MarkMan, is there anything you felt you had to leave off of the TE stick?

I imagine dual 360/PS3 support was on the list of features at some point, but just plain impossible thanks to Microsoft.. but anything other than that?

It appears as though nothing is missing, so i have no idea where you could go from here if you were tasked with designing an even better stick!

Yes, there are lots of things.

But I'll go over that later...

The basic things though, the ESSENTIALS to help differentiate our product, I think we got right.

Oh well theres always SFV when it comes out in 2059!

Hah, no way! This year has plenty of big fighting games that could warrant a re-jig :)

I guess it never really occured to me much before, but Hori really have done nothing with their sticks for so long now. Not to knock you and your teams effort, i'm sure it took heaps of thought and combined knowledge - but you only have to design it once, so it's shocking that Hori haven't bothered. Do it right once like you have done, then they could proceed to re-badge for each release like they do now, but with a much better product. I guess it's just a lack of competition, up till now, so it can only be a good thing that MadCatz has stepped up!

Im assuming you guys will be dropping a stick when tekken comes out. LOL mr. SDtekken

From a fighting gamer standpoint I hope costs continue to go down and somehow Mad Catz can battle Hori not only on the product level, but also with competitive pricing (sub $99).

LOL I grabbed this from SRK. TOO PIMP!

Yeah, I hope so too. The thing I like about the TE and Fight Stick is the thought put into them. From the fact that the low-end joystick is modifiable to the cord compartment, clean look, switchable art, etc on the TE.

I will say the price does need to come down a bit...as one could buy a HRAP3 for $90 and just swap out the buttons for less than the TE.

And if you do release a Tekken 6 stick, try to include some of the cutting room floor ideas you had. I'd like to see what other ideas you had...

I'm obviously impressed, as I bought four of the TEs (two for each system).

I've never felt the need to play games with an arcade stick, but since experiencing Street Fighter IV in an arcade in Tokyo last summer I really want to play the game this way when the console version is released in february. What's a good entry level stick? I'm thinking about getting the Mad Catz Street Fighter IV FightStick.

And what other games on 360 are fun to play with an arcade stick (besides fighting games)? Metal Slug 3?

I read that the Art for the TE was swappable, but is the normal sf4 stick art just as easily swapped or is it a sticker of some kind. Sorry if its been answered before didnt see it.

It's just a piece of paper I believe, I am sure I have seen a video where it just flaps up when taken apart, with a piece of plastic that goes on top of it for protection.

As a heads up, the artwork on the TE is a decal fused on the bottom of an acrylic sheet.

For the regular FightStick, it is a decal on a METAL plate. It will be harder to swap out art here. You will have to figure out your own thing.

I'm saving MarkMan some time so he can get onto that damn writeup! :lol

Thanks for the posts androgyne, I guess I could just get a custom vinyl sticker made for 15-20 bucks and just place it over the original art, exacto out the excess sticker. A TE is something I definitely want but its gonna be harder for me to snag atm :(

Didn't want to be left off the arcade stick bandwagon and ordered the regular fightstick. Hopefully someone does a tutorial of some sort to swap out the parts.

anyone else going to be switching out their buttons on the TE when they get it? I was going to order some now, but can't decide what color to get, guess it would be easier if I had a background pic in mind. Just want to make sure I have everything I need before they ship. Probably end up taking the buttons from the TE and swap those with the default ones on my HRAP. Hmm... decisions, decisions.

i'm doing the opposite, as i kind of like the black/white/red colorway.

so far i'm set on: swap out the stick for an LS-32, keep the white buttons, add a white bat top + 2 black button plugs

i'm working on finding high res black and white Scott Pilgrim art now :lol

wow that already sounds amazing

i'm having second thoughts about modding my TE

the collector whore in me is vehemently opposed

I think I'm going to order some 8 way gates, new balltops/battop and some different colored buttons. Not sure what to do on the art thing though...would love to take the promo Ken/Ryu artwork and somehow put it on the stick instead for the PS3 and maybe the Chun Li artwork for 360. :D

dude, you're telling me... i'm kicking myself in the ass for not pre-ordering 2, but it's nice to know someone else will be getting one of these hard to find sticks to play with instead of me having one chilling on ice in my closet.

it hasn't been finalized, and i will certainly be commisioning someone with photoshop skills to help me but i'm looking at these:

+ a script lower case j over a crossbones (see: my username/nickname) somewhere in there
+ jab/strong/fierce/etc in the same font near the buttons

Called my local Long Beach, CA location. I am still in the system. Thank god.

i'm thinking i should buy a good 360 stick while they're around -- we know the TEs are limited, and we don't know how many HRAP EXs they're going to make. not really liking the style of the basic madcatz stick, and once you've put in arcade parts it's almost as expensive as the TE anyway. i'm really hooked on hd remix right now -- to the point that i don't think i'll be switching to sf4 for long. the ps3 version is getting on my nerves, and i suspect the 360 community will last longer. if the HRAP EX was priced closer to the HRAP 3 i'd already have one :/

drohne, you own PS3 HDR and you won't play with us in the GAF thread?! This is outrageous!

is the tournament edition really worth it? i know it looks the sweetest, but it's made by madcatz....doesnt that concern anyone?

That is just one of the many places/people praising the stick.

Nice! I just pre-ordered it, and I'll have to cancel my Gamestop order when I get home. I trust Amazon to get me the stick much, much more than Gamestop.

I'd hang onto the Gamestop order for a few days at least. Just to make sure Amazon opening the pre-order again wasn't a mistake.

ok......so should i go with the madcatz over the hori? which is better?
All signs point to the madcatz entry level stick as the way to go. It offers easy changing of parts if you were so inclined to upgrade it to a top tier authentic arcade parts. I think your concern of the madcatz brand is legitimate though. However they are apparently a new company for all intents and purposes seems like they are really passionate about making good products now. Guess its time to give them a second chance. Ive been holding on to my grudge since i bought a crapy wheel madcatz branded over 10 years ago. Looking forward to my first fightstick :)

Yeah, good call. I'll keep both orders and I can always just re-sell it to one of you dudes at cost or send it back if no one bites.

How does the standard Fightstick compare to the official Dreamcast arcade stick in terms of size and weight? The DC stick has always been my favourite base and really shines once modded with Sanwa/Seimitsu parts. The HRAP etc. have always been too big for me to be comfortable with.

I'm thinking of cancelling my TE preorder and just going with a regular Fightstick and installing a Seimitsu stick and Sanwa buttons.

how much does it cost, generally, to make a custom arcade stick?
this is a really general question

i mean, you could go super chetto and use a cardboard box and build one for under $40; less if you already have spare PCB and the Happ/Sanwa/Seimitsu levers and buttons or whatever you prefer.

Really tempted to cancel my GS in-store preorder and put one in at amazon...

My honest advice is keep the instore preorder but preorder on Amazon too.
Worst case you can cancel your preorder in store when you receive from Amazon.

Akim said:
when does amazon charge you with preorders?

edit: guess I can't read

double edit: Can I cancel my preorder if the stick becomes available for 360 again?

Yeah, you just go into your account on the amazon page.

Since I can't put Happ into the Hori or new Mad Catz sticks I went ahead and got another of the old Nuby Tech PS2/Xbox original anniversary sticks. They are super easy to mod and I already had one so I can now make one for PS3 and another for 360. I already have the buttons and sticks so now I just need to order one of those USB boards from Lizard Lick for the PS3 and a generic 360 controller to rip the PCB out of.
