Namco software sales for 2004

Its amazing when it comes down to arcade games SEGA outdoes Namco on consoles Namco outdoes SEGA. In the end,it really does show where the strength of each really is.

Some of those numbers are way, way, wayyyyyyyyyyy off.

EDIT: Ahh, nevermind. I didn't realize it was just for 2004. In that case, I'd say most of the numbers seem pretty fair...

Their Europe lineup is pretty pathetic. Only 2 good games when it could've been three!

Yes I am bitter cause we didn't get Katamari :(

The Baten Kaitos US numbers seem a bit high compared to GAF's NPD numbers...?

ACE COMBAT 5: UNSUNG NAMCO 4-Oct 320,475
ACE COMBAT 5 W/FLTSTK NAMCO 4-Oct 21,199

340k vs 485k = sold vs shipped

BATEN KAITOS: ETERNAL NAMCO 4-Nov 59,951

60k vs 160k = sold vs shipped

Apparently, percentage wise Baten Kaitos has underperformed. Also, keep in mind that US <> North America, although for the purpose of this discussion it's not particularly important.

Big numbers for Symphonia in Europe... worldwide the game will likely break a million on GameCube soon, making it the best selling Tales ever.

yeah, Baten Kaitos underperformed, especially compared to Symphonia, but the Gamecube lineup was really competitive with each other as it is during Christmas, it's not like it had much of a chance as it's much more obscure to the average consumer than Mario and Metroid...

Or it could be actual sales numbers since it says it's for all of North America, not just the US.

NPD's also only partial tracking with extrapolated estimates. It's entirely possible their numbers could be low to what Baten Katos and AC5 sold through in just the US.

:lol

Yeah, because another 100k sold in Canada (or 167% more than in the US). :D

It's a shipped number and it's obvious. It's considered sales by the publisher, because the retailers pay them for what they ship. Is this really so hard that we have to go over it again and again and again all the freaking time?

Not by those kinds of numbers. It's certainly not perfect, but with over 10,000 retail outlets represented it gives a pretty damn statistically valid number.

Sure, I'm just saying NPD isn't exact. It has far less coverage than SIRAS as far as tracking goes.

I guess Tales of Symphonia on the GCN wasn't a main title in Japan, was it? Or am I not reading it properly?
It was last year. Moved 351k iirc.

Thanks. So the PS2 version ended up shipping more. Interesting. Well, only somewhat, considering the userbase; still interesting.

Yeah, PS2 version of TOS moved more than twice as much as the GCN version despite coming out a whole year later (and it wasn't that great a port from what I heard either). So let there be no doubt that RE4 will probably do the same when it comes out for PS2.

It moved 50k more, not nearly twice as much. For sales of the console Tales games this generation so far...

Tales of Destiny II (PS2)
-850k JP
-53k AS
-903k WW

Tales of Symphonia (GC)
-351k JP
-285k NA
-184k EU
-820k WW

Tales of Symphonia (PS2)
-395k JP

Tales of Rebirth (PS2)
-600k JP

What the hell? The cube version sold 351 thousand and they shipped 395 thousand for the ps2 version, how is that twice as much?

If these numbers are shipped and not sold, then why do some match the NPD so closely?
ToS -- NPD (US only) = 279k
ToS -- this list (North America) = 285k

Either this list is bogus or the NPD isn't nearly as accurate was we think. I don't see how to 2 can both be credible.

lol, I guess I confused the numbers for ToDII with TOS PS2. My bad :lol

Well, still, what I said regarding RE4 still stands, its definately gonna outsell its GCN version.

TOS NGC performed pretty well, i mean it might of been a little under what namco were hoping but i don't think they would really be that upset at selling 820K for a 3rd party rpg. i was surprised they didn't try to release another one to see if they could of built upon it. I'm pretty sure it sparked high hardware sales when it was released in japan too.

ToS will hopefully break 1 million worldwide by the end of the generation. If it can get Player's Choice status then I think it's very possible.

How is Soul Calibur 2 doing on each platform worldwide? I imagine the GCN and PS2 versions have sold more than 1 million each right?

Anihawk's NPD total:
Soul Calibur 2 (GC): 766,621
Soul Calibur 2 (PS2): 708,965
Soul Calibur 2 (Xbox): 509,506

sonycowboy's total:
Soul Calibur (DC) 573,619

Worldwide, I'm sure the GCN and PS2 versions have crossed 1 million each. We don't have exact numbers though.

We don't have individual figures but we do have combined...

2003~ 3,500,000
2004~ 829,000
TOTAL~ 4,329,000

...this should be a wakeup call to all Japanese publishers. SC2 is the best selling 3rd party fighter this generation thanks to multiple audiences, multiplatform R&D is what everyone should be looking at to maximize resources and growth. It's time Japan catches up to the west.
