I don't know how any of you could root for Ahmed. Ishe is no golden boy but god damn Ahmed is the biggest asshole on the planet.

My thoughts exactly. I was totally cheering for Ishe. Ahmed was a loser. "I'm still pretty" :lol.
Ahmed needed that mouth shut.

Why do people keep complaining about the editing of the fights and griping that they don't show all of the fight. We ALL know this is going to be on DVD at the end of the season with a ton of extras and extended versions of the fights. I for one will buy it becuase these guys are good and the fights so far have been spectacular.

I'm glad that Ishe beat Ahmed! Ishe is defiantely 'hamming' up his TV time, but I've seen some of his fights and the man is good. Ahmed was a spoiled brat that needed to be taught a lesson. Who the hell does he think he is sparring hard with Sugar Ray Leonard. It's one thing to be proud and cocky, it's another thing to be an asshole! That was tactless and disrespectful, and he needed to be brought down a peg or two in his lifetime. If he would get off of loving himslef, he's got the core skills to be a decent fighter, he just needs to mature and get the fuck out of the mirror. And get some fucking class.

i don't mind that the fights are edited, it would probably be impossible to show the entire fight every episode due to time restraints, so that is expected. I just don't like how they overdramatize it with the music and sound effects. Maybe its cause i actually like watching boxing and have pretty much my entire life, but i don't need the producers to bust out these "Rocky" sound effects to try and make every punch seem all powerful and life threatening. But i can see why they do it, to appeal to the masses. Still a very good show regardless though.

I wasn't that impressed with either boxer's skills. Granted the fight was heavily edited, but there didn't seem to be any defense. And considering how many shots they landed, it didn't seem like either guy had that much power. I am sure some of these guys have some talent, but that was the first episode I saw and I wasn't blown away by Ishi or Ahmed.

I still liked the show though, very entertaining and well done. I also agree that Ahmed deserved to get knocked the fuck out after the disrespect he showed Sugar Ray. Even as an old man, Sugar Ray could still handle Ahmed easily.

Man, there is no one great left in boxing anymore. :(

I just have one question about the show that's been bothering me, the last fight is going to be pay-per-view only right? I just can't see them airing a 12-round live fight on NBC and that is going to piss me off. Please tell me that it won't be pay-per-view only.

I wouldn't mind it being on Pay-per-view or InDemand but what about the people without cable that are watching this on NBC? Who knows what they'll do but I'll watch that last fight either way.

there is, the problem is none of them are in the heavyweight division, and the general public only seems to care about a fighter when they are 200+lbs. Floyd mayweather, Jeff Lacy, Arturo Gatti, Miguel Cotto, Bernard Hopkins, ect..are all exciting fighters to watch.

Ishe bitched and cried his way out of the fight to begin with. Thats why i was hoping Ahmed would knock his ass out. I don't mind Ahmed's cockiness. its not like its anything new for a boxer to be like that. Hell, Muhammed Ali made himself a legend doing it.

Ali made himself a legend because he backed up his mouth with his fists. The guy was cocky as hell but he delivered. He didn't get sent packing.

THANK YOU!! That's all anybody ever cares about is the heavyweight fights. Drop a few weight classes and you've got some aweosme fighters. To many fiar waether fans pay attention to the sport nowadays. I'm not slamming anyone here, just stating my general opinion.

EXACTLY!!!

I hate heavyweight fights. Its two lumbering guys who walk around the ring and throw like 80 punches the entire fight.

At least with Middleweight and or Welterweight, you get a good fight.

I mean who here is going to argue that the Gotti/Ward trilogy wasnt some of the best boxing in recent years?

or the Eric Morales/Marco Antonio Barerra fight wasnt awesome?

Bernard Hopkins at 40 years old, still defending the title.

I mean if you put a good Middle or Welter Weight fight on PPV, I am so there, because I know I am going to get a great fight.

Hopkins is undoubtedly great, but he is NOT exciting to watch. I don't blame him, he doesn't go out there to put on a show, all he wants to do is win, but his fighting style is awkward and most of his fights are not exciting.

