They think people could go to Mars in that? But that thing looks pretty tiny for something that'd have to make such a long journey.
I haven't seen the concepts for a Mars mission but I'd imagine they'd dock with another module for the long journey to Mars. The Orion capsule would in that case provide a means to get astronauts to orbit, for general living space on the way to and from Mars (as part of a larger structure as I said), and for Earth re-entry.

you can't put a price on sparks
I think we have a good idea on how to park objects in orbit around a planet.

Yeah, this is correct. The Orion seems like it can be utilized in different ways given the mission/other vessels available.

this seems like a very bad plan that could very easily backfire.

The asteroid they plan to catch is only 8 meters wide. The one that crashed on Russia in 2013 was 20 meters wide. It would just disintegrate in the atmosphere if it fell on Earth.

Damn, I didn't know that the test was this soon! I'm hyped! I hope everything goes to plan.

Launch tomorrow morning! Won't be able to catch it live but I'll be following the progress throughout the day... Really hope it goes well, it's a big step for the program going forward.

Speaking of orbits being easy, are they affected at all if say, you start cutting big chunks off of an asteroid you are mining? Or will you have to attach station-keeping rockets to hold the thing in position?

That small? Do they have a candidate already selected?

Its exciting stuff. Hopefully NASA and SpaceX can keep developing on schedule so we can start getting out and exploring again and of course tell Russia to blow itself when it comes to the Space Station.

I'm at Kennedy Space Center right now getting ready for the launch! I'm always pumped every time I come here!

While you're there, you should tell them to switch to Twitch instead of Livestream. I can't even load the stream anymore, and it's 2+ hours away from launch.

I'm hoping this goes well for them.

I'd love to be able to watch a launch in person, but I'm in the UK so I'll just have to settle for the live stream of the launch if I'm still at home by then.

Haha, wish I could. I just got on the bus and they're already having problems giving us the disclaimer. They're telling us that it'll go off just as planned. Here's hoping I can get some good video!

Technically it may be Spaceflight Now's fault, since the NASA animation stream seemed to be fine, but the other stream has been dead. It's back up for now.

Is it going to be powered by love? I was told love transcends space and time.
Of course, what did you think was in those giant orange tanks?

At the Saturn V center. They're showing a NASA tv stream here. You can also view it on Ustream, although there's a delay. Maybe you all can catch it there? Might have better luck there than with some of the other streams.
