Money spent - $65.00 (DoA stick = $35, Octagonal gate, buttons bat top and adapter = $30)

:D

I might go to Gamestop to see if they have any crappy 360 sticks. I got HDR on 360 earlier and my god I wanted to smash my controller, I hate that dpad so much. Just get maybe an EX2 to tide me over until my TE stick arrives. Thing is, it's not listed on their website, anyone how much they are?

How simple? Does the regular stick have the same labeled disconnects as the TE? I would think they'd use the same internals across both sticks to reduce cost. And can the artwork be swapped?

I might just get a pad (if they turn out alright) and take a wait and see approach to the sticks. If they're good and they catch on, maybe we'll see an unbranded version down the road.

I'm fairly sure a quick scour of both this and the SF IV hype thread will reveal all. I'd search for you but I am at work :o

What did you end up doing with it? That was prolly one of the prettiest EX2 I've ever seen. A shame it died.

I'm really disappointed that these aren't available in Canada. The full info is finally out from CES and I can't even order from the US anymore since everything was sold out before all the info was even out there.

Importing would've been extremely expensive anyway, but it's really disappointing as I would've liked one of these. I've been trying to get my hands on an excellent arcade stick at a half decent price for ages.

MarkMan, do you know when/if there will be any word on a second run of the sticks? I'm a bit bummed they're pretty much presold out (we only have Gamestops here) a month before launch.

I'm trying to think of a backup plan, most likely the HRAP EX for the 360 and then redo the buttons. I dunno.

Thanks!

It sits abadoned in some dark cupboard under my consoles/components.

I could toss one of those gamestop/madcatz PCBs that modders seem to love use in there, solder it together and call it a day, but Since I already own a full Sanwa'd Hori Real Arcade Pro EX, and I have the MadCatz TE on preorder, I'd like to try a wireless mod instead.

Unfortunately from what I gather from more experienced modders, the problem is the EX2 profile is too small to fit an official controller PCB + battery pack. I can only hope for a smaller licensed wired device gets released (I was hoping the RockBand deluxe mic would be wireless, but no dice).

TBH it would probably be better to just build my own case and go through with the wireless thing that way. Maybe this summer.

Christ the 360 HRAP is $40 more than the ps3 version.... Just get the regular SFIV stick and buy new parts from Lizard Lick. Will be cheaper than the Hori.

This is something I'm considering doing. It'll be slightly cheaper (factoring in that I'd need a new stick on the SFIV would make the HRAP only ~$30 more). I think the HRAP looks better than the regular SFIV stick, but I worry about how big it is, as I wasn't wild about the size and how "hollow" my T5 stick felt.

Did you happen to see those comparison pictures Mark posted (might have just been on SRK) of the TE and HRAP. The TE seems to be a bit bigger....if you are worried about size.

page throught the last 15 or so pages of this thread.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=162653&page=147

I am almost certain there is a picture that has both the TE and regular edition. You could get a close guesstimate on how the regular stick compares to the HRAP from the pics Mark posted.

another option would be to buy the HRAP and then get that replacement panel being sold on SRK for it. The button layout is the same as the TE edition, you could fit a Seimitsu stick if you want to try one in the future, and they have a Vewlix psd listed so you could have it look pretty close to the authentic SFIV cab if that is your thing....just can't get over how much more it is than the ps3 version.

are there really problems with every batch of the virtua stick high grade controllers?

i haven't really noticed anything wrong.....

only with Tekken DR PSN and certain emulators I think
sounds more software related than a hardware fault

i don't think I have ever seen a modded VSHG
is it just too awesome stock?

not even LS-32s or PS-14 Gs for Seimitsu people or nothing

edit: EPIC FAIL I forgot about the awesome dual-platform PCB mods

Just went to Gamestop after the guy said they'll be doing preorders till next week only to find out they canceled so now im on the waiting list if they get them in..... FUCK!!!!!!

Hey MM do you know it the Hori Store takes Us cards ?? Just incase in Cant get a SFIV TE stick ?? Would like to pick up HRAP 3 SA

Not sure if old, but ShopTo have the Tournament Edition SFIV stick up for pre-order. They've stopped their pre-orders of the normal SFIV arcade stick, so it's safe to assume they still have a few Tournament Editions going spare. Grab 'em whilst you can, UK'ers! :D

http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page...roller - Tournament Edition&platform=XBOX 360

Edit: They've got the image wrong, but they've used the same one for this cheaper stick, so I assume they've just made a mistake and that the £120 one is the tournament edition.

Edit 2: They've got the PS3 one up for pre-order too.

See what happens when you wait? Best course of action with arcade sticks. Shoot now. Ask questions later. :D

I preordered as soon as I heard that damnable 3000 number. I hope I wasn't too late.

