If you stick is for the 360, then there is hardly any difficulty. Order the ChimpSMD and it's as simple as putting wires into holes.
If you have a PS3 stick, things can be a bit more tricky.
I have to tell my friend about the ChimpSMD. Sounds awesomely user-friendly.

Quick question, I want to buy SSFIV at Amazon. What arcade stick should I buy for the PS3. I already have the PS3 Fighting Stick 3 by Hori. Should I get the SSFIV Round 2 Arcade FightStick or Real Arcade Pro V3 SA. Thanks.

Either stick is good enough. Get whichever is cheaper or you like aesthetically.

Hori V3-SA is a bit larger but lighter than the R2, and the cable length is about 3 ft shorter than the R2. Hori also decided to incorporate arcade-accurate start button positioning, so if you're a masher, you might hit it accidentally.

The HRAP V3-SA is officially licensed by Sony, while the Madcatz R2 is not (the only Madcatz sticks officially licensed by Sony are the new Chun Li ones and the Japanese TESes). I only mention this because you never know when Sony will publish a new firmware that breaks compatibility with unlicensed controllers :lol

R.I.P. my Hais PS2 converter :(

I ordered a Round 2 TE from the Gameshark store on Monday with Paypal. I got a receipt in my email, but I haven't gotten any confirmation/shipping email yet. Am I supposed to get one?

(Crossposted from SRK)

My latest mod, "Klonoa MCMXCVII". This was supposed to be a quick lark between major projects, but somehow morphed into a big one.

Before (Sammy SVC Chaos Version "C"):

After:

Klonoa02.jpg

Klonoa03.jpg

Klonoa04.jpg

The concept for this stick was "official". Basically, I wanted the Klonoa-branded arcade stick Namco inexplicably released in some alternate 1997. Hence, the control panel design hews closely to the original Japanese packaging.

Stock parts replaced with a Sanwa JLF-TM-8T-SK, Crown CWB203Cs, and two Seimitsu PS-14-Ds for R1 and R2, routed through the back. (The "R1" and "R2" button labels are dry transfers, by the way.)

Shout-outs to many SRKers for making it possible: meus for trading me the CVS stick, Lizard Lick, Akihabara Shop, and eTokki for parts, Nether for cutting the "NAMCO" and Klonoa emblem decals, Ouroboros for the CP plexi, butteroj for the yellow pearl balltop, RosserRooster for the blue 7-11 straw, VMS for letting me bounce ideas back and forth, and GameOnGrafix.com for the vinyl art print.

Miscellaneous mod pics for those so inclined:

The stock art is super flimsy and awful.
Stock internals.
Post-mod internals (not pretty, but it works!).
The stock button assembly is extremely weird.
Crown buttons in place. I had to file down the plastic so the nuts would fit. There isn't enough clearance for spacers.
JLF-TM-8T-SK microswitches are so cool.

(Incidentally, are Crown buttons known for being mushy and frequently sticking, or did I get a bad batch?)

My current collection. The HSS-0130 is an on going project, purchased from another user on the SRK forums. Need to create project boxes for both players.

The Hori came in a few days ago and I'm in love with it. It's extremely light and easy to carry around.

Aokage are you using a sanwa stick? You can get the shaft height to the "correct" height for small sticks if you get hold of low-cut sanwa shafts. If your interested let me know, I might get some done if there is enough interest.

Yup, it's a JLF-TM-8T-SK. I've actually gotten used to the super-long shaft and kind of like it, but I would totally be down for a shortened custom shaft! My guess is a lot of people on SRK would too.

that namco stick is so nice, i saw it on srk and was like :O

and unless i'm proven wrong, I am convinced I have the sexiest SE on the planet.

Thinking about finally getting an arcade stick for my 360 since I'm prolly gonna buy MvC3 for it (thanks Amazon for that credit :D ). Maybe Garou and a few others...

Anyway, was wondering if this mods well (would basically swap out buttons and stick for Sanwa)

It's cheap and I actually love the smaller form factor sticks. HRAPs too big for my tastes as are TE sticks.

I like the shape of the EX2 as well, but you have to do a bit more than simply swapping out the buttons of you want to mod it.

http://pineconeattack.com/2008/12/0...with-authentic-arcade-parts-xbox-360-version/

I think sanwa microswitches fit in the stock HORI buttons though, so you probably won't have to dremel the holes (unless you want to change the colours). You will have to desolder them from the PCB though.

