I was just about to start talking mess about Paradise Arcade Shop, and wouldn't you know the mailman dropped the box off. Took one week to get to me, but they did take two weeks to ship out my order though. YMMV.

This LS-40 is super clicky. Haven't mounted it a case yet, but I like the feel so far. Doesn't seem stiffer than a LS-32 but the engage is super quick.

Maybe there was a holiday or some "good" reason for the delay? My stuff was ordered on Sunday, shipped to me here in Texas on Monday and arrived on Wednesday.

I'm wondering if the stiffness difference is more noticeable for me because I'm using an aluminum bat top (oh my god, that innuendo... [and THAT innuendo]) or maybe I had just used my LS-32 that much.

USE THAT S PLATE FROM YOUR LS-32!

Picked up three Qanba Q3s last week (Xbox 360) and I'm very happy with the wood case. The felt bottom does make a big difference when you have it placed in your lap. Compared to the two Madcatz TES (PS3) sticks I have, I'm liking the Q3 more.

It's probably all in my head but the actual stick feels much better even though both models are using the same part. The only thing I don't like about the Q3 is the red balltop so I'll replace it with a white one soon.

I'm planning on mounting it in a Qanba Q3 case, which usually houses a JLF with a straight plate, like so:

Will I still need an S plate?

Re: innuendo, we're grown men talking about "joy" "sticks" on the internet. All self respect should be checked at the door. :P

People have been having a lot of trouble with them lately, check SRKs LL thread. I used 'em twice, and both packages arrived in 3-4 days.

Ugh, this is really discouraging. I ordered from them expecting a short delay because lead times for Sanwa parts were listed between 5 and 10 days for availability. However, a lot of members in there are posting 45 days to 2 months in waiting time, without having received their orders and in some cases without receiving any correspondence. I may just cancel my order and place one at Focusattack.com

The TE mounts a JLF with a straight plate as well, but the LS32 and LS40 both need the S plate that's usually on the LS-32-01 because of the shaft being short (and thus needing a "flush" mount that direct mounting or the S-plate provides). I tried my 40 with the straight plate when installing and the mounting height was too short, the same problems the 32 has.

Crap. Thanks for the tip.

Only tangentially related to this thread but I finally finished up my supergun. The overall process was:

Mod ps3 TE with just a drop in MC Cthulhu (didn't need 360 compat on this stick)
Re-mod 360 TE from TEasy Strike to TE Kitty
Solder 2x Toodles converter kits for ps2 -> custom pinout
Wire up JAMMA+kick harness to aforementioned custom pinout

It was a long journey especially with no progress over the last 3 weeks while Toodles was working out some converter issues. He helped me a lot overall though and I couldn't speak more highly of his products.

In any case, here's a picture of the end product. All that's left now is to find a good enclosure for the guts.

Awesome work! You got to the finish line, which is more than I can say. I got the JAMMA harness, PSU, and PCB's, but stopped short of the video encoder stage. I don't even know if I'll ever finish it since the only game I'd want to use it for is SF Alpha, and the suicide battery probably died ages ago. I'd have to bootleg/phoenix it, and that feels icky.

Ahh yeah I know what you mean. For now I have ST, VSav, and Alpha 2 and they are the only CPS2 games I plan on getting. The ST battery was changed some time this year, around June, and the others I have no idea but I know they work. I have 1 battery I can swap right now but I think I might just keystone mod all 3. That or find someone in the area who can mod them for me, I don't know if I can do that within the amount of time before it dies.

Out of curiosity, what was the video encoder you used? I was checking out the JROK before the whole project went belly up.

I've got a couple questions for you guys.

1. Is there any way to dual mod a Ps3 TE Stick?
2. If not, what's the best <200 dual modded stick? I've gotten a recommendation for Eightarc but I'd like to see what else is out there.

Damnit...

I have my Mayflash stick waiting to be modded, I received my LS-32 from Gremlin Solutions a while ago, and all I need are my meshtop and 8 buttons I've ordered from LizardLick. Their pre-order status page says that their Seimitsu and Sanwa parts take 5-10 business days to arrive on their end, yet after 21 days (i.e. 15 business days) my parts STILL are marked as "pre-ordered" and obviously haven't shipped :(

They've also been very slow replying to my emails - I asked them 4 days ago what the status is with my order and still no reply. This is my first time using LizardLick and will definitely be the last - Gremlin Solutions might be more expensive, but at least they send their stuff out in a timely manner.

The thing is that I was very excited about making my stick, but this long wait (and frustration) has kinda killed my enthusiasm :/

1. Unfortunately, there are no easy, solder-free methods like getting a Kitty board for a 360 TE.
2. The Qanba Q4RAF is 360/PS3 out of the box and also quite nice. Similar in design to the eightarc, and a bit less expensive.

I realise i am now on my way to owning 4 arcade sticks. Two ex2s that are broken and or fucked up as well as a Tekken stick adn a new Madcatz SE coming today hopefully.

What're everyone's thoughts on Hori's Xbox360 Fighting Stick VX? Seems like a pretty reasonable price, but I'm wondering if there's any large shortcomings.

That stick and the PS3 V3 don't get as much love because they're not easily moddable for art or controls. They have basic Hori buttons, which are soldered to a daughterboard and a Hori joystick.
You can usually find a lightly used TE or HRAP for just a little bit more. Or for the same price, you can get a Brawlstick and make control modding much easier.

That said, the V3 made a perfect basis for my home practice stick after I rewired it to control a SIXAXIS PCB, JLF, and Seimitsu pusbuttons. The button holes are standard 30mm and it can fairly easily fit a JLF.