I have my MarkMan voodoo doll prepped in case I don't get one :D

This is good. I hate my hori ex2 now that I have a VSHG. The biggest difference is the button sensitivity. You have to press the buttons all the way down for them to engage. It messes your timing up when you move to a better stick because you learn to compensate. I was pianoing my super moves for the longest time because I had a problem with the button timing....

Also the stick needs less movement to actually engage the microswitches. Big difference.
Yeah I hate more Hori Ex2 so bad that I actually do better using the dpad, unless I'm playing with charge characters...But I main Cammy : )

Oh and for those of us who want a pad...Would this one be better or the upcoming Mad Catz, sorry if a little OT?

Horistore ONLY delivers to Japanese addresses. You'd have to go through a third party such as Per at http://www.akihabarashop.jp, Play Asia, or just settle for a regular HRAP3 through Amazon. HRAPs are not that difficult to mod with better buttons btw.

I'm sure this discussion has been done to death, but what's the preference on gates for 2D fighters? Square or Octagon?

Square. Octagonal gates were designed for Virtua Striker (the soccer arcade game in Japan). They have never been used in fighting games in Japanese arcades.

I prefer an octagonal gate. American arcade machines always used octagonal or something similar. Square gates just don't feel right (diagonals specifically).

Is gamecrazy still taking preorders on the TE stick?

Answer: No, they've reached their allocation.

Time to just mod my VSHG or use my custom wireless sanwa stick... I guess crack addicts have to get cut off sometime too.

The standard cherry-switch joysticks used square gates and the optical joysticks (used by some arcades from late 90's) used circular (full 360) gates. An octagonal gate would feel closer to an optical joystick, if that's what the arcades you played at used.

Well I have to wait when it involves tying up $50 for a couple of months. :/

Jesus christ, I hope gamestop didn't take more preorders on the TE sticks than they actually have. If I don't get one, I will be so bummed.

Wonder if we'll find out the status sooner rather than later.

I have a feeling that those of us who pre-ordered at a GS store won't actually know if we're screwed until they send them out to the stores next month. I have mine paid in full already so I hope that makes my store a priority but I think I may have been the only one to pre-order there.

[sincere]Gamestop would never do such a thing[/sincere]

my online order says backordered, just hope that I still get it

Hey Markman, I know you are super busy...but I have 2 questions regarding the TE stick, and it would be awesome if you could answer them for me.

Question 1: Will the TE stick have break away cables? Some may want to use the MAD CATZ extention cables for those of use playing far away from big screen televisions on our couch.

Question 2: What type of Allen wrench is needed for opening up the top of the TE Stick in order to do our mods correctly? And is it possible that it is included......fat chance I know :D

Thanks for your time in answering these for us.

Those Tournament Edition sticks are awesome looking. I never really used sticks because the arcade scene left before I came but I know my brothers would love a set of those for their PS3. Are they worth the insane price tag? Also, it seems like a lot of places have their initial shipments spoken for, will their be a steady supply of these sticks post launch?

Arcade Stick GET:
2ed8r3q.png

I apologize for my awful camera phone. It's a Pelican Real Arcade Universal, which I used back when I played CvS2 on XBL. Modded with Happ parts, and re-modded with a Madcatz 360 PCB.

I wish there were more 360 sticks with cases that worked well for Happ parts. I didn't want to spend a huge amount on a new stick, and I didn't want to get a more moderately priced stick when I'd have to hack it apart to get Happ parts in, so this was pretty much my last resort. If nothing else, I was hoping to save it for possibly playing TvC since the stick could be used with the Gamecube.

At least I'll be well adjusted to it by the time SF4 comes out; I'm still having trouble with the weird SPD motion in HDR for some reason, but I'm much better at HCBx2 for the the super and playing classic mode isn't a pain anymore now that I can hit 3P easily. Also, Piano rolls YAY FINALLY.

Now to figure out some way to use a headset with this beast...

You're outta luck at this point. You and me both.

Guess what I got in the mail today...Lizard Lick sent two sets of 30mm Sanwa buttons, 6 24mm buttons, two bat tops and adaptors...and 1 Seimitsu clear white ball top and 6 30mm buttons...

The final product. I swapped out the crappy buttons for all Sanwas, swapped the square gate for octo and switched the ball top for bat top.

I must say...I can now do dragon punches and supers. But charge characters are a little more interesting. I can see what people mean...regarding the square versus octo. Not sure if it's the bat top I like or the new gate...will have to experiment.

Have madcatz or Markman confirmed the PS3 TE delay? I haven't heard it from anywhere but lizardlick.

MarkMan has said only poor planning on retailers will be causing a delay. Apparently LizardLick got their order in late.

Haha, good style!

That's exactly what I am going to do with my Amazon HRAP3, minus the buttons (already have 6 Seimitsu PS-14-GN 30mm in them). I also feel the same way with the octogonal gate with charge characters though. It's probably the smaller distance between the points that make it harder to deal. Can't wait for my bat top though. I also grabbed some for my TE that's coming. :D
