Hey Gaf, Where can I buy a JLF-TP-8Y from an Online store that ships within America.
Look up a couple posts, Lizardlick/akishop.
There's also Gremlin in the UK, they're expensive but have good service and ship extremely quickly

Quick ?: It's not too important since I already ordered 2 Octagonal gates, but what would be the difference between using an octagonal gate and just taking the inner ring out of a stock square gate on a JLF? Could doing that potentially damage the stick in any way? After I found out you could do so I been playing like that while waiting for my Oct gate to arrive from LL.

I was wondering this just the other day as well. It probably would wear out the switches a bit faster I guess, as the actuator is hitting them, not the gate which does something to protect them from wear and tear. Also, even tho it looks like a round gate with the inner ring removed, it feels sort of square because you hit the gate in the corners, but on the sides you hit the switch, so it's like a square with "pockets" on the corners. The gates give it a more natural shape.

You'll fuck up the microswitches if you play without a gate. Aside from that, the throw is going to be so huge it'll mess up your execution anyhow.

p.s. square gates win

Actually it would probably damage the PCB as well. Each time you hit a direction you'd be gradually wearing away at the solder point.

most likely :P

I remember some guy on SRK sanded down his octagonal gate till it was circular. IIRC after a couple of months he needed to replace the microswitches/pcb :/

IMO play with the octagonal till you start getting a feel for the stick. After a while you'll realise you're not even pushing the stick all the way to where the gate is anyway. At that point switch to a square-gate and voila, easy dragon punches and you wont flip out when you actually sit down at a cab :P

So I got my SE stick today, girlfriend got it as a v-day present. I've never really played with a stick before, so I'm trying to learn. I had trouble doing like, shoryukens, fireballs and supers in 3s...pretty bad. Hopefully I'll get to normal quickly with practice. I didn't have much problem in soul calibur on 360 though, adapted very quickly.

I keep reading about how bad the buttons and stick is on the thing, and I just hope it doesn't hurt my learning process. If the stick isn't perfect then I'm not able to tell when it's me fucking up or the stick. I'll find out in a couple days.

Speaking of, the ball on top of my stick doesn't stay screwed in. It takes almost zero force to start unscrewing it, so I find myself having to screw it back in between every round. Anybody else experience this?

Oh my, took a look at the SRK thread to see if perhaps anybody had a clue about Amazon's shipout timeline and, yikes, that is one scary place :-(

I love checking that place out when it comes to delays, etc. It's freak out central over there.

They're not bad at all. They're just not the best. It's a really good beginner's stick by all means. Considering you're just starting, kick the "bad parts" idea out of your mind when using it and focus on your technique on the stick.

As for the ball top, the best way to remedy that is to open it up and take a flathead to the bottom of the stick itself to hold it in place while you screw it on tightly.

I have to say...Markman is handling all of the controversy on SRK like a professional. That forum is absolutely livid with the quality issues with the SE Fightstick and Fightpad.

I can't believe Hori had the nerve to solder the joystick in the HRAP EX SE... What about us soldering challenged? (What if we don't want to ground our fingertips and fuse with the PCB):lol

After using the Fightpad and messing around with my Saturn pad, I have to say I prefer to use a stick. The buttons are preferable. Plus your thumb doesn't have to get Nintendoitis if you're like me and use the meaty portion.

Stay away from the octo...she'll tease you with trying to mirror the Happ feel but oh she's not even close...and charge characters won't quite play the same.

Seriously, SRK adopts some of the dumbest minds I've ever witnessed. I posted there regularly during the time I was getting my finkle stick made, after all was said and through, I left and never looked back.

Keep your head up man, every one of us happy with our sticks/pads have you to thank. Don't let some sour apples ruin the whole barrel!

So I just bought myself a Hori in anticipation of Street Fighter 4 (limited edition version on pre order, arriving same day air to my place Tuesday!) and I haven't played a fighter with a stick since I was in grade school in the 90's.

Goddamn I suck at arcade sticks. I went 2-27 on SF2HD with the Hori. :lol

It's all good though, the Hori is very high quality and lives up to the hype I read on internet fighting game topics.

Yeah, Mark don't stress over it. Madcatz and your heart were in the right place. It's just a lesson to learn. Overall, the reception has been pretty positive.

You've been a positive emissary for the company since last fall and have helped to build up anticipation and answer user's questions.

Honestly, I understand some of their frustration but the item does have a warranty and can be replaced with an exchange back at the retail store.

I don't know why they're not livid over the soldering job Hori has done with its latest batch of HRAPs. GAH!! HRAP EX, HRAP3 SFIV and HRAP EX SE.

Roh-oh...you didn't buy the HRAP3 or EX2 did you? Noooooooooooo!! Just kidding. Just give it some time. It takes some getting used to (I'm still getting used to it). Just keep practicing.

It's the Hori Fighting Stick 3 for PS3. My only complaint is that it doesn't operate with my pS1/PS2 games so I can't use it on any of my KoF, MvsC or GGXX titles. The only games I have to practice with are VF5 and SF2HD.

Just watch the Death Smiles stick be soldered! If that is the case then it will be my last HRAP till they either change form factor or make it more convenient for folks.

I did get to play around with the TE last night a bit and it feels shockingly good. It is absolutely huge in the lap and nice and weighty. To me, if feels much bigger than the HRAPs even though it is much the same size.

I'm pretty certain that a firmware update makes the HFS3 compatible with PS2 games. I'd test myself, but I don't want to wake the missus. Update yo' shit and give it a shot.

Also, apologies if this has been answered before, but does Madcatz plan on making more Tournament Edition sticks? Not just to fulfill standing preorders, but for those idiots that never got around to it?

I took one look at eBay and promptly threw up.

