I sort of have my heart set on a HRAP3, but if anyone has any recommendations outside of those two, please feel free to offer suggestions.

It's just a personal preference thing but you might want to give a HRAP-SE a try. Just like the SA but with Seimitsu parts instead of Sanwa. The joystick has a smaller throw and tighter springs and the buttons have a little more of a "click" versus the Sanwa. I really like 'em better and I have them in my custom stick. If you have a friend or someone who has a Seimitsu stick it might be worth borrowing or playing around with it a little bit to see if you like it better than the Sanwas which are in the TE or HRAP3.

I was looking at the V3 SA, but wasn't sure what the big difference was. Amazon has plenty.

Interesting, if you recommend the V3 SA, I might go for that instead.
Bear in mind that I've never handled one myself. I just eyeballed it and made some comparisons, but it does seem like Hori's take on the TE.

Are there such a thing as Cherry branded parts?
Maybe? I'm sure they make some microswitches you could swap into joysticks or Western style buttons, but the switches in Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons probably aren't available from them because they're a fairly unique form factor.

Saw some reviews online, and watched some video with it. That really sold me. Just ordered a V3 SA from Amazon. Should arrive tomorrow. :D

Yeah, I pulled apart this custom SNES stick I got and the only branding I could find on the parts were "Cherry". I'll take some pics of the inside and post 'em.

Right now I'm looking at picking up the Madcatz SFIV TE stick, which Amazon seems to have decent stock of. I played with it a bit at my buddy's place, and really liked the feel. I sort of have my heart set on a HRAP3,

It may be worth mentioning that the SFIV TE stick, HRAP3 and HRAP V3 SA all use the same Sanwa JLF joystick lever. You'll find differences in the casing and button layouts, but if you liked the feel of the lever in particular, don't worry...you'll get that feel across the board. Enjoy your new V3 SA.

I don't believe that Cherry actually makes parts for joysticks other than microswitches.

Yes, this method works on the PS3, and there's no visible lag.
bought but i guess i'll have some issue with the mayflash itself...
apparently there's no seller in italy that carries those.. anybody in uk willing to help? buying from hk would take like 2 months <_> (i love italy customs)

Okay so I'm might be able to pick out a stick sometime this year. I'm thinking the PS3 MadCatz TE is the best choice since that's what I play most of my fighting games on, but at some point down the line I might mod the stick to play on other platforms.

Since these sticks are so expensive it would be nice if I just had one that worked for:
PS3
Wii
Gamecube
Dreamcast
SNES
NES
PC
(possibly) 360

I've been out of the loop for a while, but the easiest way would probably start with a 360 TE stick and install a Multi-Chtulhu PCB for support with PS3 as well as older systems.

The Dreamcast and 360 would need to be "piggybacked" from original controller PCBs, but a MultiCthulhu can do almost all of that in one package, provided you make the cables for each system.

The PS3 version of the stick says "Coming Soon" at the MadCatz website. I can't find them in stock at Amazon. Where can I get them?
Wait til EVO and they are supposed to come back in stock I believe.

Speaking of Evo. I'll be headed down to Vegas this weekend. Is there a booth or something where you can buy Madcatz sticks? And anyone there who can dual mod as well? It'll be my first time spectating a fighting game tourney. I'm hyped.

Hmm this has been a dream of mine actually! I have a Hori Fighting Stick 3 and a MadCatz TE fightstick for PS3, and I always thought it would be amazing if they worked for my dreamcast.

Would this be something someone without soldering skills could do?

There's going to be a MadCatz custom shop: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=7599790&id=152792137195

And as far as modding: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/get-your-stick-modded-at-evo-by-team-tech-talk.140985/

The HRAP V3 SA might also be worth your consideration. It uses all Sanwa parts, but it's got a different button layout than the HRAP 3, and its form factor is more akin to the TE, making it a bit of a hybrid. One potential upside is that they just came out in the last month, so they should be pretty easy to find new. The MSRP is a very reasonable $130 to boot.

I always wanted to get into fighting games, but not with a D-pad or analog stick. Maybe these will go on sale later this year and I can grab one and either SSFIVAE or UMVC3. I just wish they had training modes that really taught you the game like Virtua Fighter 4 had.

You don't see too many products on Amazon with 96% 5 star reviews, and 4% 4 star reviews.

Hey guys. So I bought the SSFIV TE stick when the game first launched but have used it maybe 3 times. Finally decided to leave it out in the living room instead of dragging my home made stick around all the time so I took it out of the box again for play #4 and more.

But the stick isn't working. The buttons are working just fine, but the stick is completely dead. I opened it up and the connections look good but nothing.

What could the problem be? I kept it in it's box the entire time so I'm not sure what gives.

is this set to "DP"? I don't think RS will work in most games or menus.

Got my V3 SA today, and took it for a spin in a few PS3 and PC games (including Jamestown!)

The stick is fantastic. I didn't expect to actually play MvC3 BETTER with a stick (since I've played with a pad for years), but I'm actually pulling off DHCs and the like effortlessly. It's really quite awesome.

