Why does the heavy handed symbolism in Elysium get shit but other Hollywood-style movies get a free pass? I really like it.Watch District 9 right now.
Watch Elysium if you want. I didn't think it was terrible but it certainly was forgettable with obvious symbolism crammed down your throat.
I actually thought Copley was pretty great in D9. I mean, his character was fookin ridiculous, but he did a great job with that.
I don't really want them to re-do Alien or Aliens, I would like Blomkamp to do his own mixture and thing. Doesn't need to feel like a re-boot, and I hope it isn't politicized as much as his other stuff. There has always been a lot of symbolism and commentary in the Alien franchise anyway, but his stuff can be heavyhanded.
I think Blomkamp has become a little bit infamous about it (specially because it was as subtle as a hammer in Elysium) and people now always look at that angle in his films. Why does the heavy handed symbolism in Elysium get shit but other Hollywood-style movies get a free pass? I really like it.
I can see him going all out with a scathing critique about Weyland Yutani and their obsession with weaponizing the xenomorphs.
His accent is even more ridiculous in Elysium. I don't get it.
Woooooo the ether in this post is making me dizzy.Because all previous Alien films had been written/directed by:
-First time rookies that had no clout to direct their vision and had jumbled, incoherent mess of a script to work with (Alien 3)
-An overrated writer and a French guy who makes (good) films completely opposite to the tone Alien films are supposed to have (Resurrection)
- A total fanboy moron who had no idea what he was doing (AvP)
-Even bigger fanboy morons who had to resort to copying the older films to hide their lack of talent, and who managed to fuck the ONE thing fans of the AvP concep had been clamoring over for years (predalien) (AvP: R)
- An over the hill, has-been director who, in contrast to Alien 3, was given WAY too much creative control and not reigned in by the studio, who teamed up with quite possibly the worst writer in Hollywood at the moment (Prometheus)
It's really unlikely that it could come out any worse than Alien 3 or Resurrection, I enjoyed D9 and Elysium so whatever, I'll go see it anyway.
It can easily be worse than Alien 3.
Why, because you like Alien 3 or because you're not a fan of Blomkamp? Alien 3 is not a good film either way.
because Blomkamp's movies are hamfisted social commentary with terrible terrible characters, or in case of Elysium no character at all. He relies on some gimmicks and pretty effects to make a movie and that's not going to be nearly enough for a Alien movie. He has shown no subtly or suspense in either of his movies, the opposite in fact. His concepts looks like terrible fan fiction on par with what this franchise has become in later entries, so yeah it can easily be worse than Alien 3.
It can easily be worse than Alien 3.
You don't get what...?
Why he has a S.African accent or why he uses it in film?
Also what exactly do you find so ridiculous about it..? Because it's not american..?
It really can't.
Have you watched any of the later films in the series? I would consider a new sequel that's of the same quality as Alien 3 to be an accomplishment and a sign the franchise is improving. And this is by no means a compliment to Alien 3.It really can't.

Elysium was alright, if a bit forgettable.
Prometheus was out and out shitty.

What is this logic? Get outta here with that. Really though, I agree. District 9 was pretty amazing so I'm willing to overlook his faults and see how he can improve with something he's passionate about like Alien.A director can improve and learn. Give him a chance.
I want a proper send off to Hicks and Newt. This needs to happen. They tried twice to give Ripley an ending. I mean I get the guy is passionate about rustic science-fiction motifs, and Alien/Aliens are obviously super inspirational, but... *sigh* I just don't want my heart to be broken again. At some point, I just feel like that kid screaming "Stooop! He's already deaaaad!"
