Why not just go hunting at your local gstops? I know mine had quite a few SE's in. It seems that store shipping precedent was by how busy they are. My local busy locale here in LBC had a pile of SE sticks.

Also where I got my TE, not to rub salt in the wounds.
Nah, I don't take it as salt rubbing. The only controllers my local GameStop got any of was the fight pads. They didn't get any SE sticks and they were told to inform people who reserved TE sticks (myself, being one of them) that we'd get our TE sticks by the first week of March. Going onto MadCatz site was pretty much my last ditch effort to have a stick sooner than two weeks after the game comes out. Once I get my TE stick, I may very well just sell the SE stick.

I guess I don't see the point on buying an $80 stick only to turn around and replace everything on it. The stick in the HRAP EX is very nice, and you may not even mind the Hori buttons.
Even when you replace the stick the se is 40 dollars cheaper.

I don't either, that's why I'll be returning mine if it has any problems. The ease of modding is great and all, but it doesn't excuse a defective product.

Actually I went to cancel my order until these issues were sorted, but it already shipped. Fingers crossed.

Actually, I do see a big deal. Buy the SE...

The JLF in the HRAP EX is soldered...so if you wanted to swap it out for a Seimitsu or another JLF, you'd need soldering skills (like Yes Boss).

With the SE, all you'd need to do is use screw drivers...

I haven't opened my SE to see if it has the PCB issues...

I hope it doesn't that sucks...just when we were all celebrating Madcatz's rise from the ashes (changing their reputation with this product line), the whole stick distribution and SE issues arise...

But I'm sure they'll take care of the users.

I think I'm going to try and return the FS SE tomorrow, I'm hoping they won't give me a hassle and let me get my cash back from Gamestop.

If that goes off without a hitch, I'll order a HRAP EX (w/Amazon Prime :D ).

True, but damn man. I can't imagine a nicer stick. It's the best part of the piece!

Okay verdict time...

I used the SFIV Fightpad and the Fightstick on my 360.

Fightpad 4/5

It's a great pad and a huge improvement over the standard 360 controller when it comes to playing fighting games. However, I did find a few issues.

1) The pad is a bit large when compared to the Saturn controller (I have one for the PC, PS2 and Saturn).

2) I don't like the layout of the buttons (I would've liked LB, RB on the face instead of RB, RT...something that mirrors the face of the Saturn pad).

3) The buttons feel a little cheap.

Having said that...the pad only falls short in comparison to the godly Sega Saturn controller. In my opinion, there is no better pad for playing 2D games or fighters. I like what MadCatz has made and hopefully, they improve on the design and release one without artwork in the next round of console releases.

Fightstick 4/5

I love the stick. I like the start and select button being on the front of the base. I like the headphone jack being on the back of the base (versus the retarded place Hori put it on their line of sticks). Every move came out seamlessly in HD Remix and Third Strike. Let me say that I've been struggling with Japanese/Sanwa sticks for awhile and for whatever reason this is the first time I've felt comfortable with it. The stick out of the box is a huge improvement over the Hori EX2. It's heavier and thus doesn't slide around as much on the floor. The parts seem to be a higher quality also.

Just remember to move the stick selector to digital pad or left pad when using the stick.

I like the artwork on the face (much more than the Tournament Edition...even though I know the intention was to mirror the Viewlix cabinet).

I didn't get a chance to test it enough to discover if it was having the input issues others reported.

I'm going to order the JLF and Sanwa buttons from Lizard Lick after I get back from my run.

This stick, imo, would be a better purchase than the Hori EX...even though the EX comes with a JLF. The problem is the bulky nature of the stick, placement of the headphone jack, the crappy stock Hori buttons and soldered JLF stick (no 5-pin connector...which means you have to know how to solder).

My hats off to Markman. The SE is a wonderful product. I can't wait to get my hands on a TE and test it out (ahem...someone promised to send me samples back in November...).

Spiderjericho, can you point me to which JLF I should get from Lizard Lick. I looked over at SRK and the ones recommended aren't listed on Lizard Lick.

Edit: Would Sanwa JLW-UM-8 Bat Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way work? or does it have to be Sanwa JLF-TP-8T Ball Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way Adjustable

Seimitsu LS-32-01 Ball Handle Joystick, 2, 4, & 8 Way

or

Sanwa JLF-TP-8T Ball Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way Adjustable (but you might want to post in the SRK thread and see if will fit correctly as they refer to the 8YT)

or

you can shop at akhibara.jp

He has the parts and is a reputable dealer. PM Per at SRK or post in his thread, he's very gracious and will promptly reply. Or just buy the parts... It's Sunday in Japan, so he'll be able to mail it out Sunday night in the U.S.