If anyone's in the NYC area, I saw the HRAP EX and HRAP 3 in several shops in Chinatown.

The prices were comparable to Amazon's so I supposed you can take a trip down there and save on shipping.

All of Hori's game-branded HRAP sticks have the buttons soldered to the PCB, don't be surprised if the Deathsmiles one is no different.

That is true but they did mix it up for the Oto stick. I've no problem changing the stick if it is soldered, I just don't wanna be hassled with ripping buttons out of the PCB and resoldering...that is a lot of work.

Btw, here is the inside of the Oto stick:

I'd like to know this too. I couldn't pre order one because money is tight and I really thought I wouldn't be able to afford one. Now I can and they're nowhere to be found. I'd even take the SE stick if I could find it, but no luck so far.

Is the SE fightstick problem with effecting everyone, or just some? Also is the sticking joystick fixable or do you need to buy a new one?

Yes Boss, what happened to Juhi?!

Also, I posted this yesterday and dementia said it should work, but is there anyone knows that if this is definitely possible? I wanna make sure it'll work 100% before I order:

OK, so I got my first arcade stick today, Hori EX2. Yeah, it's nothing compared to all the TEs, HRAPs and customs everyone else has in here, but I'm not a hardcore of a fighting game player.

One thing I'd like to change is the stick though, I prefer a bat top to the ball top. I don't plan on doing any soldering or changing to Cherry switches but if I order these parts, will I be OK doing the mod of the stick?

Sanwa LB-30-N Joystick Bat Top (White)
Sanwa Joystick Adapter
Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate

Arcade stick masters, is that all I need?

Anybody know?

I see Yes Boss!, but remember the Otomedius stick is not officially within the Real Arcade Pro line. IIRC it's called a Hyper Stick PRO, which explains the non-standard button layout and the Sanwa buttons in lieu of Hori clone ones like a typical non SA/SE HRAP.

Does the Otomedius stick really come standard with an octagonal gate?

I'm a bit of a beginner with fighting sticks. Is the $80 SF4 Mad Catz stick any better than the Hori EX2? I've got SSF2THDR and VF4 and I'll probably pick up SF4 at some point. I'm considering the Mad Catz SF4 pad as well, I may get one pad and one stick.

It seems like everyone is talking about the more expensive sticks, anyone have any experience with these lesser models?

Juhi became Priyanka but now I've fallen for Asin from the southern country, specifically her role in Vel:

Yeah, octagonal is stock. It is a freaking weird stick all around. I'm aiming to put Seimitsu parts in my Death Smiles, so whatever is in there it is coming out to be replaced.

Fighting Stick 3 works just fine with PS2 games played on the PS3. Dunno about actually connecting it to a PS2 though.

Standard Edition Mad Catz fight stick is the best beginner's stick. Its definitely better than the stock Fighting Stick 3 or EX2, and not bad build quality at all. Though there is the chance you might get one thats a little messed up, as you can see from earlier posts.

I've got a custom built HAPP Xbox 360 joystick w/ some SF IV artwork on it atm but I've always thought it would be cool if I could find the original SF II CP art or the art that Capcom used for all of their later arcade games (the shit that looked like steel I guess?). Does anyone know where I can find a high rez version of either to put in my arcade stick?

I'm tempted to buy one just for fun and to mod but I'm waiting for them to release it unbranded and perhaps in a darker color.

I also ordered the JLF-TP-8T from LizardLick and this will also be the first time I mod a stick (I have the SFIV SE). My stock stick has the washer issue as it has gotten stuck in a position when it was supposed to be neutral. I know that washer is destroying the stick so it's just a matter of time.

Hoping this goes smoothly!

Any updates on how amazons orders are going to go for the TE? I'm really hoping I dont get fucked (placed my order back in December.)

TBH I think they'll be getting the second shipment if they still have yet to send them out.

I see a lot of people here complaining about Hori soldering the parts in their new sticks. It does suck, yes, but come on, $10 at a Radio Shack will net you a decent soldering iron and desoldering bulb, and you're all set to tackle whatever soldered parts Hori throws at you. And really, while I am annoyed with the soldered stick, I don't intend to ever replace the stick or buttons on my incoming EX-SE, except in case of dying parts, so no big deal.

That reminds me, my stick arrives Tuesday. Yay!

Mine too, but I'm in school all day Tuesday in Los Angeles so I'll be checking out your photos first! Then it is to Gamestop at 7pm for SFIV and a night of fun!

Apologies since I know this has probably been covered in this thread, but I haven't been able to find it.

How do I open my SE stick? I just want to screw the ball top on tightly by holding the stick still. I'm technically inclined, but before I go poking around I want to make sure I'm not gonna break anything. Do I unscrew it, or can you pop off the top somehow? Thanks~

(btw I love this thing.)

edit: well, I shouldn't have been worried at all. It was stupid easy. Thanks again

I don't have mine yet, but I believe you open the SE stick from the bottom.

I put in my order for a standard fightstick Friday afternoon when I heard MadCatz was taking orders via their online store. I put overnight shipping on that sumbitch so I'm hoping I've got it by Wednesday... I'm also hoping that if there was some sort of cut-off, I made it; the "add to cart" buttons disappeared from both fightsticks sometime Friday night/Saturday morning.

Sorry to hear that your stick is fubar. How long did it take to notice that?

When swapping out the stick, you swap out the PCB for the one that you get from Lizardlick right? If my PCB got messed up by the washer issue then it would matter because the one I ordered comes with a new one? Or do you use the same one that comes with the stick.

Yes, if I've understood the process correctly, the only stock parts you'll use for the stick are the mounting plate and the wire.

I'm so bad with this thing on the 2p side. My shoryuken success ratio is like 1 out of 20 from the right. I don't get it. My girlfriend is pissed off at the clicking too, but she'll get over it.
