NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

I got it from LizardLick before they went to shit. Hopefully someone here can help you out.

?
I'm confused at all the LL hate. I hadn't used them in about 3-4 years up until last month, and I shot over a few orders (simple stuff: ball tops, gates, a few buttons, etc) and got them 2 days later. Weird.

It isn't hate. Check the last 3-4 pages of the LL thread at SRK. It looks like they are backed up like crazy. I loved LL, but I can't recommend them until this is all sorted out.

I looked at the website and all the Sanwa sticks say "pre-order". So did they really go to shit, or just have stock problems like focusattack apparently?

I think that stick sells out a lot. When others get on, they may have alternatives or better sites to buy from.

"Man, with how big this thread is, I thought getting a new stick would be easy as hell."

It generally is, you just caught a bad time. I ordered from focusattack a few weeks ago, when the JLFs were in stock. No problem.

I've heard good things about Paradise Arcade Shop, but I haven't used them personally, so I can't guarantee any kind of good service. That said, they have the JLFs in stock.

Looks like I have a small amount of time to make a decision based on the amount left. It doesn't come with a Shaft Cover?

Do I need any mounting plates for the BrawlStick?

Edit: It doesn't have an -SK on the end?

Edit2: Oh, -SK means it has a shaft cover?

I believe SK refers to the shaft cover, yes. You may also want to double check to see if the stick comes with a wiring harness or not, Focus Attack's JLFs didn't.

Wait the power plug in a weird place on the SANWA JLF-TP-8YT? :(

I can't tell if I'm getting something like this:

Because this image hides the other end:

Do I need something like and can I buy something like this?:

Cause I don't want to split wires...

"Wait is the power plug in a weird place on the SANWA JLF-TP-8YT? :(

I'm going to have to strip wires?

Or wait, I do need a harness?"

According to that video (assuming the innards of the WWE Brawl stick are identical), you don't have to worry about a harness or stripping wires or anything like that.

I think he has an SK since I see a power plug sticking out of the side:

The connection for the wiring harness is on the other side that you can't see in that picture.

I just looked inside again, my cable is very long.

it just confuses me that the non-sk one has that one sided wiring harness.

Sorry for being nooby, since it's shipping USPS I wanna make sure I'm prepared.

Nah, It's my fault for confusing you with the wiring harness talk.

BTW just wanted to clarify, the "SK" portion in the model name is to denote that the product comes with a shaft cover.

I thought that until I saw that the power plug is in a different place as well.

Which is why I bought a shaft and you see that noobism about wire harnesses above.

I don't think the wiring harness connector is in a different place, the other stick photo was just taken at a different angle.

IIRC, the mounting plate/stick PCB can be installed in a way that points the wiring harness in a different direction. I don't know which way is standard, though.

You're right. A different website says:

"This model has the correct PCB orientation for drop-in replacement for Madcatz TE and SE fightsticks. "

What are the visual cues to make sure the joystick is not mounted upside down and the PCB is rotated in the right direction?

I seen two vids where one guy rotates from top to right and another bottom to right.

Sorry. I'm probably doing a terrible job of spreading the word... Please check this site for more in depth info:

Just as a heads up. On the page for the Fightstick VS it looks like you have a link missing and some todo text in there. Right at this part:

"Exclusive to V.S. edition Arcade FightSticks, you can connect two to each other and experience the thrill of side-by-side gameplay. Armed with only a Connector Kit (sold separately), link to Connector Kit"

There isn't an actual link to the connector kit, and that last little bit looks like a todo statement.

Thx, will forward to my web team.

I have to ask what's the difference between the SFxTekken VS stick and the pro stick? I am not seeing any difference on the site.

From the little I have seen the VS stick have a new "sturdy" layout and the stick can connect to another stick so you can lay them on a table, connect them, and get that arcade cabinet feel.

The pro sticks are the same as the playskool (red and white) first edition sfxt sticks that came out a few months ago, just new art and color.

So I'm guessing there's officially no MadCatz promo code for Winter Brawl?

That's a shame, I was looking forward to one.

Also, you're doing a good job of spreading the word Markman, it's just that this is a huge thread with a lot of conversations going on and sometimes people miss things.

I would like an answer to this as well. The diagonal directions on the first wave of pads were a bit un-responsive.

We reworked the product completely. Part of this was changing the size of the casing and making everything tighter/fit better inside. But yes, we re-engineered this product and fixed a few things in the process. Obviously making the PS3 version wired was one of them as well.

I just got a Q4RAF for my birthday! Awsm.

Does any one know if turbo is supposed to work by pressing it? I'm using it for my PS3 so I know turbo should work, but when I hit the turbo button, the LED doesn't come up and turbo doesn't work. How do I fix this?

Well, that's just what I needed to know, you have just officially sold at least one of those pads to me :) Any word on when they are going to be available for purchase?

Might just be broken out of the box. My friend's Qanba never has had working turbo or headset plug.

Amazon lists it as availablo on the 24th. Though i looked on gamestops website last night and some places already have it in stock.

Actually, I figured out that you hold turbo AND the button to be turbo'd and it works.

Do note that the date sticker on mine was Jan '12, so it is the latest rendition of them. My top panel isn't metal, it is a transparent shiny foil like effect. You can't "see" the LEDs when they're off, but they glow through it.

So GAF I decided to jump into the world of arcade sticks and picked up a madcatz wwe brawlstick from gamestop for 30 dollars.

Now I know this is by no means the greatest stick in the world but from what I've seen and read it seems to be fairly easy to mod, which was all I was looking for.

So if anybody could give me some recommendations on what to upgrade or change to make it a bit better than just the standard stick I would appreciate it. Right now, with my limited time with it, the only compliant I have is the stick seems a bit loose but maybe that's just me. I know there are dozens of different style and types of buttons but I have no idea what ones are the best to have.

Finally, if anybody could point me in the right direction for changing the art on the stick, I would be grateful. I've already ripped off the default sticker thing and just have the metal plate showing. I don't know if I'm stuck with just getting another lami-label(sp?) or if there are other options out there.

Thanks in advance

Well at a most basic level you could just put in a Sanwa JLF and Sanwa 30mm buttons to bring the important parts up to spec with the top of the line MadCatz parts. These are the parts that you would get in a Japanese SFIV cabinet.

Stick
Buttons

However if you want to get a little more crazy there are lots of other types and styles of sticks and buttons out there. If you want a guide for this and like geeky technical stuff I would just go ahead and read the first 10 or so pages on slagcoins guide to joysticks. It gets into custom stick detail far more then you would need later on, but the early parts of the guide have a really good intro to the different types of arcade sticks and buttons that are out there.
