hm i loved the first 2 eps but not that one as much

moving to 8? to compete with flash forward? are they trying to kill it?

How is that any worse than going against CSI and Grey's Anatomy?

Parks and Rec has a shitload of dead time imo and is way beneath those other shows. And Sunny has sort of devolved imo into just a good comedy rather than a great one like it was in the early years.

Have you watched the recent episodes? They are hilarious, much better than last season.

yeah, i just started watching P&R, and it's gold. i like it better than THE OFFICE at this point, which has grown a bit stale to me. i've always been a huge amy poehler proponent, though. i only wish the rest of the UPRIGHT CITIZENS BRIGADE would get a chance to shine like she has, but a lot of her opportunities have clearly come because of her stint on SNL.

A lot of these characters really hit home. Very rarely do I actually relate to a television show, a comedy no less.

I was in the car earlier, I was thinking how apt the thread title turned out to be.

Loving this show.

Big fan of Arrested Development, 30 Rock, the Office, and Community is merely OK in terms of how much I'm enjoying it so far. I watched the first 3 episodes, and I thought the pilot was kind of a rough start. The second episode was better but not by much. The third was awesome, both because of the teacher, and because the characters seemed more natural. I guess the first two felt kind of stilted, in a way. I'll watch this here or there to see where it goes. It has potential, but it isn't a home run yet, and not really comparable to the shows in the thread title.

I think people really overrate the first season of The Office. Michael was downright annoying and dominated 90% of every episode. He was toned down a bit in season 2. Which is when I think it started to really get good. I'd take these first 3 eps of Community over the first 3 of The Office any day.

The first season of the Office is something that doesn't bother me, but for a notable reason: I didn't start watching until season 4 was over. I watched straight through in a few weeks, and the first season just kind of fades right into season 2 because of this. I'd imagine that I'd agree with you had I watched it from the beginning, but for those who came in later, it's not a huge problem with the series.

Its fine for what it is. Certainly watchable. I also agree they are better than last season but then last season was essentially a subpar office clone.

Office S1 was definitely painful at the time, mostly for those of us who worshipped the UK version and were thus directly comparing, and also because of really bad decisions like copying scenes word for word and copying the darker, more mundane style with a cast that wasn't fit for it.

That said though, when I go back there are some really great episodes and scenes in that season--Diversity Day in particular. Almost think it's underrated now because of the universal hate it gets.

I never saw S1 of The Office when it was being broadcast (hopped on the bandwagon during S2), so I've only ever seen the episodes when they rerun on TBS, but I really don't think they're bad at all. And "Diversity Day" (as Astrolad brought up) I think is a hell of a lot funnier than than a lot of S4-6 episodes.

this x100000... there are cramming this season with laughs, very little dead time imho.. In fact, i'd go as far as to say that I look forward to Parks more than any other comedy show now besides Sunny, maybe the office, and 30 rock when it will come back.

Parks and Rec still feels to me like a shitty Office clone, and I can't see it shedding that image ever, considering it was built upon being "THE NEXT OFFICE!"
I have to go with this. I tried watching season one and it just didn't grow on me. I preferred the Office, and I couldn't find a reason to watch both. But if season 2 is really as good as everyone says, I'll try to find time to watch it.

But for now, Community+The Office provides all the laughs I need on a Thursday. *climbs a random tree*

:lol Just saw the krumping. But La Biblioteca is still funnier.

The thing that really bothers me about P&R is why the cameras are there. In the Office it was like, ok it's a documentary (even though it's really not anymore, but at least you understand why they talk to the camera). I have no idea why the people talk to the camera in P&R and I just can't get past it.

Wow, this show is fucking funny!

Just saw the last 2 episodes on Hulu . . . haven't LOL that hard for some time now.

There's allot of funny shows this fall. 0_o

*mind blown*

I never thought of that. I haven't seen most of the episodes so they very well could have explained it and I missed it but wow...that never even crossed my mind.

OMG the stand up on your desk :lol
Great episode

I thought Abed's dad was a principal (Damn, Glee)
Gillian Jacob looks hot and nice link :P

I finally got around to watching the last episode, this show has easily become my favorite of this fall. The set up is as fresh as it is cliched, there's literally no hint at how the show will proceed. The jokes are simple without being overly set up, and the characters are already very well defined. And it manages to be endearing without a drop of cynicism, something The Office hasn't managed in years, and without making me want to vomit like Scrubs did.

Plus Gillian Jacobs is hot as hell. I didn't recognize her from Choke at all. Oh and it helps to have a mancrush on McHale.

Might change once 30 Rock is back, who knows. But Community has had a better season thus far than any other show, easily.

Instead of 8PM, NBC should've moved Community to 8:30 so that people tuning in to The Office will catch the codas. "La Biblioteca" and "This is Krumping" are both full of win. :lol

Ratings for last night episode:

It did good in the ratings. Next week it is going up against 'Flashforward', which pulled in 10 million last night.
I'm happy to see it was actually up in total viewers this week. Does anyone know what sort of ratings it would need to get renewed? I have absolutely no idea.

I'll personally feel somewhat comfortable as long as it has a clear lead over Parks and Recreation.

I don't know why but the logo from the commercial makes me angry.

It supposed to be one of those plastic boards you slide letters onto to spell words.

Then they use a thumbtack to stick a note onto the plastic board.

It's all graphics and not real, but it really makes me angry.

I called NBC to complain a few weeks back and I also called them dumb.

Other than that I haven't watched the show.

That's because Choke was a horribly boring movie that was forgotten before you even left the movie theater. I'm glad I saw it for free.

I love me some Joel and I have enjoyed the show, but it isn't at that level yet. Waiting for it to happen, not sure it will get there in season 1 though.

Just got around to watching the third episode today.

It was definitely the best so far. And, honestly, I don't even need any more episodes to prove that this is a show worth watching. I was still iffy after the pilot, but the second episode helped and this third one pretty much nailed it. If it continued with this level of quality I'd have no reason to complain. If it got better from this point on, I'd not only be surprised, but pretty impressed as well.

Thursdays are now officially "Office and Community Thursdays."

New tonight.

Social Psychology
For Professor Duncan's psychology research team, Abed and Troy are recruited as test subjects by Annie. Also, Shirley and Jeff start to bond as they gossip about Britta and her boyfriend.

Without spoiling it.. does it look like it will be a Chevy Chase heavy episode? I want to like this show so much but all the side characters kinda suck except for his.

Edit: If I had to guess, it's probably the episode they showed a clip of on Jimmy Fallon the other night, which would mean it's Chase-heavy at least a little bit.

Bout time Chevy got in the spotlight of an episode
watch all the jokes fall flat :(
don't forget the shows new time at 8/7 Central! 20 minutes from now!