I've never owned an arcade stick, but this thread and the hype for SFIV has got me intrigued.

I just ordered a HRAP EX and some Sanwa buttons. Can't wait. :D

http://lizardlick.com/pages/sanwa_jlf_faq.shtml

The JLF-TP-8T seems good to order,I put a order in for 1.

To make the TP-8Y from our stock stick, remove the mounting plate and rotate the pcb. To rotate the pcb, you simply remove the bottom restrictor plate by gently pushing in on the 4 black "tabs" that hold it in, pull the pcb out, rotate it, and put it all back together.

Thanks. I'll just get a Seimitsu LS-32-01. I'm pretty sure that can use Sanwa Bat top too.

OK, so I got my first arcade stick today, Hori EX2. Yeah, it's nothing compared to all the TEs and customs everyone else has inhere, but I'm not a hardcore of a fighting game player.

One thing I'd like to change is the stick though, I prefer a bat top to the ball top. I don't plan on doing any soldering or changing to Cherry switches but if I order these parts, will I be OK doing the mod of the stick?

Sanwa LB-30-N Joystick Bat Top (White)
Sanwa Joystick Adapter
Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate

Arcade stick masters, is that all I need?

Not a master...but you can't change the gate since it's a Hori stick versus the JLF in the Hori EX or EX SE.

yes you can actually

you'll need to simply drill four holes and it will work with the Hori lever

Awesome! Any other parts that I should order for just changing the stick though?
I have all the tools (screwdrivers, pliers, etc)

Thanks. You guys aren't kidding about this stick thing being an addiction, I suddenly feel the urge to build a custom after checking out all the parts on Lizard Lick... :lol

HRAP EX shipped today from amazon. says it's scheduled for monday but with the holiday will i still get it? doesn't really matter since I won't have the game until tuesday though.

Yeah, UPS doesn't observe the "banker's" holidays.

Are you saying the stock SE Fightstick buttons are better than the HRAP:EX stock buttons?

Question -- to both the fightsticks and HRAPEX use square-gates? Fuck me if true. I hate square gates.

yup, both square. just get an octo gate at lizardlick--super simple to switch out.

Has anyone in Canada been able to find out pricing for SFIV SE stick in stores other than EB?

I have about $90 in credit there, but when I went there today and asked about pricing on the SFIV SE Stick for the PS3 they told me $99.99. How on earth does that make any sense with the exchange rate when the US price is $69.99? 10 bucks more I would understand, but 30? I'm just curious as to if this is only EB or if the standard Canadian price for the SE stick is a hundred bucks, at which point I'll just pass most likely.

eb games is the only store in Canada carrying it

is there any kind of proper technique to pulling off your SF2 moves properly with a square gate? I've only got about a 70% success rate at my hadokens and it's driving me nuts.. I'm wondering if I'm using the stick wrong (yes it's a sanwa stick with a square gate, VSHG to be specfic)

I ordered a that Sanwa stick from Lizardlick, along with a bubble top (that just screws on right?), and I am going to convert it into a JLF-TP-8Y I think. Didn't bother to get buttons yet because people are saying they are decent enough. Just don't want the stick to fuck up the PCB.

Anyone have an Amazon update? Is everyone still waiting for shipping notification or have some of you gotten your TEs already?

I did pick up the 360 TE I ordered at my B&M Gamestop, but the PS3 TE I ordered on Amazon hasn't even processed yet.

I'll say after using the 360 stick for a few days now, everyone is in for a treat when the stick is finally in their hands. :D The weight of the stick and it's huge footprint are really the sellers for me. IF you plant it on a table or chair while you play it ain't goin' NOwhere. Very nice...

Ok I'm about to purchase a JLF-TP-8Y off of akihabarashop.jp, but I just want to make sure I understand how their checkout works. When am I supposed to put my paypal? After I confirm my order? I don't want to confirm until I make sure I didn't mess anything up.

Do replacing the Hori buttons with arcade grade buttons in the HRAP EX require any soldering skills, or it just a basic toolshed items, like screwdrivers?

they have quick disconnects. no soldering for the buttons

Yea the bubble top should just screw on.