The middleweight division had a bunch of great fighters for awhile, but most of them seem to be winding down now. Cotto might be legitimately great, I think it is too early to say anything about Lacy, though no doubt he is a talented fighter.

Gatti has put on some of the greatest fights I have ever seen, but I wouldn't call him a great fighter.

And I don't mind that the talented fighters are not in the heavyweight division anymore, but you gotta admit that boxing is in a transition period where it is still trying to replace some of the big names that have fallen off, retired, or got flat out knocked the fuck out recently.

I am sure we will have another era where one of the division is just loaded with an insane amount of talent, but even when the talent is there it takes promoters forever to put those fights together.

DM, the difference between me and Loki is while I do love Ali and think he is the greatest (as much for what he did in and outside of the ring), I don't have a fatal attraction with some other boxer that forces me to diss him 24/7 to preserve Ali's legacy. :)

And I still love watching boxing today, but PPV really kills it for me. I feel like it has to be something spectacular, like Hoya v. Hopkins, for me to shell out 50-60 bucks to watch it. Thankfully, HBO still puts up some quality fights that I can watch.

*bump*

New episode starts in... about 15 minutes, for the East Coast viewers out there. IIRC there's supposed to be some kinda tribute to Najai on tonight's episode.

Very glad west coast won yet again. As for the tribute to Najai, could have had a bit more about the poor guy. :( That's cool that they are setting up a trustfund for his daughter though.

Am I the only one who thought the fight sucked? They pretty much stood there and hit each other.

After seeing Najai's little girl, I hate that he killed himself even more.

I went to high school and am friends with Tarick Salmaci. Really great guy, very down to earth and a good boxer to boot.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him go all the way. Go Mike! :)

Agreed. The fight did suck, especially compared to last week. Not enough tension between the two.

I think this fight was good. Sucks that he kills himself after sayin his daughter is the reasn for him being there.
As for Manfredo coming back, thats good I know he wont lose again thats for sure.
Once again WEST WINS ! YEAH.

u know its weird.

When I read in the paper here in NY, that Najai killed himself, they said that he made it to the finals, and that he couldnt take not working out anymore, or talking to anyone about the outcome of the show, and not being able to fight and stay in shape, and he began to lose the boxer body, and according to his gf, couldnt take it anymore.

So now, if he made the finals, but he was eliminated tonight, then I wonder if he comes back as well....

Who knows...

It was sad to see a glimpse into Najai live only to find out he killed himself. I think he's a moron for valuing his dream more than his family. Still sad though.

I didn't think the fight was that great. It reminded me of Rock'em Sock'em robots the way they would just go off on each other. It was a barrage to the body or the head with just simple left, right, left, right and repeat. Maybe they cut out a lot of the jabbing.

I also hated how the other boxer felt the need to flex in that dumb ass pose.

Great. F*cking. Fight. :D

You had to figure, the way they set tonight's episode up, that
Peter Manfredo would manage to get his act together and pull off the victory.
But it was close. Very close.

Wow that was too close. I can't believe it. West gave a good 3 rounds. Then Manfredo went all out on the last 2. Well finally East beats the West for the first time.

Don't miss next weeks Contender because according to the scenes from the next.
The fight will be stopped for the first time. So someones going to get beat or cheat.

just saw 2 hours worth of contender. I was pulling for the west the whole time but i did root for manfredo. I guess the producers wanted to portray manfredo as the underdog and how all the contenders counted him out even himself when he came back. Besides his wife is hot.

Next week should be interesting.

Dammit, I always forget to watch this even though work is dead on Sunday nights and I can. 8:00 seems too early for a program like this to me.. it feels like a 9:00 show so I keep forgetting to tune in.

Man I thought Peter was gonna lose at the start. I really didn't want to see him go cause of his daughter and wife.

For those who didn't watch the fight was between Peter Manfredo and Miguel some Mexican guy. The fight was EXTREMLY close. The final score was 48-47 in Peter's favor.

