Here's the problem. I've been job hunting for some time now, and 2 weeks ago I got a call from a pizza shop near where I live telling me to come in for an interview. My grandmother had pulled some strings with the owners to get me in after I dropped off my application. I was happy that I was finally gonna get a job, although it wasn't quite what I wanted. When I started work, I worked for 3 hours that day. I thought it was ok, but meh, I still wasn't sure. The next time I worked I worked till close on a busy night and I just lost all hope. I was multi-tasking super fast. I didn't like working with food to begin with, but answering all those phone calls for orders and taking orders at the desk was getting to me. I'll admit, I'm not the fastest human being. Well, I kept my unhappiness to myself, thinking I'll just get over it and things'll get better with practice.

The next day, my mom told me she saw on a window at our local Giant Eagle that their video rental department was hiring someone to work when they opened till 5pm. I liked that, because I didn't wanna work late hours at night, and that's what the pizza shop was having me do. And...come on, what all do they do at a video rental store other than clean, rent out videos, and put videos back on the shelves. I go in there and half the time I see them sitting behind the counter doing nothing. And they make the same as me (minimum wage). So I put in an application.

Well today I got called in for an interview, and here's my dillema. Do I quit the pizza job for the nicer video store job, or do I just keep at the pizza job that I don't like. I'm leaning towards going to the video rental job, but how do I quit the pizza shop job? I mean, my grandmother pulled the strings to get me in, that would kinda suck for the owner of the pizza shop if I just quit. What should I do?

The video shop job is a done deal? If it is, quit the pizza job. There is no reason to be so unhappy at work, at least not when you have another option available to you. The pizza shop will get over it.

Work is secondary to your own mental health.

If you think that you'll be happier at the video store, go for it.

Congrats on the job, by the way.

Video store > pizza shop.

Give a week's notice. If it were an actual professional job for a big company, I'd say two weeks, but this is a pizza shop. If they ask, tell them you found a better deal, don't say where unless you're personal friends with the boss, they don't need to know. Most employers expect new hires to be gone within a month of starting anyway -- especially at jobs like that.

Yeah, I'm gonna go the interview and hopefully get the job soon. Then I'll worry about quitting the pizza shop job. I've pretty much decided that's what I'll do. Thanks for the help, folks!

Ha, I just got a job at a video store about a week ago, and I thought it would be a breeze as well.

Thing is, theres only like 2 video stores where I live, and it gets pretty damn bussy.

carrying a stack of 20 or more vids is a tricky thing to do (ie, not drop the fuckin things).... we get tons of phone calls seems like phone's ringing every minute.

people seem to flock to the register all at once, each of them with their own problem (like complaining about a late fee, ect)

.........but! I'm getting use to everything quite fast, and it helps that my coworkers are good people....free movie rentals is the icing on the not-so-good cake........

so to sum it all up......if you want the vid store job, I'd say go for it, but dont quit the pizza one, until you've got the other one secured.

What the hell? Why would anyone make a phone call to a video rental store? What do they say? If they're late returning the damn video, just pay the fee and be done with it. Not like we're asking for your soul. The reason I think it'll be easy is because it's right when they open until 5. It's the slow time of day around where I live. Half the time the employee(s) when I go in are just BSing or the lady is filing her nails...

I've been out job hunting for the past few weeks myself and I've considered possible similar situations. My brother gave me some great advice::

"You need to look out for number 1."

When it comes to your job, you must put yourself and your concerns above all others. Your job is your lively hood. If you think the video job would be a better for you, don't hesitate because you're worried about someone else's feelings or concerns. If your grandma loves you, she'll understand. Regardless, it'd be worse to pass up on a better opportunity someplace else.

Alot of people want to make sure when their movies are due back.....some want to ask what new movies will be released, all bullshit like that.....and some people will argue with you, to try and get out of a late fee (the classic: I returned it but you didnt check it in!!).......My coworker also got some racist hag shouting slurs at him for not taking off the late fee....

But, I mean, if it seems a bit more low key at the one you want to work in, then its all good.
It is a bit calmer before 5......we close at 11pm.....and you wouldnt belive how many people wait till 10:30 to do their renting... Good luck with whatever you choose.
