NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

I've been following this thread for months, finally got my account activated.
I had no intention of buying an arcade stick, until I saw this thread. I eventually bought a MadCatz SE and replaced the stick and buttons with Sanwa parts, which was easier than expected and actually kind of fun. I still suck with it though.

So thank you to MarkMan and everyone else in this thread for the help with links, pics, ideas, etc.

No problem, I've got links for everything

Found this guy through friends of mine/ shoryuken. He makes custom plexi replacements for the TE stick, great quality too, and you can have him make etchings (like Marmans awesome chun stick), and he makes six-button variants too. The main reason in myself getting one is that the default red art is kinda stuck to the plexi, plus I wanted six buttons instead of eight.

Myself and about 3 of my friends can vouch for his work, it's good stuff.

I can vouch for art's work as well

Good stuff.

Gah, changing art sounds quite hard, frightening actually. Think I'll keep the 2 "extra" buttons, so I should be good to go with the stock plexi? Taking the note that I succeed, taking the stock art off?

In any case thanks for the links again!

Takes about an hour, tops, being careful. Really quite simple, it looks way more intimidating that it is. The hardest part? Getting the buttons in and out.

Well, after reading carefully through the shoryoken thread while watching the pictures of course, it doesn't look hard at all :D. I just have to be carefull. Thanks for the link _dementia, now my fears are almost gone, haha!

Now the next task up on my Mission: Stick is choosing the art itself. Although I absolutely adore MarkMan's TE stick, think I'll go with something more sophisticated :lol.

I just preordered the 360.

God damn this thread.

I'm still upset over how much I have to pay to get it to Sweden. Damn customs. I'm still hoping I can get someone to make me a custom and send it as a gift or at least mark it as $20

..pwetty pwease?

Wow, those white TEs are gorgeous!
And here I was telling myself that I needed one of those babies for my PS3 (sucks being an european Blazblue enthousiast after having bought a 360 TE for SF4 >__<). Only thing is, on those play-asia shots, the 360 one is clearly way sexier than the PS3 one : hope the PS3 pictures are those of an old prototype.

Anyways, hadn't done it before but I'll take this post as an occasion to thank Markman for his awesome work on this stick! I'm in love with it and I know I'm not the only one. ^^

That doesn't look so hot, tbh. Sure the one on the 360 page looks nice, but that one is clearly a render, and not the actual product.

I'd rather an all matte black stick.

I'd see that one as a great opportunity for a lightly collored art modification though.

Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiyayyay....really ....i.............do want .

NOooo......................PLEASE !

Have more then enough Arcade sticks for every system already , Madcatz TE included so i will try to unsee it !

....backs away slowly and leaves this tread for now .....

I'm not commenting on those sticks.

But I am.

Those are not anywhere near the final look/design of the product.

But still.

I ain't sayin shit.

:lol

Looking forward to it regardless. Good stuff breaking into Hori's monopoly on the stick market.
Competition is <3

The all-white base is hot. Now I'm starting to wonder if I should wait for one of those and get rid of the new SFIV TE that I currently have laying around (intending to dual-mod, haven't gotten around to it).

That's fine, comment on the Capcom/Mad Catz stick announcement that's happening this weekend instead!

It's okay, this is a safe place, haha.

Or the Tekken 6 Hori sticks so I know if I should cancel my pre-order and go for the new TEs instead D:

Plenty of other places sell them, but I had that window open anyway.

Probably the easiest mod out there, just takes a 3mm hex screwdriver (most me about $5 at home depot, for the black screws on top), and a regular phillips head screwdriver. When you take it apart you'll see the square gate held in with 4 screws, take em off and replace with the one above, and thats it!

Welcome to being spoiled on the best home arcade stick ever made, you'll never want to use another :lol
Will this work for the SFIV SE stick?

my $2.49 TE finally shipped yesterday and looks like its coming in today! :D

How did you I don't even wut?

I'm about to bite on a $49.99 Hori EX2 for 360 today (Don't really have $70-$100 to blow on a good stick) because of the imminent release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and I may pick up BlazBlue as well.

Is the stick adequate? I don't need super amazing official arcade parts to do a shoryuken, I just need to know if it's sturdy, responsive, and well-mapped.

Mine will be coming for about $20. I never trade in games so I had a tough time finding some to trade in. Can't wait for it to arrive to replace my FS3. :lol

It'll do. I used one for a long time (from DOA4 onward until SFIV released) and until I used the TE stick, I was quite happy with it. The buttons could do with being more sensitive, but otherwise there isn't a great deal to grumble about.

iam thinking of buying a Mad Catz PS3 Arcade FightStick but im just not sure. Ive never played with a acrade stick befofe and iam not sure if the mad catz stick is worth £52.37 for me? I am curently playing with a Mad Catz FightPad and acutally like it .. BUT i find it rather difficult to do 360 moves..

please help me decide should i get a stick or not? Is the madcatz stick ok or are there any known problems?

Do it! I'm on my first stick ever (bought the TE). Though I'm new to fighting games, I absolutely love it. I'm still not quite better with the stick than I am with the pad, but I know that when I don't pull off a move, it's my fault and not the stick's fault. I expect I'll far surpass my pad skills in time. Also, it's just a hell of a lot of fun to play with a stick. A pad just feels like such a disconnected experience now.

Being that I thought my 2nd modded EX2 died (it didn't...just a loose solder joint), I dug a couple older sticks out of the closet.

I love this thing. In my search for another, I found a SFA2 branded one on ebay.

Ball top and color is a negative, but I still might cop once I find another Saturn USB adapter (currently use Magic Box)

Great stick all around. Nice short throw on the stick, buttons could stand to be a little more sensitive, but other than that...no complaints.

This stick...believe it or not, is what I've been using the most for SFIV (don't laugh):

I *really* like this stick more than I should. But I never miss an input with this thing.

I hate ball tops, but I'm starting to warm up to square gates (which both of these sticks have). The key is the dead zone has to be slight. Otherwise (like with the EX2 stock), you really feel the actuator hitting those corners. I hate that.

AAHH!
This is the stick I grew up with! I love that thing, the button layout was perfect
