You have a correct reading of my standpoint, I apppreciate you echoing it back. I don't think you're putting words in my mouth.

Do you think this impression of Trump is damaging to him or useful to him? Asking from the perspective / assumption that this, too, is a part of the mask. Do you believe that your viewpoint of Trump has allowed you to accurately predict his policies, his victories, and his shortfalls? Has it allowed Democrats to outwit him? Public / political reputation is not a new dance. I'm not propping him up as a genius, political or otherwise. Rather, he brings a different kind of wit to the table for which the current political paradigm has no effective counter. He's not smart because he has a high IQ. He's smart because he outsmarts his opponents. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.

When I think of Trump I think of Quark:

I don't think that the impression I have being beneficial or detrimental to him matters because it simply is what it is. I don't think it's intentional. I don't think his ego allows for him to ride the "I'll just act like an idiot and take them unawares" train, nor is he smart or disciplined enough to stay in character. I think you're right that there wasn't an effective counter to it, but I think the midterms showed the routine is getting old, and if the election were held today he'd be gone. There's still a lot of time between now and election day, though, so I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched. Learned that lesson in 2016.

Also, Quark is a lot of things, but he had a heart. He showed time after time he could rise to the occasion. I've seen precious few examples of that with Trump.

if trump is a retard, where does that leave the rest of us?

you don't get to sit in america's iron throne without overwhelming smarts

I think there are plenty of smart people who saw Joff as a useful idiot. Mitch McConnell isn't stupid, that's why he's the Tywin Lannister of DC.

we'll have to agree to disagree, 'useful idiot' doesn't make a lot of sense when you are the lord commander of america's army

trump waded through fire and rose to the top, the rest is history

I've seen both a lot of dummies and a lot of smart people rise through the ranks of various organizations, and I guess I just think I can spot the difference by now.

i don't even particularly like the kind of man he is, but i respect him

he's his own man, carries himself forward with unbelievable will, has heart, fire for the country

authenticity is in short supply these days, even if it comes from an ugly place

well yeah, there's no doubt about that

do you really think that's what's happening with trump?

No, because intentions matter. I don't think Trump wants America to burn or anything, I just think he's more concerned about Trump than America. Why the two priorities so often diverge probably won't be totally apparent for years to come.

i think it's a weird recursive loop where like, what's good for the boss is good for the company is good for country

that's probably what's bouncing around his mind, alongside 'america great', china bad, 'trump family good', 'business good', 'socialism bad', ... +

you could fire his mind computer for years and it'd register crazy shit like that

Maybe. Really that could actually be it. But it’s still stupid hah.

Regarding social media, there is a notion that social media is causing the narcissism, and I don't think that is true. At worst, it is like alcohol to an alcoholic: to someone suffering from these social disorders, Facebook and Twitter are like alcohol. They can get their "fix" on social media whereas in the past they would berate family members or involve themselves in petty social drama in their town.

I'm quite grateful. We took all the screechers from all the cities and make them bicker with one another in a virtual space. Avoiding these people is easymode now. NPDs take advantage of the social courtesy granted to people in face-to-face interactions and hide behind these graces to feed off people. Now they display their personalities all over the internet and secrecy / subversion is no longer a factor, so their greatest strength (arguably their only strength) is lost.

I agree.

It's not causing it, it's making it worse and feeding into it.

Fair enough, but I think he managed it because he was running against Hillary Clinton and even then just barely scraped by. And I agree, there's a tendency to see the devil under every rock, and I think the word is vastly overused these days, but I don't think there's any other explanation for how Trump acts. It's definitely not 4D chess because he's definitely not smart other than in the ways narcissists are smart at manipulating people.
Why are you even bringing Trump up in this thread?

you people put Trump into fucking everything 😂🙄. It’s pathetic

I figure Social media plays a significant part in it. Its pratically become a tool for attention and validation.

I think another epidemic on the uptick will be loneliness. Seems like a large partition of society has become overly reliant on digital communication for socialization.
Loneliness and depression are on the rise. I think that is a big reason why so many people throw themselves into politics and fake activism as well.

It's just what they do. They're obsessed.

Woke up at 5:30...got laid..made some coffee....worked on my vehicle...Got my kid ready for the day...did my job...did some yard work...about to go pick the kid up from daycare...made some comments on the message board and thought I had a pretty good discussion with some dudes with differing opinions...not quite obsessed with it but I can try harder