Hey guys!

Long time stick user, but first time posting here.

Was wondering if anyone here could recommend a board I could throw into a TE that would make it a 3-in-1. What are my best options for modding a stick in this fashion?

Thanks dudes!

My SE fightstick finally kicked the bucket. Well the Sanwa joystick stopped responding, right gate first then all the other. Anyone have any idea of what could have happened, or if it's fixable? If not does anybody know where you can still get Fightsticks in the UK?

Curse you Markman!

My first guess would be a wiring problem. Either way, there's no need to buy a whole new stick if a part's gone bad -- that's the beauty of Madcatz's sticks, SE included.

I would try opening up the Fightstick, checking to see if any of the wires to the lever's microswitches have come loose, or if the switches have come out of alignment. And if you're still having problems, I'm pretty sure someone can suggest a UK/Euroland place to buy an appropriate Sanwa replacement lever & switches, which will be a drop-in replacement for the SE's stock parts.

If it is the switches in the stick then it is definitely repairable, get a new JLF and move on.
If it is the PCB, game over man. Although you could get a new PCB and go from there.

So what are my options getting a PS3 MadCatz TE working on dreamcast without soldering? Anything?

Zero. If you had a 360 TE, then all you'd need was the TE_Kitty an RJ45 and a custom string to connect to the console.

Damnit, my stick (TE MVC2) is breaking. It's having problems registering me pressing down, especially down-right.

It was completely not registering down at all, but I at least got it to this functional state by jerking the stick all around.

Anyone have a link to a guide to fix something like this? Hopefully I don't need to buy a new stick :/

Any idea when those Sanwa clear buttons are going up for sale? Really want to spice up my Chun li TE with them and get rid of these god awful xbox color buttons.

If that's the only problem you're experiencing, it might just be one of the micro switches on the actual JLF lever, as they can wear out or get damaged. Any idea if it's still under warranty?

Nah warranty long over.

On the plus side, it seems to be working perfectly normal today wtf! (not that i'm complaining)

While the TE has the superior stick, I like the space in between the buttons and the stick in HRAP3, it just feels more comfortable for me, that's why it's my favorite stick :)

Apparently it's pretty easy to mod as well, but I'm not going to get into that yet.

I'm just dropping in here, but how is the TE superior? What's the HRAP3 like in comparison? Parts? Responsiveness?

If I can't find an SSFIV PS3 TE, should I settle for the SFIV ones?

Same arcade-grade parts for buttons + joystick lever so they all essentially play the same. All have turbo functionality. Case size/weight differs as well, mostly a personal preference thing.

HRAP V3 SA: cord storage compartment
TE: start/select buttons in a better place (away from face buttons), a lock switch to avoid accidentally pausing, and a cord storage compartment
HRAP3: doesn't have the above bells and whistles

SSF4 and SF4 TEs have same parts, just slightly different case and the lock switch on the Super sticks lock start/sel as well as guide/home instead of just guide/home on the SF4 sticks. You'll be fine getting a SF4 TE if it's your only option.

Ok I really need a new stick and I am in no mood to mod again. I would love to buy a Madcatz TE stick but here in germany you can only get them at the Gamshark website and with shipping that is almost 160€. Sorry that is just way too much.

I have been eying the Qanba Q2 at Play-Asia. Does anyone have any experience with this stick. Any other recommendation, especially where to buy one would be welcome.

My first suspicion would be that the 5-pin connector plug going into the Sanwa JLF lever has come loose. I could be wrong, but if that is indeed the problem, it's an easy fix. =)

I recommend getting a Hori Real Arcade Pro V3-SA in your situation

Very nice stick. Same arcade-spec parts as a Madcatz TE, but the cable is a bit shorter.

Hope everyone who attended EVO managed to get one of these. I think Madcatz really did an amazing job with the artwork. Were these made by Art Hong/Tek Innovations?

If I'm looking to get into fighting games for the first time, well, besides button mashing, as somewhat of a passing fancy (not much commitment) what's a decent stick for me to get that's not going to cost me a lot of money?

I figure I can always upgrade if I somehow find my calling or just really fall in love with the genre, but I could totally waste money if I rarely use it.

I play on PS3 if that makes any difference.

I bought one thinking I could easily put it on my SF4 TE, but this is not the case. :(

Still like it, though. Memories.

I'm in the same boat and same system. Used to play a ton of SF2 on snes and then SFA on saturn. Just quit WoW and now i've got a lot of gaming free time, was thinking of a stick and MvC3. Oh, EVO was awesome to watch.

I would say a Madcatz Fightstick Standard edition. You can find them for around or under $60. If you decide to get serious they are easily upgradable to arcade quality parts. Basically just disconnect and swap out the buttons and stick for sanwa or seimitsu parts. The upgrade is like 40 dollars worth of parts.

If you don't mind the horrible artwork you can get a brawlstick which is basically the same as the SE just with better feeling madcatz buttons. But again very easy to swap out to arcade level parts.

For casual players and even those on a budget the built in parts are fine.
