NBC, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert working on new Xena series

Xena was a spinoff? Hard to think of spinoffs that have eclipsed the original to that extent.
This guy started as a segment of The Huckleberry Hound show

I'd watch a new Xena with Lucy Lawless as a battle-hardened and scarred older Xena. Make it stupidly dark, gritty and serious, because that's the current-day equivalent of the original's cheese (which will be viewed as cheesy in 10-20 years).

Mostly I just want to see Lucy kick ass as Xena again, not some random new starlet.

"smarts of Katnis Everdeen"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No one could ever out smart Xena. Not even Buffy. Xena was literally the perfect warrior do not compare her to depressed teenagers

Still waiting on that Quantum Leap revival NBC/Syfy... Then again after seeing what they did to Knight Rider and the Bionic Woman, not so much.

Yess !!!

One can only hope Chuck gets another season like Heroes or at least a Movie.

Why? Chuck at least had some closure even if what happened was bullshit.

Such a show would get cancelled in an instant these days.

NBC would make it super series and dark and basically the antithesis of the original series with its self aware cheese and turn off at least part of the reason why it was popular. They'd finish it off by making Xena and Gabrielle super straight with no ambiguity.

Ryan Gosling as Hercules please.

Heh heh heh. All this time and he's still younger than Sorbo was when Hercules came out. o_O

thank god.
NBC would have been the death for it.
Starz is the only place it could work. Bloody and gutsy like spartacus.

you can't put a price on sparks
In my area Voyages and Xena were on back-to-back on UPN, from 6-8 on Saturday nights or something like that.

yeah, which is what i said lol. NBC has nothing to do with UPN

stargate isnt star trek, NBC has their own sci-fi series to worry about

edit: oh i see, you said xena was on UPN. Xena was in syndication, so it appeared on different networks.

From Lucy's twitter

Maybe she's just saying that because she knows nothing about it and its apparently a 'reboot' so she probably isn't involved unfortunately.

Yes the ending was pretty BS but I'd like to have a movie to see how everything ended up and another adventure, plus :

I hope NBC don't revive The A-Team, I mean I loved the classics but the movie was trash and I doubt they could top the original on TV again.

i used to love Xena back in the day, and it quickly outpaced hercules once it got its first season in.

honestly, as much as i love the show, i think we should let it rest in peace and humbly just accept the demise of a great show and not sully the memory of it with silly modern tv shit.

i understand it was campy fun and silly at times, but so were a lot of shows at the time and the technique to balance the silly with the serious i feel has been lost.

a reboot would probably feature angsty teenagers nowadays and might take itself too seriously.

Hercules and Xena came about just as I was hitting puberty. The combination of fights, goofy comedy, gods, magic, and wonderfully exposed breasts made them the greatest things on television. But now we're a couple decades removed from that era of television, as well as where the fanbase was.

While I hope otherwise, I feel like NBC is going to ignore what made people love Xena in the first place and zap it of all the fun and try to make it into a grimdark GoT / Hunger Games ripoff.

Um no her husband created the character and she was a producer on the show and still has a passion for the show and the fans. She still goes to the Xena conventions every year and she stars in shows from the Xena creators. She would know more than a random source if this was happening

Maybe this was a way to gauge online reaction to a reboot. Believe.

Someone post the Xena flipping half a kilometer onto a boat gif. I need a laugh!

These were shows that I thought were good, but it was only because I was a child when I watched them. On a lark I downloaded the first couple seasons of Hercules and Xena, and found both to be complete shit.

That being said, I guess this has the nostalgia factor going for it?

This is blasphemy

Anyone remember that Mortal Kombat TV show? I watched it as a kid. It gave me nightmares.

I watched it, even though I saw her before on Sliders (that might's been on around the same time) and Unhappily Everafter it was that show that really made me notice Kristanna Loken.

Only care if Rami is back for this. Otherwise, I don't see it having the same heart the original did. Especially on what will most assuredly be a low budget.

I was about to to go on a rant about soulless reboots completely missing the point, but apparently Raimi and possibly Lawless(?) are on board, so hopefully this is in good hands.

If it doesn't have slapstick, anachronisms and other absurdity, it's not Xena. Ash vs. Evil Dead is taking the right approach, so I hope this will too.

Fine. Ill do it.

So good.

She's the only one that can do this

Holy shit, she can actually do it? I always thought it was like the Tarzan yell and they just added it later in post.

Ain't nobody can fill Lucy Flawless' shoes. She's what I think of when I read all these posts about Wonder Woman not needing to have any muscles or be physically imposing in any way. Lucy was just a great big bruiser, and I mean that in the best possible way :p

Oh shit Raimi is on board! At the very least it looks like we could get 13 eps, awesome!

I hope they don't try to make it too serious to draw in a newer audience. I miss shows like Xena, Hercules, Sinbad and The Lost World, they were super campy and fun along with having serious moments.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
As long as the keep the awesome wackiness of the show intact, and don't try to do a 'gritty reboot'.

Also, better keep the Xena/Gabrielle -text strong.

fake edit: Just a rumor?

Started watching this show last year... made it to the end of the first season. Show still has some good moments but some stuff I remembered was way off. I remember it took Gabrielle a long time to reach fighter status... but it actually took her only like 5 episodes.

Also I recall Xena being essentially the The "Batman" character (as oppose to Hercules being Superman). But yeah, early on she gets "Super" mortal strength and it's throwing people around just like Hercules.
