power strip I was using.... either way think I'll be getting a second surge strip today.

My last 360 had a dodgy PSU as well, it started causing the console to red ring at least once a week until it finally kicked the bucket. Replaced it for a brand new one at my GAME store and its been like a rock since then. Was hoping these new PSUs might be a little more solid, looks like they are still just as susceptible to power issues.

Could be power fluxuations. Wouldn't worry unless it starts happening often.

Yeah, either that or the wiring in one part of my house is crap. Still, better to be safe than sorry, surge protector here we come.

Bit disconcerting though, I had images of me sending back my 360 and getting a refurbed 2005 unit sent back to me...*shudder*. Although since I only bought it 10 days ago I'm sure it would be the store's responsibility.
 
My Xbox 360 RROD two days ago but that was because of a temporary power outage. I resetted it and it came on with no problems whatsoever. Needless to say I almost got a heart attack :lol

Thankfully I have a receipt from Currys Digital dated Jan 27th, 2007. I'm going to take it back to the shop next weekend and get it exchanged... again.

Did you say to them over the phone that the RRoD still happens but only now and again?

Yeah, I told him again and again that I would get it occasionally, but since I can't get it to get the RRoD anymore, the three year extension doesn't cover it, so yeah, "things break".

I think mine is about to hit the shitter. I get frequent freezing and occasionally the screen looks like this while frozen:

Mine was purchased earlier in the year so I'm still covered regardless of what happens to it. Can anyone who has had to send theirs back in Bay Area tell me how long it took to get a system back? Sort of sucks that my console may decide to break during my break from college :lol
 
Just got my replacement today.

Manufactured Date: 2007-12-17

and.... my power connector will not fit into the slot on the 360.

EDIT -- Wow that took a lot of time, but it finally fit. Manufactured date is pretty new so I'm going to see what kinda drive I have. Will post back in a couple minutes.

Looks like a Toshiba-Samsung drive. Was hoping for a BenQ but oh well. Let's see how long this one takes to die on me.
 
Looks like I get to join this illustrious club too. My halo 3 themed 360 just died (3 RLOD of course) and it was manufactured 08/11/07. Thought it was my harddrive at first because games that would freeze would only be certain ones and when I cleared the game cache on the harddrive some would be fine again. I bought a memory card and everything seemed fine for a bit, until I started getting a random freeze once a day. Then Mass Effect started freezing like crazy and I left the system unplugged for a bit and the game was fine for a week. And just now Saints Row was freezing like crazy. After the last freeze up, I turned off the system turned it on again to be greeted by the dashboard with glitches on the screen (and it seemed to be frozen). Now it only shows the 3 goddamn red lights when I try to power up. I knew something was off about my system, it use to output really hot air. So now my harddrive is off to "repair" when it probably wasn't even the initial problem, and now I gotta send off my system. At least I still have my save files.
 
Well, my refurb that they sent me back in August, has a disc drive that sounds like the fucking Cookie Monster when I put a disc in it. Assassin's Creed has been shredded. Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 won't hardly load and this guy is trying to tell me it's my fault. So they want me to pay $99 to get it fixed. He swears up and down that this was a newly manufactured console they sent to me and the other will be new. I hate these customer reps. I've been wanting an Elite, so I went ahead and ordered one, hopefully with the new MB, considering they just got back in stock with a new supply. Maybe I can get a free game out of this and sell it.

But, after reading the fine print on the thing, it tells me not to take the 360 to the store, but instead to contact them for a shipping label, send it in, and they'll send me a voucher to buy something new at the store.

So whether I go with them or with Microsoft, I've got to ship it out, I guess? Has anyone just taken theirs in to the store successfully?

If I've got to ship it either way, the way I see it... Best Buy means new console (and probably just spending a bit more to update to an Elite with HDMI), but it also means lost saves from my HDD. I'd like to avoid that if I can.

I'm so torn.

Buy a mem card for cheap (i.e. ebay, clearance stores like Walmart). Back it up and grab a Falcon.
 
My DRE are getting a little too frequent (nothing like the 20 minute hike in AC only to get a DRE before the checkpoint....). The agent said they will replace the XBOX, I'm assuming the replacement will have at least the Heat Sink fix?

/fingers crossed for HDMI port as well :D

They gave me a 2 week turnaround but looking at the Canadian forums some are getting them back in a little over a week.
 
Just sent my launch console in for repairs. It took over a week just to get the box. Hopefully it won't take too much longer to finally get it back.
 
Mine officially broke! This is my second to break and I don't have Costco's kick ass return policy this time around. I just got the system at the end of April too :lol

Edit: Just got off the phone with customer support, I got an American person and the whole call took 7 minutes and 21 seconds including the automated voice thing in the beginning.
