N64 emulation?

Here are some pics of the cel shade plugin I was talking about. It's not out yet, but it should work in every game I think.

This is different than the cel shaded textures that someone else is developing.

Okay, so I'm still having a nightmare of a time trying to get your save working Crow. Every time I try to restore it it says something like "unable to load save state THE LEGEND OF ZELDA.pj."

Can anyone help me?!? I just need to be able to load a saved game for OoT so I can take some morning/afternoon/night screenshots of the same area.

I remember reading about the TrueForm technology along time ago, from what I remember, any polygon that doesn't hit another polygon at a completely 90 degree angle, or otherwise specified by the modeler, will be rounded off according to it's relationship with neghboring polygons. So anything modeled to look like a ball, or a rounded age will be automatically modified so that it represents a curve/archway that it was originally intended to replicate, but could not due to the polygon count restrictions.

The dude who is writing it into Project64 (Orkins), is getting it to do it by software not hardware. It will work on any card powerful enough to support this new feature.

The N64 emu scene is really rockin' now. Saturn is starting to look decent too.

PS2 and Xbox emus are getting interesting now too.

For N64 I prefer to use both 1964 and PJ64 myself, last I knew only one of them could run Ogre Battle:Persons of Lordly Caliber well, and thats one of my favorite N64 games.

You should see what happens when I tried to load it up on my version of OOT. It gave me a warning that said "want to proceed" I said yes... and i swear to god, link was all broken apart, literally torn to polygonal shreds in a ball shape, and I then started to float him around the environment (which was almost fine) until the whole system just crashed in on itself. It was sweet.

All of this N64 mod stuff is really exciting, I can't wait until it's possible for more stuff other than the textures to be edited.

yeh, i dont know what is going on there, but good chance it is a version mismatch of the ROM.

Yeah, wouldn't mind finding more about the Saturn scene... the Saturn completely passed me by so I missed plenty of great games. Would love to be able to play Radiant Silvergun and Panzer Dragoon RPG.

Are there any other emulated systems that have texture dumping? I wouldnt mind seeing some hi-rez street fighter alpha textures.

I highly doubt anyone's gonna redo SFA sprites into high rez! Lol. The work involved is significant.

I posted this in the N64 vs. PS1 thread, but now I'm really curious about the potential for downloading N64 games onto Revolution. If there are any programmers or people who know a lot about emulation, how difficult is it to make this type of graphical upgrade to N64 games? Does it take a lot of resources? Is it very time consuming? I'm just wondering if it's cheap enough for Nintendo consider. Here's the pics-

wow! this is looking awesome. i have never been into emulation, but after seeing this, my interest is growing. i have my N64 still plugged in (Waverace is timeless!), but replaying Mario and/or Zelda in this quality could be great. too bad that i would need to play these game in front of my pc. is this really an option?

That looks great. Anybody try the 360 wired controller with Project 64 yet? Just wondering if it works or not? Seems like it'd be perfect for these games.

You could... you know... hook up your PC to your TV !!! and playu on your fav couch with a wireless controller !!!

It won't eat you, the PC that is, I promise !!!

i know :). but i really don't use my pc for gaming (any more). i don't have a wireless controller and my girl is going to kill me, if i conect my pc with tv. different rooms and tons of wires everywhere, you know. but these screens are so gorgeous. damnit. maybe i should figure something out...

As Borys said, you could hook a computer up to a tv. I'm not too PC savvy, but I think you would either need an all-in-wonder card to output to an analog tv or a digital tv with a DVI connection.

On page one there is an adapter to hook a N64 controller up to a USB port. Check out the more traditional pics there as well.

Back to my question though, does anyone know how many resources are needed to replace textures like this? I know we don't have Revolution specs yet, but do you think N64 emulation like this would be possible on Revolution?

Whether or not it is possible isn't so much the question, but rather whether or not Nintendo will decide it's a good idea to devote the resources to undertake such a project. IMO it makes more sense than doing a full-blown, Conker/Xbox -type remake, but how much would you pay for such a game? Certainly it would have to cost much higher than just the raw, emulated ROM...
