Could this be played easily by a non-Japanese speaker? I have the Japanese Mr. Driller, and that's been pretty easy to figure out. I have some play-asia coupons sitting around, so I wanna know if this one is worth it. Anyone?

yeah, its easy to play. Basically two modes. One is against the clock where you try and clear successive lines as they fall. The other is a nice puzzle mode where you have 100 puzzles to clear, and you can only draw one continuous line (hence 'one line puzzle')

Very playable to non-japanese, but the menus take a bit of working out. Basically the top right one is puzzle mode, the top left is challenge mode. Others are options and edit mode (you can create your own puzzles too)

I like it, and at that price -$5 you'd be crazy to miss out.

Thank you VERY MUCH, Mr. Klaw.

Doh, it seems I can't get $5 off in addition to the weekly discount. I see no place to enter a coupon code!

Oh killer! I didn't know this was One Line Puzzle (thought it was one of the surgeon games, actually)

I do want this.

I want to know if my problem is stupidity or inability to use a coupon code on a sale item -- anyone able to tell me where the coupon code entry box should be?

I feel dumb.

why don't you try on an other non-discounted item ? just to see what happens ?

edit: but iirc, you cannot use coupon on item with special prize.

I tried a bunch of variations of items, but eventually my brain just melted, and I figured I must have been overlooking something obvious.

Oh well, if I can't use it, I'll just get it anyway I guess!

Coupons only work at a minimum of $40.

edit:

# Weekly Special conditions: This special offer is only valid before the countdown reaches zero (0d 0h 0m left).
# This offer may be ended before the listed time if sold out

Additionally, one or more of the following restrictions may apply. Please refer to the item's product page for details:

# Each customer may be entitled to purchase only a certain number of copies at the discounted price.
# Additional discount methods, such as usage of coupon codes might become invalid.
# Restrictions on payment methods may apply.

That's probably why none of my combos worked. Oh well. Good deal anyway! Probably cheaper than it will be to get the American version, if there is one, plus I got a cool mario magnet.

Thanks! I'll buy it. If anyone has an affiliate link, I'll buy it through that so you can earn some money.

What's the coupon code? I want to try it on an order of over $40.

The coupons are ones they send you with every order for $5 off. They're unique codes, not general ones that everyone can use. I'd give you one of mine, but I'm going to wait a little while because I still might use them (still got over a month before they expire).

Alright, thanks. I ordered through fr4nz's link.

Yay! My 3rd DS game (and first Japanese one). It seems like they're doing weekly specials on DS/PSP games mostly now, right? I'm hoping for some more DS ones. :)

EDIT: Woo! I'm now a fully-fledged member GA F member; no more junior member for me.

I ordered a copy as well. I figure it will be cheaper to get it now rather than wait for the U.S. version (total for me incl. shipping is almost $29. I expect the U.S. price to be $29.99 and that's not including shipping/taxes).

Dammit! I made a mental note to order this and then never did.

It's confirmed for an American release, right?

Apparently Chokkan Hitofude is ready to go, but the other three items I ordered with it aren't. Just as well, I've got to focus on getting a good start on this semester. As long as it comes in before my trip to Megacon sometime in February, I'll be happy.

Mine came about 5 days ago. I love it. I mostly play the never-ending (1000 line?) mode... I kind of suck still. I can only get to 400 lines. One gripe is that it's hard to come back if you fall behind in this mode. It's definitely less forgiving than something like Tetris.

On the puzzle mode where you have to clear the screen in one swipe, I think i'm in the 40s or 50s.

I didn't try multiplayer yet.

Everyone should buy this game, basically. It's easy to learn & really addictive. It made me stop playing WarioWare & Mr Driller! If I hadn't started KOTORII I am sure I would have played it even more.

i'd definitely love some impressions of this when you guys get it. i like puzzle games, but i wasn't really interested in this, especially compared to Zoo Keeper or Meteos. Might be one to pick up when it comes stateside.

I'll give some quick impressions as to how it plays, since the production values are so low-key that they're almost nonexistent. There are two modes that I've played, basically (with a few I haven't really tried, including multiplayer). The first one looks like this:

one-line-puzzle-20041203021915904.jpg

In this one, groups of lines (from 1 to 4 at a time) drop down from above. The object is get an entire line of black or white. You have to draw over a block to flip it. The borders are free spaces that you can move your stylus along that never fill up with blocks.

You draw a line by dragging the stylus. You can start a new line anywhere, but a line can't cross over itself. When you are done drawing a line, tap the last block it covers to flip any tiles that it crosses.

This is a very fast paced mode. You can also go into a mode that lets you start at any group of 100 (say, 300 lines) to practice that level for the main game. The patterns aren't randomized, which sounds worse than it is.

Here's the second mode. The object is to clear the whole board while only drawing one line. It gets progressively harder, and new puzzles are unlocked in groups of 10. I think there are 100 to clear, though more might open up when you beat those.

Just for reference, this shot is around level 20 or so from the puzzle mode and shows most of the solution (which has no time limit). It's not THAT hard, but you can probably tell whether your brain would be able to process that quickly or not.

I want Picross now!!! :D

Thanks for the impressions! I'm gonna try it out right now. I'll probably do a review or at least impressions for gamesarefun.com. At the very least, I'll give some short impressions here.

This is a great game--I just cleared all 100 puzzles earlier today. I think it's weird that they let you turn hints on and off with no apparent effect on your progress through the mode. I haven't broke 400 lines yet, but mainly because I've been hooked on Daigasso! Band Bros.

Has anybody had trouble with their touch screens with this game? Mine often clears the line when I don't want it to. I'm tempted to blame it on this Pelican screen protector--things started to seem fishy about a day after putting that on. If anybody has had any similar troubles with or without the protector, let me know--I'm starting to get worried. Or if anybody knows how to get the freaking thing off, let me know too.

How do you turn on hints?!?!?

I am about 60 puzzles through. I wish I knew about the hints! :lol

I haven't had any fishy touch screen issues, for the record, though I've sometimes accidentally tapped the screen & not been able to draw a new line, causing me to lose! :-/

Gamefaqs finally got around to putting my faq up:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/game/924904.html

The hints are the little buttons at the top of the Checkmate mode screen. Especially seeing your previous path helps a lot.

I haven't had any issues with the touch screen, and I got the hori screen protectors on... maybe it's the same issue with the DS that caused sawaru wario to not work properly?

I didn't realize that was the hint. :lol

The does help, no doubt.
