Community hate is hilarious, apparently all of us are

"desperately in love with the two actresses on the show and justify its existence to feel more secure in their love of a show thats really not all that funny."

I watched Who's the Boss for Alyssa Milano (who didn't, right? :lol ).
I watch Community cause it's a great show.

Said it before... say it again. Britta and Annie are NOT my favorite characters on this show.

Even though I hardly post here I love the show and Britta and Annie are hardly why I watch the show (although it does get an added layer of funny trying to guess which moment is going to be gifed).

Oh and Troy is mah favorite!

Man, I've had "Getting rid of Britta" stuck in my head for hours now.
Oh, and I can't wait till they have Community stuff on the NBC store. I wanna spend money I don't have dammit!

"Everybody! Britta's a BBBBB!!!" :lol

So no new episode this week? I spent all of yesterday doing a Community marathon, show holds up very well on repeat, back-to-back viewings.
Is there actually hate for this show? I can see some people not thinking its funny but even if you are not laughing its still a very charming, well written and endearing show. The only jokes that I have not gelled with have been the "What in the something-something" lines, they sound forced, and the Britta spanking scene.
This and Breaking Bad have been my favourite 2009/2010 television so far and will probably stay that way.

Yes, see that recent "Curb vs sunny vs ad" thread.:lol
Haha, i've actually been doing the same thing, since i've recently gotten my family into the show. It does hold up well, on re-watchs. The first 5 episodes actually improved greatly on my second watch. (i previously didn't care much for the show at that point). Knowing the characters helps.

I forgot to add the third part of my thoughts in that post :lol
Pretty much that the thread you mentioned and the Family Guy thread are completely shocking to me that people find 'such and such' shows and things genuinely funny, whereas I see it to be complete tripe. In fear of sounding like a douche, I'm inclined to believe some opinions are more valid than others :lol

I really does, I had a like month gap between episode 14 and 15, so I had basically forgotten any random characters and lines. Stuff like with Leonard, I completely forgot him as a character at all. :lol
"Shut up Leonard, no-one even knows what you're talking about!....actually I did eat all the Macaroni, but it's messed up that he knows. :lol

What are other good shows that is similar like Community?

You might enjoy the three shows in the thread title, and there's also Parks & Rec. I heard Modern Family is good too, though I haven't watched it.

I started watching Modern Family a week ago. Only able to see the few episodes available on their website, but so far so good. FWiW I liked the last couple episodes of Modern Family more than Community.

Arrested Development is highly recommended. And if you have Netflix, you're in luck, as they just added the first season to Instant Watch.
The Office is an awesome show, and so is 30 Rock. I didn't like what I saw of Parks and Rec's season 1, but I saw some episodes of season 2 and I loved them. I've got to catch up sometime.
Modern Family is a great freshman comedy. As someone said in the MF thread, the formula is just a little tiring, as the show progresses pretty much the same every episode. But it's still great.
Two shows I haven't watched: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I have both in my Netflix queue, and they get great reviews. Plus, they're cable shows, so they'll be a little more raunchy if that matters to you.
I also like The IT Crowd and How I Met Your Mother, two shows with laugh tracks. HIMYM is great because of the characters and the tight continuity. IT Crowd has funny situations and nerd-humor done right, unlike Big Bang Theory.

I would recommend AD as your first choice. It's similar to Community in how the writing is awesome and how you end up loving the characters.

What!!!????!! How DARE you compare AD to Community!
*rabble rabble rabble*

But seriously, AD is awesome, Sunny as well. And HIMYM has NPH, so it's automatically awesome no matter what.
If you hate NPH, the terrorists have won.

I'm going to start with Arrested Development season 1.
Netflix streaming?

... you're allowed to like more than one. I sure do.

After posting my positive impressions of the first three episodes (previously avoiding the series due to creepy GAF obsession) I marathoned all 20 episodes of Season 1 and loved it. It still has a few misses and not all episodes are pure gold, and I fear the story wont really develop (unlike Arrested Development) and instead rely on self deprecating humor to drive its point, which will get old, but so far so good.

I'm hoping the next three episodes that I havent seen, at least the season final, drive the plot home a bit more. If the season final doesnt have a climax beyond JEFF AND BRITTA WOOOO I'll gamble that by the end of Season 2 I'll probably be sick of it.

Oh, and Alison Brie has facinating breasts.

I used to like Community then I got into Modern Family. Now that's the best new comedy on television.
When I watch Chevy Chase, I get reminded of all the things I love about that man. When I watch Ed O'Neill, he might as well be any boring 63 year old man. His.. charisma isn't being tapped into. Too serious. All the kids, except for the fat one, are annoying too. Which makes me like Community better. I love the mother on Modern Family. Thanks for the underwear scenes.

Modern Family is really funny and I love it but every episode follows the same damn formula. It's not anywhere near as good.

I've also made mentions of my slight annoyance of lack of continuity except for odd inside joke... there doesn't seem to be a single storyline arc going on other than potential hooking up of people in group. It's random, wild, somewhat chaotic situational comedy with a lesson thrown in here or there. That's fine for now, as it it's only the first season and they shouldn't be going all out so soon yet. But by season 2 I figure part way, if they keep to this formula... as someone said earlier, this can get old quickly, too much self-parody, it can turn some people off like Family Guy.

I keep hearing about Modern Family jsut for the sole sake that Ed O' Neil is in another sitcom... but he will always be Al Bundy to me.

Pretty much, and thats one of the things that seperates it from the God-teir sitcoms like Arrested Development. Each episode having its own little plot is fine for now, but will eventually get old. Characters will lose their schtick, and running gags will get tired.

Fingers crossed though because the foundations are there for something great. Great cast, great wit, and a good pacing. Best case scenario has Season 1 playing it safe, not commiting too much, and eventually exploding in Season 2. If so they're off to a great start.

How the fuck did that Curb/Sunny/AD thread turn into another Community bashing thread again? :lol

We must rally more people to our case, more avatars! :D

In that thread there's a guy that watched one episode and decided the whole series sucked. And it wasn't even the Halloween episode.

I think people that say that went into the show wanting to hate it and came out hating it... some people won't give things a fair chance if they have already formed a reason to hate it because, it's popular but they didn't get into it first. Which can apply to most things on GAF in general...

Costanza put up the post "Community" and while I like Community, it is nowhere near the heights of those 3 shows.

Blame costanza, he brought that show into the thread. I love community, but it cant touch AD, mang.

But there were two other shows being discussed, also. Not just AD. I could see why he said Community... maybe because it's just as funny as always sunny? or maybe funnier in his eyes? who knows?

I've only watched Curb out the others mentioned there... and I love both these shows Curb and Community. I love Seinfeld and all that. Community is just a different kind of sitcom to those, and I try not to say one is better than the other... comedy elitisim is pretty stupid.

Community is nothing more than a mediocre show. It is only praised so heavily on Gaf because lonely dudes are desperately in love with the two actresses on the show and justify its existence to feel more secure in their love of a show thats really not all that funny.
It's "opinions" like this this from the Unpopular Opinion thread that annoy me. I should've ripped into him but whatever...
I did post this though.

People who hate on Community secretly love it and only do it because it's the newest show/movie/game that's "cool" to hate on.
They may not love but it is the cool new thing to hate on.

Apparently we won't get a new episode this week either or the next.
Yeah, it sucks...If only we could freeze ourselves like Cartman, and hopefully not end up thousands of years in the future.
