She said the same thing when she was on that Conival stage with Bruce Campbell at SDCC.

I like the way you think.
What Strafer said.

Yess !

but she already has her new show on NBC called Blindspot which looks pretty rad. It even has Ashley Johnson

I like Jamie as the next person and despite seeing it everywhere at SDCC, THIS has my attention.

From Lucy's twitter
Considering what kind of person Sorbo is, I'm fine without a certain gif.

Oh my god!

I can't imagine it being anywhere near as good as the original without Lucy Lawless, Renee O'Connor and craziness like this:

Fine. Ill do it.

But we'll see!

I believe this is a fairly recent picture of her:

And then there's this:

Yes please, bring Xena back. I don't know about her reprising her old role, but she definitely needs to be in it. Make her train a new warrior or something. Good lord she looks fantastic.

It's 2015 - everything old is new again.

Yes, another cult favourite has caught the eye of the shadowy remake council and now US network NBC and production company NBC Universal are in the early stages of a reboot of cult TV series Xena: Warrior Princess.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who created the original as a spin-off from the popular Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and watched it become as (if not more) successful as the original show, are involved with the reboot, which will once again blend fantasy, comedy and drama together.

Lucy Lawless, who played the title character for six years between 1995 and 2001, is high on the list of people that the new team of producers want involved, and may end up cropping up on screen. She is, after all, part of Raimi and Tapert’s (the latter of whom being her husband) new Evil Dead TV series, Ash Vs. Evil Dead. And she’s been trying to get a new Xena on the air herself. "I'm always being peppered with questions about when the Xena movie is coming, Lawless told Hitfix at Comic-Con. “I'm pitching my ass off to make it happen, whether it's with me or not. I think it'd be funny to have a reboot like Ash Vs. Evil Dead — like middle-aged Xena in a muumuu with a bad attitude and a smoking habit.… Bring Ted Raimi (Joxer) in and maybe Bruce Campbell (Autolycus)."

Now Raimi, Tapert and the rest are on the hunt for a new writer to bring a fresh take. No decision has been made as to whether any potential show would be a miniseries like 24: Live Another Day or a new running show, but either way, the team wants this on the air next year.

I'm not the biggest fan of all the reboots/sequels going on right now, but I might make an exception for this. Just like with the Evil Dead tv series, I can't hate on it. Lucy Lawless is still superfunny and could totally pull it off. I was the biggest fan of the classic series back in the day, and I'd take it over any fancy big budget caped superhero movie any day. Felt wierdly underground/alternative (like Evil Dead) back in the day - although I doubt much of it holds up now. But back in the 90s it was something special.

Bonus points if they'll get Bruce Campbell to appear in Xena again. Lucy is in Evil Dead, so it's only fair, and he was on the classic show as well.

They might as well come out and just say Xena is in a lesbian relationship in the new series, instead of heavily hinting at it in the classic series. Although, didn't they (I totally forgot the name of her (girl)friend, it's been too long) kiss in the last episode or something, just to remove any doubt for the viewers?

I was in the other thread. This is new info that I would have missed if you posted it there. New news = new thread.

Yeah :D Hearing Lawless and Raimi involved makes me excited! I was just rolling my eyes before thinking there was no hope in it being good, but now....
Nah it'll get cancelled before the season finishes there's no hope.

If Amazon can keep their filthy hands from it, Netflix might pick it up.

Glad it's not for real. I'm as big a fan of Herc and Xena as they come and as much as i'd love for them to live on, the reality is they were a product of their time and no one makes that flavor of television anymore. Legend of the Seeker and Spartacus were made by some of the people who made Herc/Xena and that's probably what we would end up with. Modern television, especially the stuff geared towards adults, is generally darker and more serious where everything is trying to be the Sopranos. Say what you will about Herc/Xena but the camp/tongue in cheek/self awareness factor played a big part in their identity as well as the more serious stuff.

Ares god of war, for example, was brooding, menacing, and a huge ham. One of my favorite scenes is when it's the alternative dimension and the actor Kevin Smith plays him as the god of love. Big fantasy adventure shows back then could afford to be more laid back and have a good time it felt like, where I can just imagine what the Ares in Xena of 2015 might be like. He may be legitimately frightening and more fleshed out as a character but he'll also be missing a huge chunk of what made the original so endearing.

Back in my day we had to ship on pen and paper, and cut VHS tape footage together from analogue sources!

I finished a rewatch about a month ago.

While full of "camp" it was great camp. Not full on cheeseball camp.

One thing I loved in particular is an almost childlike Goku look on Xena's face. Every. Single. Time. She was about to fight. A "This is the greatest day in the history of days!" look.

I'd love to see it return. And Lucy would still be perfect for the role.

Remember when Xena had that baby that went around and killed gods, and when she turned into an angel and went to fight the mongul hordes?

Yeah they ran out of ideas in the later seasons

NBC eh? canned in 2 seasons max

I would be happy with two seasons.

People crap on NBC but I have seen them stick by a lot of shows with mediocre to bad ratings. Chuck managed to get five seasons and Community stayed on air for longer than I expected.

I wonder how they will get Subway sandwiches into Xena.

Why they bringing up old shit can I get a ending for the cliffhanger?

You lived on Saturday afternoon syndicated entertainment, didn't you?

According to Lucy Lawless it's just a rumour.

Ah well. :(

I was about to to go on a rant about soulless reboots completely missing the point, but apparently Raimi and possibly Lawless(?) are on board, so hopefully this is in good hands.

If it doesn't have slapstick, anachronisms and other absurdity, it's not Xena. Ash vs. Evil Dead is taking the right approach, so I hope this will too.

Yeah, Honestly if they do it, they should keep the goofiness but with Spartacus level sex and violence. Which I guess is basically the Evil Dead tone, yeah.

I'm sure it would be great. Just like Legend of the Seeker
