I like the HARP 3 over the TE Stick. For one, The stick is a little stiffer(Not HAPP Stiff) compare to that loose Sanwa stick on the TE Stick. And, I love the "SEGA Arch"(The button layout) Compare to the one the TE Stick uses(I seem to miss buttons from time to time)But, like _dementia mention, is all preference. But, I do like the TE case over the HARP 3. But VSHG owns all :) Just saying.
I'm glad we can agree on something :)
Six-button SEGA layout FTW.

Don't the HRAP3 and TE both use a Sanwa JLF stick?

He mentions in his post that he likes his HRAP JLF because it's worn in. He hasn't used the TE enough to wear it in; it's still got the relative stiffness of a brand new one.

He actually said he prefers his HRAP because it's stiffer and that he doesn't like the loose stick on the TE.

Here's a silly question but, can arcade buttons operate my car horn?

My car horn is a piece of junk. A big hunk of rubber that's supposed to connect two wires when you push on it, and then spring back again to disconnect them, but it doesn't push so well, or spring back so well anymore either (which is bad, as my horn has gotten stuck in the "on" position before).

I was thinking I should mod in a button or two, something I could just drop into a drilled hole and then wind a nut on the back, and then I realized that arcade buttons were exactly what I wanted, and that they'd be awesome.

But are they built to handle the kind of electricity that a car horn would use? I wouldn't want to buy them and drill my steering wheel just to fry them the first time someone cuts me off in traffic.
To answer my own question, I spoke with a car-guy friend and he said that yes, if the button directly operated the horn, it would probably fry a button that wasn't specially designed for it. But if the horn uses a relay, which most do (including mine), then a minimal power button operates the relay, and the relay operates the horn, so any old button will do.

So I guess I'm going to mod my car now.

After 6+ months, I still can't get used to a stick. I can't wrap my mind around the square gate, and I still feel incredible awkward with a stick. I haven't put in the needed time to really feel comfortable at all, and I'm pretty much done with sticks. They are just not for me. It's pretty fucking sad that I can play ST way better with a keyboard on GPPO.

Finally completed my Mad Catz sticks. The white ones are indeed extra, extra sexy. Looking forward to the Asian release. And I got the PS3 version of the little, hot SE to go next to my 360 version...best little stick, the SE. I'm hoping the mold gets used some more.

Nice! Markman and team really outdid themselves with the Comic Con Mad Catz TEs. Props!

Yep, super slick. And the all-white really helps reveal just how large and hefty the TE really is. The orange buttons are fun too.

But, there are too many PS360 stick out there. I want some Wii action....or at least one that is modifiable and has a standard Wii button map. If only for use on all the VC games I've picked up over the years. Right now I just tend to use my super-fami controller or pull out my small stick for Blue's Journey.

Try an octogate.

Alrighty every one, here's a silly question from a silly idiot trying to buy a Stick for his PS3. I have NO experience doing this, and after browsing a ridiculous amount of threads looking for answers, just feel more confused.

I was about to buy a HORI PS3 Fighting Stick 3 ($50), when I stumbled on some SFIV sticks on sale at the local Fry's Electronics. The Street Fighter IV FightStick SE for $63, and the Street Fighter IV FightStick TE for $100. So given those 3, and keeping the price differences in mind, which is the best for someone who hasn't been big into fighting games since the SNES? For reference, I have a copy of SFIV, plan on getting MvC2 the instant I purchase said stick, and will probably get BlazBlue soon after that (I want to get back into them :D ). Also, how ridiculous is it for someone who has no experience to try and mod a stick (with those 3 models?) or is modding even necessary?

Also, if there are any other suggestions feel free to shoot them my way. I'm always up for learning more.

I'm sorry for this probably being the 1-billionth time this has been asked, but I'm seriously super-confused at this point.

There are differences between a normal HRAP3 and a TE stick...

The HRAP3 Sanwa JLF isn't mounted as sturdy as the TE stick, it is screwed at two points and does not use a flat mounting plate like the TE does.

The reason we did so with the TE is to ensure both sturdiness and to make sure we can have a 4 way power/option for mounting.

