I would rather see the money goto incentives for privatized companies ...but, at least someone is paying attention to one of humankind's most pressing concerns.

Don't worry about Raoul, he'll be hiding out in a ramshackle cabin on the side of a mountain, while we are all booking flights on our first trip to space.

Can you show me where I said that? Oh you can't. Have a nice glass of STFU to go with your stupidity.

He may not, but perhaps I can :D

And Macam- any politician that would deny a child necessary medication so we could send a fucking robot to the moon is evil in my book.

Deny child medication so we can send robot to moon -> evil politician

(contrapositive)

not evil politician -> not deny child medication so we can send robot to moon

therefore if you don't want to be an evil politician, you should not deny children medicine so we can send robot to moon.

thusly evil politicians can only recant by spending money on childrens medicine.

Oh come off it. I'm all for learning, but not at the expense of the welfare of our populace. Honestly, I wish we would shave some of our bloated military budget off.

Assumption: sending things/people into space does not have any benefits to the welfare of our populace.

Do you have any idea how much medical research is done through research NASA does just with the shuttle program and the ISS?

Like shaving some money off by hobbling the Webb telescope is gonna compensate for hundreds of billions dumped into a fruitless war. PEACE.
Fixed.

Building an actual space craft to go to mars or the moon at this point is a waste.

The primary benefit of going there is to satisfy the publics curiosity. The project may create some research opportunities that could benefit society, but those benefits are not even close to comparable to what the funds could otherwise be put towards. Little is gained by actually going to the moon or going to mars. Most technology or scientific breakthroughs can be acheived without the actual trip itself via research that's far less costly.

This isn't about funding nasa and funding research, this is specifically about funding trips to mars and/or the moon.

From a foreigners perspective, im all for it. The money used isn't out of my pocket and i stand to benefit just as much as every american who is forced to forego social benefits in order to fund the programs.

NASA's annual budget: About $17 billion
US Military's annual budget: About $950 billion.
Edit (more):
Overall Department of Health: $642 billion

Can we get a little perspective here? NASA at this point is a drop in the bucket.

Also, the article is not saying NASA is getting new funding, only that their current budget is in line with their budget in the Apollo days if you take in to account inflation.