Hopefully the whole process of changing the Sanwa stock stick to a JLF-TP-8Y is as easy as it sounds, looks like we both will get to find out soon.I'm not even 100% sure we have to change it.

Well this is my first arcade stick ever so don't ask me haha. The description sounded easy, and we can just use the stock mounting plate, correct?

It goes away to Paypal after the last step of the checkout process.

Okay, after getting back from Gamestop and getting one TE out of the two I preordered (fucking lame), I got an SE for my PS3 at another spot to hold me over and went straight to work.

The TE stock is fucking beast whereas the SE stock is rather playable, but after having both Seimitsu and Sanwa parts... they just don't cut it for me. The SE stick is too loose for my taste and the buttons just feel a bit off. If anything, this is a great stick for someone who is brand new to these things and I'd say the build is comparable to the Wii Hori Fighting Stick which is pretty good for a stock stick.

Anyway off to the pics!

dsstick1.jpg

Before the operation, all virgined out.

dsstick2.jpg

Opened up for posterity. Love the way things are so organized in this thing, plus they're way easy to get into. The TE and even the SE are so much easier to open up than my HRAP3.

dsstick3.jpg

I had a spare "ultimate mod" JLF and popped it into the SE. The stock screws for the mounting plate were too small for my JLF so I had to use bigger ones.

dsstick4.jpg

Now in the TE, I remember watching a video saying you needed to file down the nut in order to shove it under the mounting plate if you were using Seimitsu buttons. You do not need to file the nut down. This is not the case as I was just able to easily shove the nut under the plate and thread the button in from there. So simple.

dsstick5.jpg

As my LS-56 does not fit with the stock or any of the mounting plates I had, I just popped on another GT-Y gate onto the stock JLF. I'll drill some holes into the plate tomorrow after work since I had no time to do so earlier.

dsstick6.jpg

Now I take the Sanwa buttons from the TE and pop them into the SE. The left is the Sanwa clone button and the right is the way nicer one. :D

dsstick7.jpg

Buttons are in and good to go!

And the final product... for now.

dsstick8.jpg

dsstick9.jpg

- TE stick for now is great. Love the colorway the red buttons and ball-top offer. It's still pending the LS-56 stick, but I somehow pushed the JLF far enough so that it feels completely 360 when pushing the stick all the way to the edges versus feeling the edges of the gate. Odd, but cool at the same time. Anyway, it works like a charm. I wanted to color the white parts of the TE stick red in order to unify the colorway more, but everything is so shiny on the stick. We'll see.

- SE stick is obviously much better. All Sanwa (minus the black buttons), all awesome. I'll eventually change the art as well.

So... I hope my PS3 TE comes in the next shipment. It's still way bullshit that they didn't have it at GS when I had preordered it in fucking November.

:lol My first arcade stick too...this should be interesting.I already decided to start taking out two of the buttons, since I hate 8 buttons and whoo that was fun getting the quick connects off, needed to use gloves, those suckers are on tight.Going to plug them up when my order gets here.

And yea we put back on the mounting plate that comes with the Sanwa after we unscrew it off and turn the pcb 90º.

Correct me if that sounds wrong someone :lol I feel like I'm talking out of my ass.

NameGenerated said:
You're using the plate that comes with the Lizardlick stick or the one already in the SE stick?
The one in the stick. The SE stock stick is a JLF wanna-be so the holes are exactly the same as a real JLF.

Personally, I don't like square gates either...since I grew up playing with Happ Bat Tops. When I went to NYC for Christmas break and went to CTF, SFIV was the only Street Fighter game to use Sanwa and square gate. It definitely takes some getting used to. I'm okay... I still need some more game time to acclimate...but I'm starting to warm up.

I don't like the octo...at first I was like...wow I can throw out supers and do shoryukens on both sides...but the throw was ugh throwing my game off...especially for charge characters.

If you only plan on playing at home or console tournaments, then go with what you're comfortable with.

I didn't say the buttons on the Fightstick were better. In both cases, they need to be replaced ASAP. I was referring to the Hori EX2 buttons.

And I've been reading the fightpad and fightstick threads at SRK (and the fightpad thread here)...crazy...

You can buy a Sanwa stick from Lizardlick and convert it to that. That's what I'm doing, they ship from Raleigh, NC I believe.

Edit: Beated..
