Come on, show your love. I know I am not the only PC head with a taste for the good and old Need for Speed (and not the EA trax shit from these days)

I thought it was a great game too. Would have liked the suspension and collision detection (sticky cars) to be more convincing though. Also, Need for Speed IV replaced it pretty effectively since it included all the old tracks and held mostly identical gameplay.

Some great tracks. Especially the winter wonderland tracks and the mountain track (when you raced in a storm!). It was the best looking racing game on the PC when it came out. And as usual in an NFS game, track design is great. I think its bad though that there arent any normal road tracks that dont loop like in NFS 1.

And yes the game really looked great with a V2 card. The snow effects where superb!

However, I thought Viper Racing had a more realistic car simulation. In Viper Racing there seemed to be a real simulation of the cars suspension, something I thought NFS 3 lacked, just watch your car in a replay from an outside view and you will see that the car almost floats over the road.

And when we are talking about NFS, some of my other favorites in the series are the first one which has superb "normal" road tracks and decent -for its time- car handling. NFS 2 have also some cool tracks like the Greece and German track (but IMHO its the weakest in the series). As for the rest in the series, I dont care much for NFS 5 (cool but I want to drive more than Porsches) and the rest (NFSU).

I loved this game. I probably have not played any PC racegame as much as NFSIII.

I wish EA would stop with this Underground crap and give me a decent NFS. On a related note, isn't EA developing a new NFS for Xbox2? Perhaps they can restore NFS to it's glorydays?

NFSIV was an improvement in many areas, but IMHO it lacked many of the great details that made NFSIII legendary. NFSIII is still my favourite arcade racer ever, it was too much fun. Those dial-up "police vs thief" matches against my friends were golden.

We are not allowed to enjoy EA games on this forum apparently they are “The fuckin devil”
Oh, sure they are. But NFSIII was one of their last true AAA games. I miss a lot the old EA.

I wish I could buy the soundtrack, I ripped it from the game but it is quite compressed. It makes a GREAT cd if you want to get a speeding ticket by the way :lol

I liked it, but high stakes was better.

IAWTP. High Stakes looked really nice for its time especially at 1280x1024 resolution. Even had car damage. The custom car mod scene was great too.

NFS: HP2 (PS2 version only, of course) >> NFSIII. I've been playing the series since the 3DO says and I can safely say that HP2 rocks NFSIII.

I would rank the games.

1: The Need for Speed (PC)
2: Need for Speed 2 (PSX)
3: Need for Speed 3 (PC/PSX)
4: Need for Speed Underground
5: Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed

I havent played Need for Speed 4, HP2 or Underground 2 enough.

EA needs to stop with this underground crap! NFS:HP2 (ps2 version only) was the best racing game this gen IMO.

Fuck this fast and furious wannabe BS.

NFS: Special Edition >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NFS.
