NA - NES Classic Edition Launch Plans (The Power Line Returns Nov 11 to 13!)

I called them once (or rather my mom did) because I was losing my shit trying to input the level select code for TMNT2. The numbnuts published the wrong code in their classified info section.

Oh great, even more nostalgia for those 40+ year olds.

I wonder how many years I have to wait for the Gamecube nostalgia marketing machine to kick in.

I don't think 40 years olds are caring that much about videogames anymore, they have a life and kids.

For those who don't know, the Nintendo Power Line was a tip line that charged per minute to answer questions on NES games.
There were 900-number game tip lines, but I don't think Nintendo's was one of them. Any charge per minute was just like another long distance call.

Gamecube never captured the cultural zeitgeist like the NES. If anything they'll skip to Wii nostalgia around the 30th anniversary of that console.

Yeah, the GameCube will definitely not be remembered as well as many of the other Nintendo consoles. But if Sony's taking notes... The PS2 was the watershed moment of generation 6. Sony could win some huge nostalgia points with mini PS1 and PS2 re-releases.

I think Nintendo could do well with a retro Game Boy/ Game Boy Colour throwback.

Yeah I remember there was a lot of hype for the 20th anniversary PS4 that came in PS1 gray.

The Power Line helped me beat Mega Man 3. For a kid who only had the game rented for the weekend or whatever they were a lifesaver in telling me Wily's weakness.

So... is it free? Because the tip line cost quite a bit of money back in the day.

I would assume so, especially since it's only for 3 days, but...

(Someone should record the stories from counselors and put them online.)

Sega one time helped me through a Sonic 2 Game Gear level over the phone.

When Sonic 3 was brand new, I called about The Barrel. Only time I called them. They actually didn't have the game in and couldn't answer my question. It was on shelves, but their tip lines didn't have it yet. Organization!

I had the hotline number written on the top of my NES in Sharpie, though I think that I only called the number once because it was so dang expensive! Don't know what I was thinking by writing it on there -- I'm way to anal about my stuff to do something like that now.

I called the original Nintendo hotline so much back in the day (at least a hundred times over the course of a few years) that I still remember the number 30 years later. They used the 206 area code back then though.

Need to call them and ask them about why Battletoads is not on there...

Where have you been since 2002?

Oh, they're fully prepared, the service is automated. You get to hear recorded game tips, but also, and this is what I find cool, anecdotes from actual persons who were Nintendo Game Counselors back in the day. I'd call for that last bit alone.

I know right? 2000 pesos, give me a freaking break. I heard it's so far a tentative price and Gamers may have it for 1800; still BS of the highest caliber though. Here's hoping Amazon Mexico comes to the rescue here, because even if I could miraculously secure one from Amazon US, chances are they won't ship it here (they don't even ship amiibo anymore, sad times for me, great times for my wallet).
2000 pesos?????
What a ripoff