I love arcade sticks and I'm sleepy at work.

for a BEGINNER stick, Hori FS3 is awesome. I was able to find one when I first started for $30 though, so that might be different. It works out of the box without problems but the quality is a little low and it's is really hard to mod.

The MadCatz SE stick has a good box, but the stick and the buttons themselves aren't that good and you might want to switch out the parts, so there might be additional costs to replace them.

The TE stick is the best one out of the box and doesn't require replacing since they are sanwa parts.

I'm biased on thinking that the FS3 is crap because of the layout it introduces to beginners.

That's just me though.

It's certainly low quality and a WEIRD layout. I would only recommend it to people who are not sure they are not going to enjoy joystick. No way I would recommend to someone who prefers joystick already.

Oh yeah, MarkMan, I was asking a few posts back, but I had a question about changing art on the SE stick. I'm trying to make a background for the stick, but it seems the template is too big, so I was just wondering how much I could stretch it. When I zoom in 100%, there is a little pixelation and I was wondering if that's going to look bad.

Pictures (or a video!), I'm interested in how that turns out. I think it might be hard to hit just a single button when you go to horn someone, though.

I'm getting a custom stick at some point and I want it to work on the 360, the PS2 (the actual PS2 console, not a PS3 emulating PS2 games), and the PS3. Is this possible, and if so, exactly what hardware am I gonna need to achieve my awesome dreams?

Additionally, does anyone remember how much Akihabarashop was charging for the LS-32 and for PS-14 buttons? I seem to recall it was quite a bit cheaper than Lizardlick, but I can't remember and can't check the prices because Akihab has been "closed" for weeks.

It's very possible. You'll need a Common ground X360 controller (a cheap one like the Gamestop/Madcatz ones will do) and a multiconsole (MC) Cthulhu PCB as well.

Oh, and generally Akishop was cheaper for parts than Lizardlick, but shipping costs from Japan sort of balanced it out. Dunno if it's still the same now. Gamingnow.net is another alternative. I tried them recently and was satisfied with their rapid turnaround. They don't pack the parts as nicely as LL or Aki though :(

I think I still have an official 360 controller I destroyed out of sheer hatred for its d-pad... would that work? If not, I'll look into the 'Catz.

Oh yeah, and is there any reasonably easy way to get it to work with the Wii, Saturn or Dreamcast, too? I have a Total Control Plus for the Dreamcast, so I guess that works, but if I can somehow turn this into the Ultimate Multiconsole Contraption (tm), that'd be kinda neat.

I don't know if the official wired 360 controllers are common ground. Surely someone else will have an answer for you.

I think as far as DC/Saturn, you'll probably need PS converters with MC cthulhu :(

MC cthulhu natively supports Gamecube though, so it will play nice with Wii games that support Gamecube controllers like Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus and Tasunoko vs. Capcom.

Cool, Tatsunoko vs Capcom is basically the reason I was asking. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to shell out for another stick just to play that when it hits our shores.

But yeah, if there's no easy solution for the Sega stuff, that's fine, I suppose. As I said, I do have a converter for the Dreamcast, and the Saturn pad is good enough that I really don't mind.

Yes, if you have converters.

Any of the HRAP1/2 sticks will crush the cheapo HRAP3s.

---

PS3 Backwards compatibility sucks anyways.

TE not working with the PS3 PlayStation 2 BC is a feature.

:)

Even though I slightly prefer the TE button layout (the 6 buttons on the right are lined up in a straight line and not curved), I decided to preorder the HRAP3SA because of PS3 BC and some reports on shoruken.com of TE button problems (bad pcbs?). I've been using the Fighting Stick 3 for a few weeks and it is a decent first stick, but thanks to the Amazon trade in program I got a 50% off coupon and will upgrade to a better stick.

So MarkMan...how about that new stick announcement? What system is it for? Happ or Sanwa? MvC2 or TvC? I'm about ready to buy a custom Happ but will wait if MadCatz is doing something of this nature. Help a brother out and give me some heads up and I'll send my money MadCatz way instead.
