I cried laughing at this scene :lol

Also this episode had great dialogue:

Annie: ''I'm only here because of a brief addiction to pills, that I was told that would help me but actually made me loose my scholarship and virginity.''

Troy:''Annie, whats going on here?! Why... what is taking so long?! I wasted all day here for you. The Soultrain awards were today!''

4 was the first good episode for me. glad i stuck to it, i hope this show improves.

in regards to casting: i agree, i don't dig chevy chase's character too much. i think Joel McHale is a weak lead. The rest of the supporting cast is awesome: Britta, Abed, Troy, Senor Chang, Shirley, and Annie.

EDIT: Dan Harmon, the show's creator, going off about the move to 8pm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYDCc48heqE.

good choice.

Gave this show a shot again this week. Pretty disappointing, especially when other Thursday shows are just killing it these days. It's not unfunny, I'd put its comedy levels around P&D, but I'm more interested in the characters/potential of that show, which is what keeps me watching even if it's not completely uproarious every week (like, say, It's Always Sunny [although not every week of course]). I thought the stuff with the Hacky boyfriend was well done and legitimately uncloying, I just didn't really give a shit. It reminded me a lot of late era Scrubs. Pretty ungrounded, proficient comedy that just doesn't really appeal to me because of the characters.

"You see Jeff there are certain things Man was not meant to hear. We were designed, by whatever entity you choose, to hear what's in this range... and really this range alone. Because you know who's talking to us in this range?

The people we love."

That was so profound.

Don Harmon #2: "I'm mocking your tone"

Don Harmon #1: "I don't have a "tone"

Don Harmon #2: "You're the most tone having motherfucking I've ever met in my life!"

:lol

I haven't seen the show yet. Is it comparable to The Office, 30 Rock, or AD? Since I removed P&R from my dvr scheduled recordings, maybe I can squeeze this in if it's any good.

I think it is much better than the mentioned shows. It's most comparable to 30 Rock.

Ratings:

While other broadcasters slipped, NBC climbed from fourth to third place this week. "Community" (5.1 million, 2.0) made its time-period debut in the tougher 8 p.m. spot. The freshman comedy boosted the slot by 11% from "Weekend Update" in the period, but was down 31% from the show's performance last week at 9:30 p.m. The time period rise helped "Parks & Recreation" (5 million, 2.2) jump 10%. "The Office" (9.1 million, 4.5) was up 15% to post its highest rating since March, and "Leno" (4.8 million, 1.7) gained 13%.

Agreed. I think the best way they can salvage his character are seens exactly like that. Accidental wisdom, Michael Scott-style with a twist of lonely-old-guy.

Just finished last night's episode. It was a little weaker than last week's, but still funny (the sign of a comedy worth sticking with).

Right now, every other episode turns out good. So that means next week should be a gem. I was let down by last night.

Oh --- Annie's cute stuff.

I think this has replaced the Office as my second favorite show on NBC after 30 Rock.
Donald Glover is amazing.

last night was the most "must see tv" NBC has been since Friends and Seinfeld were both on their heydays.. Glad to see Community survived in its timeslot.. LOVED last night's episode. It almost seems like they are scared to give Chevy more material.. not sure about that... give him something and see what he does with it.

nice catch.

I'm truly amazed how many jokes they pack into this show. The premise could have easily resulted in a one-note comedy, but it's anything but. Every character is funny in a different way.

For instance, who knew Shirley was going to be so hilarious? She had me rolling tonight.

Maybe episode 6 will do it for me. I keep watching, I keep wanting to like it, but it keeps feeling forced to me. It has moments but it still isn't engaging me. I keep feeling like the jokes should be funny to me, but I just don't believe any of the characters or something. I can't put my finger on it exactly.

I don't understand this notion of "forced humor." Some of the funniest portions of Arrested Development were "forced" in that same definition (the entire Gob character, Tobias's acting, George-Michael's videos, etc) and yet it's one of the best comedies of all time.

OMG great episode.
The experiment scene was hilarious with Ken going mental :lol
Annie looks good in this episode.

Loving this ending credits scene

I hope the people going on about "forced humor" aren't also fans of The Office or Sunny.

I can't speak for the others, but I'm certainly not a fan of either of them. I can watch The Office, don't hate it, but I've never been a fan. I like Entourage and Chuck. I think I just don't like or believe the characters or something. People have quirks, and it's funny. But it seems like the funny in Community is being forced so hard that some of the characters are their quirk and nothing else. Like I said, I don't know for sure. I can't put my finger on it.

Despite all that, I love How I Met Your Mother.

I couldn't resist just watching this episode again on Hulu after coming to this thread. I love second viewings to notice things you didn't the first time around.

"I'm Doctor Dewey Seacrest. I think I'm better then everyone else because I'm 40."

The Abed & Troy endings are already legendary in my book.

Alison Brie at the end of the expirement, with her hair in that fussed librarian/psychologist pin, with the black skirt and her hips all sassy.

Yes.

That was actually my favorite ep so far. So solid.

Mine as well. Seems the characters are opening up and things are flowing more freely. Abed's (sp?) annihilation of the Duncan principle had me rolling.

And then he got up and left him alone. It was cute.