That being said I hear that EX2 stock > Madcatz SE stockin terms of reliability so you might not even have to switch out stuff.

Thanks man!

My SE has stopped working, all four quadrants are lit and it isn't being recognised in Windows or on the 360.

Anyone know what could be wrong? it hasn't been used more than half a dozen times or knocked around.

Possibly a dead PCB. Same thing happened to me.

make sure the breakaway cable is secure and if that doesn't work contact Madcatz

How did you get the SFII CE button layout art for the TE stick? Please post it if it is available digitally.

Hello guys, I have a dilemma here. I just double-dipped on SSF4 and I neeed another stick to use for the PS3. I can either get the TE-S or the Real Arcade Pro V3 SA. Which one do you guys think is better? I already have a TE for the 360, so I know how the TE-S will be like, but I don't for the Hori stick. Any help would be appreciated.

I own a couple of TE sticks and a VX-SA, and I'd say you can't go wrong with either.

Both sticks use the same quality arcade parts, but be aware the VX is lighter, has a shorter cable and has its start button on the face of the panel with the action buttons.

Hmm, interesting... I really don't know. I guess I'm going to close my eyes and click whatever comes up lol.

Ok I bought a Seimitsu stick for my TE.. but realized it's not the LS-32-01, its the LS-32!! i.e. the connector is different.

Am I screwed? or is there some connector adapter thing I can get?

If I AM screwed, what kind of stick can I use this in? or is it meant for arcade cabs?

First of all you have to buy a SS mounting plate: http://www.lizardlick.com/Seimitsu-SS-Mounting-Plate_p_513.html

Second of all you can make your own connector, just gotta know a little about circuitry and soldering. Simply put the LS-32-01 is the same thing, only the microswitches are on the PCB instead of exposed for easier installation. What you want to do is connect one terminal of each of the four microswitches together (and then to ground), and then connect the other terminal of each microswitch to each direction on the PCB.

I put a LS-32 in my SE so i can guide you on that if you want.

drew a diagram of how you are supposed to wire it up (viewpoint is you looking inside the stick from the bottom):

kaJ9o.jpg

All the ground terminals (brown) are connected. Like _dementia said you can use the existing harness, you just gotta know which way is which. Easy way to test is plug in the stick with the back open and the harness wires plugged in and stripped, touch the two end wires together. If it registers the right direction (->) on the joystick, you know you have the correct end (and the end wire is ground). If nothing happens flip the cord around.

ok thanks - I'm no soldering expert and don't own a soldering iron but I guess I could try it... there's 5 wires in the the connector, how do those relate to the 8 prongs on the LS-32?

Or else if someone is interested in buying the LS-32 off of me, I think that'd be easier for me. So PM if interested.

i showed how the prongs work in the diagram in the bottom of the last page. Basically 4 prongs on the joystick are wired together (ground), and the other 4 are for each corresponding direction (right, left,up,down)

kinda surprised nobody has made a wire for the standard ls-32 > Madcatz SE/TE though...its actually really easy to do (you just need some quick disconnects and a diagram, and it would be completely solderless to install)

Zertez said:
Outside of Lizardlick, is there another online store in the US to pick up a ChimpSMD? It has been sold out for some time.
doubt it.

Thanks again Threi, the diagram really helps - I wonder how did you exactly wire everything together though, and what connector parts did you use? Any chance you have a photo of what you did?

Luckily for me I had quick disconnects lying around (from my sanwa JLW in my capcom stick) so i could just slide those on the terminals. I also soldered the connector harness from the stock madcatz stick onto the other end (I made my own mini-pcb). Not really necessary but makes things a bit neater.

(pay no attention to the colour coding, it's not the same as in the diagram...also the left and right i wrote on the stick is reversed)

Without soldering though you pretty much have to use quick disconnects (or something equivalent), and just strip/wrap/tape up the wires.

Great! This looks doable for sure - I'll just have to look for the 5-prong connector thing (hopefully I can find it a hardware store).

I got the seimitsu for shmups, and thought LS-32 and LS-32-01 were the same thing as a lot of talk on various boards seemed to refer to either/or as a good option.. oops.

Thanks again for helping out a stick mod newb :D