Guys, I have a friend ordering the hori VLX bag for me and he needs to know if it will get to him before friday this week. Does anyone know what Hori's shipping times are like.

I got a Qanba Q3 DIY shell from Canadian Joysticks. Filled it with a Seimitsu LS-40 (with a Sanwa balltop) and Sanwa OBSF-30's. The biggest gripe I have about this case is that the god damned plexi is so fucking thick (6/32" or ~4.7mm), I couldn't fit my Seimitsu PS-15's through it, even with the notches in the metal plate underneath. Same problem with the Sanwa hole plugs. I suppose now I HAVE to buy Qanba plugs. The good news for us Seimitsu stick fans is that the metal plate underneath the plexi has Seimitsu mounting holes drilled into it, so you can forgo a mounting plate, which gives you a joystick height of exactly 1" (~25 mm), or you can use an S ... plate for that additional depth (mounted sideways). I really like the look and feel of this case though. Initially I was put off my the wood+plexi material choice, but it feels solid, and rugged and is quite comfortable to use for lap/couch play. Maybe even more so than the big-ass bulky HRAP's. The side buttons (all 6 of 'em lol) are also nice and clicky, and are easy to hit for fast quarter feeding/resuming play. I haven't decided on the PCB I'll throw in there, since it didn't come with one. I was thinking of sac'ing one of the old school PSX digital pads I still have kicking around, but then I heard about this MC Cthulhu thing that's supposed to be solderless and shit. I'll take an idiot-proof solution any day.

EDIT: I just tried fitting a straight plate under the metal panel. While everything fit snugly, the corner of the plate overlapped the button hole for closest action button: X, LK, #4. My recommendation is to still use an S plate for off-setting the joystick, unless you don't need that button. The plate still needed to be rotated 90 degrees.

Depends on where you are and which shipping you get. They are based out of Torrance, CA.

Since this thing is one of those new Hori trap door cases, Andriasang.com has a nice pic with the flap open to reveal the Start/Select (you decide?) button. I like the look of these cases, but they seem even bigger than the old style. Jeebus.

Also, the button layout on this thing is screwy. Does the game allow for remapping the controls, or are they set in stone?

Gunadam EXVS on PS3 allows fully custom button config. There's also a preset "Arcade Stick 1" layout that works perfectly for HRAPs, Namco, and Madcatz SF4 sticks. I assume the screwy layout is just the stick complying to the default pad button layout so the user doesn't have to deal with configuration.

That's good, but then I have to reconfigure my buttons every time I want to play Street Fighter/KOF/any other game. That's another aspect of licensed sticks that bugs me. Your game ain't the only game I'll be playing with this thing, developer.

No kidding. I love my VSHG, but fuck man, reconfiguring every single game that is not VF5 is tiresome.

The obvious solution is to just rewire the buttons to be the standard layout, but button assignments not matching their labels would also drive me insane, lol.

Hey Markman, any chance of MadCatz making a stick that is only 6 buttons?

I would love a minimalist stick that is like the namco stick, either all black or white, 6 buttons with the soul edition button layout which is what? the Namco noir layout?

Oh god would that be sexy as hell.

If you're willing to do like 3 minutes of modding, buy button hole covers. Pop open top, disconnect buttons, pop out buttons, shove in hole covers. Easy.

I'm thinking the layout given in the "specs" diagram is erroneous -- if you look at the actual stick art labels, it uses the standard "Arcade Controller 1" layout from the game, aka the same layout used on HRAPs/Madcatz/etc. The diagram layout simply doesn't make sense, it's definitely not designed for the game's default "controller" layout.

I'm in for 3 of those 機動戦士ガンダム EXTREME VS. Arcade Sticks.

Would anyone in the world have a use for those old official Dreamcast sticks?

I have two of them in storage somewhere that I have barely touched.

People like the case, and Dreamcast-compatible PCBs are still a unique commodity in that you can't use a Kitty or Cthulhu to connect to a DC. They'd probably fetch somewhere in the low tens of dollars on Shoryuken.

TE Kitty:
The TE Kitty is made for installation in Xbox360 versions of the MadCatz FightStick. Works with Rnd1 and Rnd2 stick. Installation into TE-S based sticks requires an additional cable kit that must be purchases in addition to the TE Kitty board.

Features:
Adds support for all consoles supported by MC Cthulhu (PS3, Xbox1, PS2/PSX, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, SNES, NES, TG-16, others)

From: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/official-kitty-class-boards-thread.129829/ Post 2.

I was under the impression that those both needed to be piggybacked from a Dreamcast compatible PCB? Or am I thinking of the Saturn?

Thanks guys. I am not really looking to make any money off them, so next time I go home I will try and dig them out. I will throw up a post here before I put them on eBay or whatever. I also have a launch DC that I would be willing to sell with them if someone would be interested in the whole package deal.

I'll be in Tokyo for awhile. Anyone know of anything new to pick up there arcade stick wise? Or if anyone is from Japan GAF, holla if there are some hidden spots ;)

I'm gonna get one of these, for sure. Pretty nice looking stick. Still need to buy the game :-( Kinda hoping it gets localized. For those with the game, are the menus easily navigated by a non-japanese speaker?
Yes. The main menu options all have English text in a smaller font, and you can learn the options in Free Battle for time/team life/etc. pretty easily.

Everything is in Japanese but the main menu icons have tiny English bits on the left side that help you understand what they are.

It's pretty straightforward though.
