Need for speed Series, The Best one

Alright folks, i was just curious which nfs game you think is the best in the series thus far. Dont add most wanted, because none of us has played the game before.

Here is the complete list:

nfs7eo.jpg
nfs18nk.jpg
nfs26ve.jpg
nfs36sm.jpg

nfs44hu.jpg
nfs53yj.jpg
nfs60pe.jpg
nfs76gh.jpg

nfs83ap.jpg

From what i have played over the years and own now, i would have to say the underground series is wack and i like and respect the old games better. From nfs 1 to nfs 2 and nfs 2 se and nfs 3 and nfs high stakes. NFS PU was a little bit hard, but overall pretty good and great graphics. Nfs hot pursuit 2 is good, but not great. Where are the cop chases?

I aint too hype about most wanted, i want the weather effects and the intense cop chases, so you know, the old series has my vote.

Porsche Unleashed by far. Made by Eden who is now doing the new Test Drive. :D

Underground 2 is actually pretty decent too once you get passed all the bling BS.

Hot Pursuit 2, Underground 2, and Rivals are my favorites.

Hot Pursuit 2 and Porsche Unleashed by far.

Underground 2 and Rivals are the worst in years, although not horrible.

I have never really liked any of the TDs but since Eden is making Test Drive Unlimited for the 360, its got my attention. http://www.testdriveunlimited.com/

DAMN, :D Looks great. I own test drive 4(pc), test drive 5(pc) ( which is a major upgrade to 4 ) , test drive off road 3(pc), test drive off road xbox version, and test drive 2002 on xbox, which i think so far is the best in the TD series. Cant wait to play test drive on 360 tho.

When EA invited people to their Vancouver studio for a NFS: Most Wanted Community Day event, they were treated to a video montage of all of the Need fot Speed games (including Most Wanted)

I hope they release this video, or at least put it on the game :D

The best for me was Need for Speed: High Stakes for PC. It would be Hot Pursuit, but High Stakes had all the Hot Pursuit content in it.. I don't care for any of the new underground games at all.

what he said about PU! cockpit view, great physics, great presentation and tracks.. loved that game (PC version)

Porsche Unleashed
Awesome game (good challenges, tracks, LOTS of cars...), early stages were so funny (driving with car from 1940, top speed around 100 km/h).

Am I the only one who finds the NFS series more FUN to play than serious racers like GT and Forza?

Nope. I love arcade-style racing games. A couple of years ago I actually bought this NFS bundle pack from Wal-mart. (Not sure if it's the bundle that was shown a few posts above or an older version of it, but I know I did get a bunch of old NFS games for PC for around $20 or so.) I really hate the 32-bit gen 3-D graphics so most of the old NFS games hurt my eyes too much to play anymore (scrambled mess), but Hot Pursuit 2 looks great, and is fun to play (on PC).

FTR, Speed Devils on Dreamcast is my favorite racing game of this generation. Wasn't the deepest game, wasn't the hardest game, wasn't the prettiest game, but damnit if the tracks weren't fun as hell to drive around in.

The first. Rest have been trash. I remember paying full price for NFS 2. Never have I been more angry at a game purchase. Fucking garbage piece of shit game. Fuck this shitty series. Fuck EA.

I honestly can't understand that, as I can think of nothing that the very first game did better than the next few.

Playing Hot Pursuit PC on my souped up Voodoo II SLI and just marvelling at the beautiful gfx and awesome gameplay; those were the days.

I've only played a lot of
I, III, High stakes, and Hot pursuit 2.
I can't speak for quality because I played the games when they came out so they were so far apart its hard to tell.

I remember I on the PS1 blew my mind because it was one of the first games I ever played that was 3D. I loved the3 point to point races.

I have to say the one I logged the most hours into was HighSTakes. I am not sure why but it is the only one I beat 100%. Probably just a time of life thing, right game at the right time.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 PC

Eww...wtf? The PS2 version was the best by far. I hated Porsche Unleashed, what a disaster of a game. My list:

1) NFS: HP2 PS2
2) NFSU2
3) NFSU
4) NFS: HP
5) NFS: SE

I can't justify putting NFSHP1 any higher because HP2 did everything HP1 did and it did it a lot better. And I love the Underground series; but I wish EA would remake the stages from NFSHP1 for a next gen NFS game.

I liked the track design of the original Hot Pursuit much more than the second one. The generic music was also much better than the EA trax junk. Graphics and car selection were of course better in HP2, but in the end I didn't have as much fun buzzing those courses as I did in the original.

I have never really liked any of the TDs

The one that I liked was part 4....it's pretty decent. I remember I rented 5 and was insulted and never played any of the others.

Jeez, why not just throw in part 1 as well. :(

Yea thats what i was thinking, thing is part I is not even sold anymore for some strange reason. And if you running windows 98 se like me, it works fine, but you need a very good controller pad to play the game.

Here is another collection, no part 1

Ea lost some cool points from over the years anyway, and not adding part 1 they lost some more, not to mention that crazy deal with the NFL. :lol

Amen to that. Speed Devils was one of the most underrated games around. It was actually released on the PC a year or two before the Dreamcast under a different name...but I can't remember what it was.

Anyway, Speed Devils Online was one of the first console games I spent any real time with online. Me and Chris Johnston -- back when we were both at EGM -- went a few months where we played it for a couple hours every single night.

Good times.

Funny, I just checked a review of the game and he said basically the same thing as I did and his complaints were just the same as mine.

I'll never forget how disgusted I was when I first purchased Need For Speed 2 in 1997. I was especially bitter because I had just sold the first one back! I genuinely enjoyed the original Need For Speed because it took the racing seriously and tried to be as authentic as possible. But Need For Speed 2 (NFS2) totally compromises those principles. Instead of realistic tracks, you get fanciful wonderlands with castles and psychedelic tunnels. Not only are these courses annoyingly unrealistic, but most are butt-ugly to boot! The gratuitous scenery also takes its toll of the frame-rate, which only rates as "fair" in the single-player mode and "unacceptable" in the choppy split-screen mode.

Dead on. Guess you weren`t a framerate whore back then.

Speed busters, american highways and its one of the worst racers on the pc. The dreamcast version is a major major upgrade and it shows, but the pc version is dumb. The game is also very hard, you be lucky to hit first place, ugh. I had it, now its in the trash.

I am guessing you only played the PSX version, which was not created by Eden and was indeed horrible.
