I still love "crossroads" by Bone Thugs'n'Harmony. Sure it relates to the Judeo Christian version of the religion but most people believe in some form of Judgements at the end right?

"Gangsta Lean", by DRS. A very overlooked, yet very awesome (and sad), R&B song from the mid-90's.

Oh, and "Somewhere Out There", by Our Lady Peace. Whoops, that makes two-- but people only have to listen to one of them. ;) :p

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.

Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta

Other than that I just listen to Dashboard/Trace/Techno, but I dunno I have to listen to that song at least once a day.

Anything by Rockapella, but for the sake of this thread...

Better, Harder, Faster, Stronger - Daft Punk

I had this on a loop for like, over an hour when I first heard about it a few nights ago. SO AWESOME.

Easy

Freaky Tales by Too $hort

and/or

Bitch ain't nothing but a word by Too $hort and Ice Cube.

If half this fourm listened to Bitch ain't nothing but a word and listened to what they are saying we would cut the "I'm a whiny punk and girls don't like my creepy ass" post by a factor of 15.

Magic Carpet Ride - Usually under "Fatboy Slim Remixes", but I'm pretty sure it wasn't by him.

The original is good too.

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!

Tommie....are there any Too $hort songs that are rapped over a repeated acoustic guitar loop? I heard a song by him once that I could never find, but that was the distinguishing factor. I'm not sure that it appeared on one of his albums. Kind of obscure but...it's been bugging me for many years.

That track is by the Mighty Dub Katz, and the Fatboy Slim version is the "Fatboy Slim Latin Ska Acid Breakbeat Mix," according to my oh-so-sketchy-maybe-even-bootleg CD of Fatboy Slim remixes.

All right!
Stop whatcha doin'
'cause I'm about to ruin
the image and the style that ya used to.
I look funny
but yo I'm makin' money see
so yo world I hope you're ready for me.
Now gather round
I'm the new fool in town
and my sound's laid down by the Underground.
I drink up all the Hennessey ya got on ya shelf
so just let me introduce myself
My name is Humpty, pronounced with a Umpty.
Yo ladies, oh how I like to hump thee.
And all the rappers in the top ten--please allow me to bump thee.
I'm steppin' tall, y'all,
and just like Humpty Dumpty
you're gonna fall when the stereos pump me.
I like to rhyme,
I like my beats funky,
I'm spunky. I like my oatmeal lumpy.
I'm sick wit dis, straight gangsta mack
but sometimes I get ridiculous
I'll eat up all your crackers and your licorice
hey yo fat girl, c'mere--are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat.
Look at me, I'm skinny
It never stopped me from gettin' busy
I'm a freak
I like the girls with the boom
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom
I'm crazy.
Allow me to amaze thee.
They say I'm ugly but it just don't faze me.
I'm still gettin' in the girls' pants
and I even got my own dance
{Chorus:}
The Humpty Dance is your chance to do the hump
Do the Humpty Hump, come on and do the Humpty Hump
Do the Humpty Hump, just watch me do the Humpty Hump
Do ya know what I'm doin', doin' the Humpty Hump
Do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Verse Two:
People say "Yo, Humpty, you're really funny lookin'"
that's all right 'cause I get things cookin'
Ya stare, ya glare, ya constantly try to compare me
but ya can't get near me
I give 'em more, see, and on the floor, B,
all the girls they adore me
Oh yes, ladies, I'm really bein' sincere
'cause in a 69 my humpty nose will tickle ya rear.
My nose is big, uh-uh I'm not ashamed
Big like a pickle, I'm still gettin' paid
I get laid by the ladies, ya know I'm in charge,
both how I'm livin' and my nose is large
I get stoopid, I shoot an arrow like Cupid,
I use a word that don't mean nothin', like looptid
I sang on Doowhutchalike, and if ya missed it,
I'm the one who said just grab 'em in the biscuits
Also told ya that I like to bite
Well, yeah, I guess it's obvious, I also like to write.
All ya had to do was give Humpty a chance
and now I'm gonna do my dance.
{Chorus}
Breakdown:
Oh, yeah, that's the break, y'all
Let me hear a little bit of that bass groove right here
Oh, yeah!
Now that I told ya a little bit about myself
let me tell ya a little bit about this dance
It's real easy to do--check it out
Verse Three:
First I limp to the side like my leg was broken
Shakin' and twitchin' kinda like I was smokin'
Crazy wack funky
People say ya look like M.C. Hammer on crack, Humpty
That's all right 'cause my body's in motion
It's supposed to look like a fit or a convulsion
Anyone can play this game
This is my dance, y'all, Humpty Hump's my name
No two people will do it the same
Ya got it down when ya appear to be in pain
Humpin', funkin', jumpin',
jig around, shakin' ya rump,
and when the dude a chump pump points a finger like a stump
tell him step off, I'm doin' the Hump.
{Chorus}
Black people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
White people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Puerto Ricans, do the Humpty Hump, just keep on doin' the hump
Samoans, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Let's get stoopid!
{Chorus}
Oh, yeah, come on and break it down
Outro:
Once again, the Underground is in the house
I'd like to send a shout out to the whole world,
keep on doin' the Humpty Dance,
and to the ladies,
peace and humptiness forever

