That was hot! Like...

hot. I need to hear this.

I tell you what, i heard this 2 days ago and man....Nas keeps raising the bar. Just shows you why hes the best rapper in the game hands-down.

Also his new track wit Lauren Hill on the Clue Mixtape is another hot track you need to check out.

Without a doubt, Death Anniversary has to be the best lyrically sound song i've heard this year.

Also an older track but i wish he saved "Honeymoon" for the album...Oh well, i got AZ to hold me over.

That Kanye was horrible in my book. He took his retarded ass lyrics to another level. I like that he talks about something different but he sure knows how to make me say WTF!?

And he didnt even do the best beat on the album.

*ahem* Jussssst blaze

fuckin awesome. man I love nas... i'm still hearing new things on that streets disciple (sp?) and it's just so awesome.

Didn't like either track. The Lauren track is especially bad, I don't like her part in it. Would've preferred she rhymed instead. Death's Anniversary is listenable and lyrically solid, but it's nothing more than that. I'd take any track on Lost Tapes over this.

Alright.

Who is AZ?
Nobody bought Nas' record?
Who is hovie?
Who is K?
Who is Jungle?
"when Ill Will got shot"?
Who is Will?

Maybe I can appreciate the song if I know what's going on.

Maybe you guys are seeing something I'm not. Or maybe it just sucks.

At least it's not comparable to that shit on We Major, which was just embarassing to listen to.

Can't do that. Give me a roundup? Will is Will Smith?

forget it

it's too much background for someone to explain

bail out!

I'm nowhere close an expert on Nas, but I'll try to share what I do know.

AZ is part of The Firm which also included Foxy Brown, Nas, and Nature. I don't know much about what the group put out other than the song Phone Tap, which I like a lot.

Nas' records have not sold especially well since his first two or three efforts. He hasn't become a mainstream success like other such rappers as Jay-Z, Nelly, or Eminem, for example. I believe they still do alright - I don't know the sales numbers for his last few efforts - but they haven't had the same success other, perhaps lesser (in Nas' mind), groups have experienced.

Hovie is one of Jay-Z's aliases. Nas beefed with him a while back, and while he was lyrically on-point with his diss tracks, it didn't do much to help his album sales. Jay-Z came out relatively unscathed in the end, and both were applauded for keeping their words on wax. I felt Nas absolutely murdered Jay on Ether. If you're interested in hearing some of what went on, give Ether and Jay-Z's Takeover a listen. There's more than that, but those two should give you enough of an idea of what each rapper was angry about.

K is Kelis, Nas' wife. I don't really get that line.

Jungle is part of Nas' Bravehearts crew, who never hit it big.

I thought Ill Will was Nas' record label. I'm not sure what he's talking about there, but it's not Will Smith.

So, there you have it. It's probably not as detailed as it could be, but you should have a general idea of what he's talking about now.

>_<

AZ is this cat Nas introduced to the world on the Life's A Bitch track. AZ got a following after that. Him and Nas are kinda cool but since AZ is still cool with Hov/Jay-Z their relationship is not what it use to be. Yea, they did a Firm album with Foxy and Nature.
Nas is a bad track record with people. They work with him then they end up hating him. (See Mobb Deep, Nature, Cormega, Diddy)

Ill Will was Nas best friend who got killed right before Illmatic dropped. He shouts Ill Will in almost all his tracks. It's the name of his label also.

Edit: fun trivia. Nas first met AZ when Nas was going to rob him.

Are you ok?

Huh?

I'm not quite sure what you're getting it, but I love Nas and always have. Favorite rapper among the big four.

So what he is trying to say is... that... a lot of faking was going on in his past? And that he even maybe dead and someone else singing as NAS? Just a clever plot to... generate more sales?

Nas is at his absolute best when he's pissed off. Like...not just pissed off, but pissed *the fuck* off.

Pff. yeah right. I bet it went something like this:

Nas [with black hoody over his face and gun]: "Yo money run dat shit..."

AZ: "Ayo holup man. Uhhh.... I got dis dope verse. Let me spit it to u. I know u gonna like it."

Nas [mean muggin]: "What!! You think um playin nigga!?"

AZ: "4 real B. Check it......... [clears throat]..... Fuck who's da baddest a persons status depends on salary and my mentality is, money orientated I'm destined ta live tha dream for all my peeps who never made it cuz yeah, we were beginnas in da hood as five percentas But sumthin musta got in us cuz alluvus turned to sinnas now some........"

