Does the Hori Soul Calibur 4 stick use different buttons than the Madcatz TE sticks?? the buttons feel much less sensitive than the TE.

This thing?

I'm positive it would use Hori's imitation parts, which are definitely less sensitive that Sanwa's OBSF-30 line of pushbuttons, which is what MadCatz uses in the TE sticks. I just replaced a set of 8 from a old HRAP. Ick.

Sanwa buttons feel different from time to time. Depends on when they were made and how they were stored. Different batches sometimes produce different results/feel.

I installed the LS-56-01 into my HRAP yesterday and broke her in with a little Saturn action (via ToToTek PS2->Sat adapter). I like it. Nice and stiff (the legends were true), decently quick engage, but the throw is a little far for my taste. Had an absolute blast playing Batsugun and Fighting Vipers.

Next on my list, LS-33. It allegedly has the quickest engage of any Seimitsu stick.

Edit: I used a MS plate, but there was no need, since the stock VF plate would have worked just fine. I ordered from Arcadeshop.de. Took 10 days to get to me. Great seller, will buy again. AAAAA+++

Shoulda gotten an LS-40-01. It's now my go-o stick for replacements, even over the LS-32-01.

No doubt. I already have a LS-40 setup, and I love it quite a bit. I'm just going down the line and trying out different parts. (Next up, LS-33.) After a few hours with the 56 though, I started thinking that if I can fit a LS-56 spring into the LS-40, that would be my ultimate stick.

What are everyone's opinion on the Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA?

Good all round stick?

Great stick. Good looking. A little light compared to the previous RAP. Easy to mod. A little difficult to change artwork but third-parties sell plexi overlays to help. They just annonced a reskin, which might come to the US, hopefully. Fir shooters it is a little loosey-goosey, the stick, but an Seimitsu drops in quickly.

shit, of course. the Hori SC5 stick is on sale on Amazon right now for $99.

just spent an extra 15 on it and it wasn't shipped from Amazon... so annoying.

Decided to get a Qanba Q4 just now with the small discount they offered.

Question: is there any sort of guide out there for how to get stick art for the stick. I've got an idea of who I want/what I want, but don't know what I need to do for it.

When I was checking SRK, someone posted a link to a set of Korean sticks which uses Japanese parts. Damn they look similar to the Virtua Stick High Grade. Differences I seen are that it uses a modified Taito Vewlix layout instead of a Sega Astro City/Lindbergh style, special buttons for the special actions like home and select and there isn't slightly cut sides.

It also uses a Paewang Revolution PCB.

If there is a way to import em...

A year ago, I would have said the HRAP V3/VX was Hori's best joystick...
I've changed my mind since then.

It's still a nice joystick, BUT...
a) it's the least mod-friendly Pro-level joystick they've released;
b) hard to change the artwork out without ruining it completely; you never had to change out/
wreck artwork on the old HRAP 1/2/3-style bases if you were careful or didn't remove
the original welded mounting spots on the licensed HRAP's;
c) the interior of the HRAP V3/VX is incredibly cramped! I had the most difficult time removing the original Sanwa buttons because there was very little room to press on the
release tabs! There were buttons I had to jimmy off by using a small screwdriver to
activate the tabs...

d) It's real obvious that Hori lightly copied the Mad Catz TE from several respects. You'd
expect better from an industry accessory leader than copying.

Those are the reasons why I've come to appreciate the Soul Calibur V design better.

a) it's NOT a copy of a Mad Catz design; it's closer to the Sega VSHG with a similar,
comfortable 30mm button layout... Personally, I think Astrocade button layout is
much more natural and intuitive feeling than the other button layouts (especially HRAP
1);
b) More interior space for button swapping and PCB mods/swap-outs;
c) the original art is far easier to protect OR remove for alternate/new art;
d) Feels higher-grade construction-wise than the HRAP V3/VX design.

