Need to buy an HDTV Digital Converter Box/Tuner

I have an older Samsung HDTV in the bedroom that has no built-in HD tuner. (I found that out when I connected an HD antenna to it and still couldn't receive any channels.) So it turns out I need an actual HDTV tuner as well. I'm currently looking at this Mediasonic on Amazon.

Anyone have any experience with these things? Any advice?

EDIT: apparently that Mediasonic model does NOT support QAM. Any good ones that do?

Don't go out of your way spending thinking you are getting a better quality one. Remote, casing, internals don't seem to deviate too far from each other as if the same company is making them and just branding them differently. And none of them not seem built to last long.

That said, I recently bought that same one for my mothers TV. It works better than her previous which the government gave out for free a few years ago. It is better able to pick up stations and the features are good but. It is still going strong after a few months. It will get the job done.

Edit-just saw your edit.

I think I might have a converter box laying around if you're interested. I'll dig it up and check the model if you want.

I'd just get rid of the TV and get a new one.

You can get 32-inch LCDs for around $150-180 with built-in tuner.

It's not a total deal-breaker, since I'm exploring my options. Thanks for info!

I'd really appreciate that. =)

I'm keeping the TV because it has the older inputs I need for the retro consoles I use. I also don't want a larger TV for the bedroom.