But man I really felt bad for Miguel. At the end he was crying and you can't help but not feel bad for him. =(

I gotta admit that this show chokes me up a bit sometimes. This is the only reality show I watch plus I love boxing. With that said I think bringing back Manfredo was a mistake on the other boxers part. I think he might go all the way with Ishe. Cant wait for the next episode.

kinda lame that Manfredo gets a 2nd chance that nobody else will get, but he did a good job of coming back and winning that fight. MIguel choked it away in the last couple of rounds.

manfredo's my guy. i was actually pissed off when he lost in the first round and i was pleasantly suprised to see him come back.

Man Bosante did some dumb ish telling the person he was going to fight he was going to fight him then choosing someone else. Everyones hating on him now.
I can't wait to see what occurs in tonights fight. For the first time I want West to lose.

wow what a great ep tonight. Bonasante pissed a lot of people off, including his own team. What a dick move. At least this time I respect Ishee for rooting for someone from the East. Also the fight was pretty good. Never saw a man get a beatin like that.

Tonight was the first time I have seen the Contender ... it was really good!

How is it doing in the ratings? With it on Sunday nights, probably not too good.

It is a great show, but it sucks in the ratings, and they were saying that they may not be able to keep it going the full run, which sucks. I blame Don KIng for all this, and the rest of the professional boxing world. There are million different belts, and nobody has heart, they are all in it for the prize. At least these guys, so far, have heart, and have a story to tell.

Tonight was the first "downer" episode of the Contender IMO, because "the villain" won.

Brent seemed like a pretty decent guy, but after taking some hard hits early in the fight he just shut down and took a beating after the first round. Good thing they stopped it, because it looked like Anthony wasn't gonna let up until his opponent hit the mat. Speaking of whom... ugh, what a d!ck that Anthony was. Sure, he's playing a smart game by picking his own fight (in this case, an easy win) and not bowing to his teammates' wishes, and this is a competition after all. But in doing so he just lost any respect and trust his team had in him, and he's succeeded in painting a big-ass target on his back.

ALL of them - East and West - are gonna want a piece of him. :lol

That was really nice to see that insanely religious dolt get the fuck beat out of him. What a freaking moron. He just couldn`t shut up about Jesus this and that. Grow some balls on your own you fucking pansy. Yeah, God had a plan for him right.. :lol

I`m sick of all the religious crap on this show btw, literally all of them seems like religious wacko`s. I hope the guy that won today wins the whole thing, he atleast seemed somewhat rational.

It was a good move for him though. He had everyone believing that he was going to fight someone else, and even had that guy training for him while everyone else was taking it easy and then he chooses someone else that isn't really ready. Like he said, he's gotta think about his family, and that's what he did. Choose a fight you can win.

As for that Brent guy, he seemed nice. With that said, God must really hate him. :P

HOLY SHIT! That bish got his ass OWNED, Brent that is. This boxing match reminded me of Rocky 4, Anthony being Ivan Drago: He just knocked the living daylight out of poor ole religous freak, Brent.

This was clearly a case of "who's hungrier". Brent's young, in shape and has a hot girlfriend. Anthony has two kids, a wife and he's 33. He simply needed it more and he took it. While he made the right decision in fighting Brent, he never should have kept it from his teammates.

That was a wild, ugly fight. Kinda knew that
Tarick
was gonna lose this one, though, because it seemed like they spent too much time building up his story. Plus, even though
Juan
is pretty damn rough and immature in the ring, he's a lot younger than the guy he just beat.

Ishe seems like the only one still sulking over the sh*t Anthony pulled in last week's ep.

Juan will be out in his next fight if he doesn't get some kind of technique. He's way too wild in the ring and just comes in swinging his arms everywhere. The main thing he's got going for him is his speed, but he leaves himself open so often that any of the guys that have won so far could lay him out with no problem.

I think that, over the weeks before his next fight in the second round, the trainers are going to spend a lot of time drilling one thing into his head: "JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. JAB. "

How well it takes is up to him, I guess. :D