Nas [immediately takes off hoody]: "Ohhhh shit son!!" Yo dat wuz niiiice. Umma put you on my album B son. Word..."

AZ: "Word!? So u not gonna make me run my shit...."

Nas: "Nah home. Let's go to da studio..."

actually, it did happen like that according to AZ

I've always known he was a awesome lyracist (spelling?)

Its just his beats need some working. I loved both Stillmatic and God Son though, POISON was great

What the fuck? Come on...Nas wanted to rob someone *after* he became well known? I can understand him during the "hustling" days...but not anytime after Illmatic.

This would have been BEFORE Illmatic.

this was before Live At The BBQ

Haha, damn. But why would he do that if he was allegedly recognized by people and had a studio?

I really got to ask...what big 4?

Nas is one of the best alive... but people who put Jay Z in the best rapper alive I don't see eye to eye with... If I had to list four...

1. E-40
2. Nas
3. Method Man
4. Redman or Eightball

Ofcourse, the mainstream tops. Overrated, (except Nas) but yes, this is the general list of the "big 4".

Biggie and Jay Z are overrated IMO.. sometimes 2pac hits dead center with me and other times he misses the mark... of course I am a west coast rider so my list is a bit different with who I "feel"

E-40 is only good for coming up wit slnag that people catch onto years later.

My top 4 alive:

1.Nasir Jones
2.Siegal
3.Holidae Styles
4.Weezy F. (either you love him or hate him)

And im not tapping into underground/mixtape scene, only talking about cats that are known.

I just feel 40waters flow and what he is saying... he is the illest rapper no one really knows...

"The only time I feel Pac is on Me Against The World or Makaveli."

The song on Kurupt's new Deathrow album is the style that hits home with me... if you have not heard it check it out... the title is "my homeboyz"

I think one of my favorite Nas verses was on Verbal Intercourse

Through the lights cameras and action, glamour glitters and gold
I unfold the scroll, plant seeds to stampede the globe
When I'm deceased, by then the beast arise like yeast
to conquer peace leaving savages to roam in the streets
Live on the run, police paying me to give in my gun
Trick my Wisdom, with the system that imprisoned my son
Smoke a gold leaf I hold heat, nonchalantly
I'm grungy, but things I do is real it never haunts me
while, funny style niggaz roll in the pile
Rooster heads profile on a bus to Riker's Isle
Holdin weed inside they pussy with they minds on the
pretty things in life, props is a true thug's wife
It's like a cycle, niggaz come home, some'll go in
Do a bullet, come back, do the same shit again
From the womb to the tomb, presume the unpredictable
Guns salute life, rapidly, that's the ritual

I dont know if people will agree with me on this but

Stillmatic>Illmatic. I feel his songs came together better on this album and not forgetting the fact that "Stillmatic" is one of the best intros i've ever heard.

I was thinking individual artists, but if you want to include groups as well, I'd say Tribe is on there somewhere. :) like BUTTERRRRRRRRRRR

as long as we can all agree Phife dog > Qtip

Himuro said:
Agreed. Phife is awesome. He is way more interesting and drawing than Tip's lazy flow. I don't feel Tip's low key voice. Phife puts that ENERGRY into it.

where is his album??? his maxi-album was the hotness

Top 4(Right now) no order:

Eminem-Its kind of hard for me to defend the guy latey not only because of the whole racist thing, but because his album was Hot Trash. But, hes been killing the mixtape scene latey, and as I've said before theres not an emcee who I can think of right now that has for CONSECTUIVE good releases as Em had with his first 4 albums.

T.I.-Been a fan of this guy for a long long time..I spoke of Em's 1st for Albums, well T.I. has released 3 and all of them have been great. Has one of the best flows of anyone right now.

Andre 3000- If this guy put out a Solo album where he does nothin but rhyme it would be one of the greatest albums ever.

Lil Wayne- Weezy F middle finger for life. He improved more since already being established than I think anyone has. He would have no doubt been considered one of the worst as would most of cash money 7 years ago but damn.. Between his last two albums, his collabs, the young money mixtapes, and his other mixtape shit..WOW.

Phife's solo in 2002 or so was the hotness

Like Em one of my favorites can say so much and so little at the same time... like Big Boi more from Outkast, these days at least... T.I. will have to wait and see on him... at least he is great in the clubs... the only one I can't feel on your list is little Weezy... I will admit that he has grown into a decent rapper... but not in my mind one of the best alive...

Heh, exactly. I knew somebody would question who the "top 4" are. But yeah, I was purely talking about the mainstream.
