Name That Console! Give "Revolution" A Name!

GameCube 2: Electric Boogaloo
Nintendo EX Plus Alpha Double Upper 3rd Strike

Seriously, though, I think they'll likely stick with Revolution.

Nintendo Rebirth

Nintendo Blue Waters

Nintendo Revolution

Ultimately, I think it's just going to be Revolution, the name is too well established by now, and the lame pun possiblities (Nintendo leads the Revolution, Come join the Revolution etc. etc.) are just too strong.

I really don't think they'll call it the Revolution. They're going after casual and non gamers, and I doubt this audience is very familiar if at all with the name yet. And unless you've been following the industry for a really long time, the word "revolution" doesn't mean shit to you. My guess is it will be called something similar to "Nintendo Freestyle". To hardcore gamers it will seem like a really dumb name at first, but after awhile the system will be defined by its games and nobody will really care what the name is. It's always been like this really. When Sony announced their system was going to be called the "Playstation", I was like "OMG that's awful, sounds a like fisherprice product!". And when Microsoft decided to call their system "XBOX", and I was like "OMG that's retarded, worst name ever!" And of course I thought "XBOX 360" was even worse. But I got over it and now they're just the names of some really great systems, and it really doesn't matter.

Nintendo 5

Nintendo Ocarina of Time

Nintendo Dick~n~Around :lol

Nintendo Generations X

I really like the name "Revolution" and gotten really use to it. They should stick with this name cuz everybody knows about the crazy gadets Nintendo comes up with. Ya know!

I have an inside tip that it'll be called the "Nintendo Shut up about that stupid 'On' video, it was a lame idea and the video itself wasn't even that great, more After Effects plug-in does not make everything better Entertainment System".

Or just to fuck with Microsoft: "The Nintendo 361".

REVTENDO?!

Here are my serious attempts at commenting on the options:

1. Nintendo Revolution (NREV) - as someone mentioned earlier, it lends itself well to wordplay (with "Join the Revolution" being my favorite). It also goes a long way in establishing what Nintendo claims they are trying to do: revolutionize the industry.

2. Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) - It plays off of the same nostalgia they are going for with the "Virtual Console" concept. Further, it could also be analogous to what Nintendo is trying to do with the industry: reset everything - by resetting the name to NES, they mirror the resetting they are trying to do with the direction of the videogame industry.

3. Nintendo Freestyle (NFS) - It conveys the nature of the controller perfectly. It could also be played off of to convey that the system eliminates the constraints placed upon the other game system's controllers. "Be free - only on the Nintendo Freestyle"

4. Nintendo Unlimited (NU) - It conveys how all barriers (whether they're related to controllers, not being fully backwards compatible, geographical distance between players) are being done away with. You will no longer be limited.

5. Nintendo Sonata - If Sega can name their system after a crappy car, so can Nintendo. (edit: actually, the newer Sonatas are pretty good quality... let's assume they'd name it after the older models :-))

6. Nintendo Scion - Scion tC - a car with Toyota quality, a cheap price, but a large number of included features found on more expensive vehicles. A good bang-for-your-buck. Sounds like the Revolution to me. :-)

That's all I got. :-)

I also prefer Revolution, but I always went with this logic:

Nintendo Entertainment 5ystem
NE5

Fifth console (nes, snes, n64, gcn, REV), so I dunno, doubt that'll happen though.

NINTENDO
I want it to be called "Nintendo Entertainment System" or just "Nintendo".

Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
Super Nintendo (SNES)
Nintendo 64
Gamecube (ever heard many people call it "Nintendo Gamecube" in full?) <<<< weakest link
Nintendo DS

They should market the new machine like a piece of electronics. Just call all successive machines "the new Nintendo", and of course, where Revolution is concerned - make loud and clear noises about all the wonderful things it does (revmote / virtual console etc).

Aside from Gameboy, its their best brand -- my DVD player doesn't need some kind of fancy name, its just a DVD player. It has the brand of the manufacturer on it, and on the back somewhere on a little sticker is the model number. Thats fine by me! The new machine is a Nintendo. Does it really need another name?

Nintendo Generation
Nintendo MS(magic stick)
Nintendo BuyMe
Nintendo NOHD
Nintendo WOW
Nintendo VGS(Video gaming system)
Nintendo RVS(Revolution System)
Nintendo Gamecube next (NGCN)
Nintendo Reality
Nintendo M128IS (Mario128 I swear)
Nintendo !!
Nintendo ?
Nintendo's MMM (Money Making Machine)
Nintendo Noname
Nintendo BC (Backwards compatible)
Nintendo odnetniN
Nintendo IB (im bored... )
Nintendo Gamebox/Boxstation/Playbox/Xstation/Stationcube/cubeplay/xcube/cubestationx

I think that Nintendo will make a universal name for all their future home console systems.
Like they had with the NES-SNES.

Anything with the number 5 in it should be immediately disqualified.

I'd say Nintendo Freestyle is likely, and it's no worse/better than Xbox 360. Nintendo Revolution is also likely as it fits and they've been referring to it as such for over a year and a half now. I could also see Nintendo Phoenix if they do a rad logo.

If they name it NES it will just be confused with the older one when your'e talking about it.

Except that probably most people would refer to it as the "new" Nintendo. I don't think too many people would confuse the two though -- after all, one's been off the shelves for ten-plus years. Naming it the "Nintendo Entertainment System" resets the silly console naming conventions, appeals to that casual gamer that Nintendo wants (visions of that 2-button + d-pad controller come to mind) and it pimps the brand name ("Nintendo").

It would be great if Nintendo just called it the "Famicom" in Japan, too. Why the hell not? If it's such a rebirth then it makes sense. What have they got to lose?

It's a simple, elegant enough name. The focus is on the already-successful Nintendo brand, not something new. If this is gonna be their make or break console then they should do it. Go back to the roots and cut out the chaff. Nintendo Entertainment System. "I'm gonna buy me the new Nintendo next year" -- has a nice ring to it.

NES2

And will be abbreviated to 'Nest'

Which will make games: 'eggs' (with Yoshi 'laying downloads' on the online screen)and peripherals: 'birds' ('Wavebird' must have been a clue).

And with that, young Gaffers, I do reveal the truth. If I can set it up with my local bookmakers, I'll put ÂŁ1000 on it.

Quoted for truth.

Nintendo VGS

VGS = Video Game System

Nintendo ES

Entertainment System.

They should keep it simple...

Nintendo Revolution sounds like a keeper.

What they should call it in America:

Nintendo PSSBnZ (Pokemon, Smash Bros and Zelda)

... in Japan:

Nintendo ACPBTnM (Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Brain Training and Mother)