The only thing I dislike terribly about the SC V is that it's harder to drop in replacement control levers than the older HRAP case designs. I know people say they can squeeze in LS-32/-40's from the top like the old styles but I had problems and had to remove and install the LS-32 PCB from the baseplate after I removed that piece. Other people have taken the more drastic measure of cutting base plastic with Dremels OR positioning/repositioning the LS-joystick lever until it fits through even if it scrapes the base plastic. What a ridiculous oversight/lack of design forethought by Hori! => IMHO...

NOTE: I am NOT saying anybody's joystick designs are bad or "sucky." There are just specific reasons I prefer some designs over others. I have issues with everybody's joysticks. Some minor or big inconvenience always pops up with a design; nothing will every completely satisfy everybody. That's why companies are trotting out newer designs all the time.

There's already a lot of complaints about Hori's new Fighting Edge design.
The major one is shaping up to be the lack of readily available replacement Hori buttons when the originals wear out. Many people want to keep the original button feel otherwise there's going to be massive swapouts of the buttons with Sanwa and Seimitsu components. Again, there's no source for button/component replacements when the originals eventually wear out. Hori doesn't have tons of loose backstock buttons and NOBODY's carrying new-style Hori replacement buttons, period.

For the new Hori joystick lever, complaints aren't as prominent... It'll last longer than the buttons and most of us decide to begin with whether we're keeping a JLF-type lever or replacing it with another lever design.

Yo Markman, do you know anything about future stick plans for the Wii U since Tekken Tag 2 is announced for it and looks to have so odd features on that system? I'm curious if anything is in the works yet for stick players on that console, or if I'm gonna need to find a TvC stick and use it through the nunchuck option (if available) for that game.

Hey guys. What are some good websites to purchase a stick from? I'm in Canada. Not looking to spend much money.

You get what you pay for. I'd suggest going to the sites themselves, and looking on Amazon for sales, Mad Catz sticks can occasionally be found on sale for $100 USD.

those cheapies are ok. but its 30 more for a much better stick that will last a lot longer.

the parts in those Hori cheapies will wear out pretty quick. they work ok though. not as smooth or sensitive.

Should I steer clear of these two:

I bought the VX when I was strapped for cash and needed a replacement stick. It's not bad for the price. The Hori buttons feel more fragile than Sanwa OBSF-30s and the stick is looser and has a larger dead zone than the JLF. If there'd been a tournament-related or other sale going on at the same time, I definitely would've dropped the extra ~$30 to get a stick that was easier to mod and had better stock parts.

If money is an issue, I'd hit up local GameStops (or your regional equivalent) to see if there are any of those old WWE Brawl sticks around. They're about $20, not significantly worse than the cheap Horis and easy to mod.

getting some play time in on the Hori SC5 stick. its really nice!

nicer than the RAP's that i have. really glad i did some looking around before i bought another RAP. too bad it went on sale like the day after i ordered it...

now the only problem is that it has SC5 art on it. gonna have to switch that up eventually. it still does look nice, im just not a SC fan.

That Nyko stick is an ergonomic mess...goddamn

DP switch right under the stick...wat :lol

oh wow, i didnt even see that. lol jesus.

i applaud the idea, but the execution is lacking. its cool that you can swap the stick, but it looks not only ugly, but very uncomfortable.

Oh, I'd love to have one for shits and giggles...maybe at $50, max.

What an atrocious time to release a $180 stick. There are, like, thirty better options.

You'd be surprised... There are people on SRK who have been regrettably dumb enough to say they'd pay $30-$40 more for that POS.

Having more money to burn doesn't obviously give you common sense!

Even Markman came in with an "Eek" comment that says it all and he's the resident joystick freak...

I just quipped that the first time I saw the Nyko stick it made my eyes burn.

You know that end scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where all the Nazis' faces melted after the Ark of the Covenant was opened?
THAT was my first reaction!

Newest addition. The sticker on the bottom just says "Real Arcade Pro." That makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Replaced all the buttons with Sanwa OBSF's, preserving the original color scheme and layout, and dropped a Seimitsu LS-56-01 in it. This brings me up to 7 sticks total. Getting there.