In the interest of making this different than the usual music recommendations thread, I'm going to name songs that don't necessarily need to be heard more than once.

-"Hella Nervous", "Cottonmouth BJ", and "Mouth Fulla Caps" from Gravy Train!!!
-"Walk Like an Egyptian"- covered by The Del Rubio Triplets
-"Brothers Ain't Shit"-Roxanne Shante
-"Fruit Loop Dreams"- Shonen Knife

If anything: James Holden - Fine Day (featuring Kirsty Hawkshaw).
James Holden is the shit, anyway. I could listen to "A Break In The Clouds" over and over again and not get sick of it...brilliant stuff.

Brothers in Arm - Dire Straits

Actually, I've always thought that these kinds of threads should have clips...or at least MIDIs, so I'll provide one (if I can find it). Ok, they all are the same file and it wasn't done that well. :p

So I'll switch to another song every music fan should listen to at least once.

DragonForce - My Spirit Will Go On

Best guitar solo ever. Ever.

These guys are influenced by videogame music, so it's perfect for GAF. These guys are insane on the guitar, and if you think they are actually time-compressing (fast forwarding without increasing pitch) check this out...

Gahhhh!

The sex scene from Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District.

edit: also Sam Phillips, "I don't want to fall in love" from the first non-CCM record

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Some nice choices in this thread...

I'd say Orbital - Halcyon + On + On (ironically enough featuring chopped vocals from another song mentioned in this thread :))

Oh! And Take on me by Aha.

Or at least watch the video clip. That would have blown many minds back in the 80's :lol :lol

Mmm... Not the best song ever but probably a little different to the stuff you gangsta's listen to. I would say 'Waterfall' by the Stone Roses or 'She Bangs The Drums' also by the Stone Roses. SBTD has probably the best rhythm and bass I have evr heard in a pop song.

psycho_snake

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
Beautiful Day - U2

Im not sure how many of you like this song or if you like U2, but when i hear this somg once, I just need to keep hearing the song over and over again.

I'll throw in "Ten Years Gone" by Led Zeppelin for the sole fact that it's a great song that alot of people might have overlooked if you're just a casual Zeppelin listener. Hard core Zep fans have already digested all their tunes.

DrEvil

goldfrapp - strict machine

Yes, from the GBA freeboy commercials, but it's highly addictive.

Good one. A friend of mine actually brought up this song in a conversation a couple of weeks ago, and she was shocked that I still knew all the words. :p Great song.

Hah, I didn't mean to imply that I lived in "the hood" or anything-- far from it. :p But a good song is a good song. It's really a touching piece. :) But I know that it's hard to imagine someone as shockingly white as me listening to rap/R&B. ;) :p
