NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

I just ordered a round 2 TE earlier this week. I hope I won't regret it after seeing what CES has to offer. I should have checked this thread first!

Hm, on second look at that teaser pic, the new stick looks very homemade. Hopefully just a rough prototype. I don't know why they changed the TE case. It was perfect.

Yeah, I agree. I'm hoping that when the new sticks launch online retailers will try and dump TE stock and we'll be able to snap them up extra cheap.

Was hoping for more of an evolution of the TE, but oh well. The TE was already a pretty awesome stick.

Looks like an evolution to me. A nice annual upgrade for the new release of the game. Nice that they are starting off with four.

And, I'm likely in the minority but I'm lovin' the colorful buttons on the 360 versions. Probably just an MS mandate but they totally worked for me on the Asian version.

Renders make it look like they got rid of the dark hai, which would've been hot but then the preview pic shows that they still use that over-used color.

Sadly, no rerelease/upgrade of the cheapy SE. :-(

Yeah, it's a shame. My friend has one and I really like the form factor.

I wonder if they just weren't big sellers comparatively... maybe most consumers wanting a stick decided to splurge for TEs. I mean, anecdotally, I have seen way more TEs in the wild than SEs.

I've never seen another person have an SE. My group of friends is small but they all went with TEs. I'm thinking Mad Catz will just let all the original TE stock burn out at sub-$100 for the next few months.

Still, we got the TvC stick!

I swear if I find a 360 TE for $80 or less I'll seriously consider picking one up to swap out with some Seimitsu buttons I have laying around and dual mod it with a ChImp.

I'm with you on that one. I like the color it brings to the stick.

So, is the right stick of the stick flat like the twitter picture shows?

Yeah,

I reckon we should wait for actual photos as those renders seem a bit wack. I think it is going to pay homage to the original TE/Vewlix shape but be a bit more discreet about its original cabinet roots.

Flatter and wider it seems. Need actual pics, now!

My 360 TE stick just came in from Amazon today (Lightning deal for 89.99). I got my HRAP3-SA for the same price on a Lightning deal last month too. I can't wait to give it a go after the football game tonight!

The best part is that I got SFIV from Steam for 9.99 and I've dragged my PC to my living room to play on my 1080p set when I have visitors this weekend. So glad that regardless of platform, both sticks will work with the trusty PC.

Hopefully markman will drop some real pictures on us. I like them so far though.

I like the colours of the 360 stick, reminds me of the virtua stick? (sorry my stick knowledge isn't that good but that sega stick with the coloured buttons)

*edit*

I am thinking of changing around the buttons on my SNES stick so that i don't have to deal with the config screen. Should I, or should I just leave it as is? I'm kinda torn about it. The buttons right now correspond to their labeling on the stick so if I change it up it will be aesthetically weird, but i won't have to go through button config screens.

Not feeling the new TEs. Gotta agree with the person who said they look dated. Plus I'm not really a fan of character art on a stick. One of the best things about the OG TE is that despite being licensed the effect on the art of the stick is still minimal.

I could, however, see myself importing one if they release an Asian version that isn't SF branded and uses white buttons for the non-colored buttons on the 360 version. Improved mic quality and cord storage compartment would also be nice.

I do like that there is no colored bezel, which can clash with custom art, but in the actual photos, it looks like the plexi top hangs over the edge which takes away from the clean, professional look of the current TEs.

Also agree I'm not big on specific character art. The 1st generic TE or more subtle round 2 one looks better. Don't like the colored buttons either.

Hopefully, they get polished up a bit.

Also, any word on if the pads will have hardware (d-pad diagonal) improvements?

Great looking sticks but I'm honestly not compelled to get them right away. Maybe when they go on sale. I'm pretty happy with the current TE, bezel and all, plus the design is closer to the Vewlix panel that inspired it.

Not impressed with the new sticks. Seems like a big step down from the first round sticks, aesthetically. Especially the multi-colored buttons. Looks goofy.

I'll get the black one for PS3 most likely, it has a nice look to it almost look kinda matte on that render :)

Not an issue with the ps3 version...

Don't really like the full plexi look (never liked it on the TE), but I'll wait to see some better pictures. The rest of it looks really nice.

edit: Saw the clearer looking pics, and I think the sticks look nice. However I think they are a bit too square looking without the end caps....wish they would cut the width down a couple inches.

Finally climbed the Namco bandwagon!

Is there any word on a new wave of Fight Pads?
Yes. Ken, Ryu, Juri, and T. Hawk. SSFIV art. Same mold as the old fightpads.
They were outlined in the same TE "S" press release.

How are the MvC2 sticks compared to the SFIV TE sticks? I really just want a customizable stick.

The MVC2 stick is the same build as the SFIV TE stick. The only difference is the color of the buttons, and the art. Just get the cheapest TE you can find.

Cool thanks. I really want the MvC2 stick, but since I want to customize it it would be pretty pointless to buy it. :lol

I wonder if the top panel is removable plexi overlay

poor arthong :(

I hope not. I would imagine that being quite an expensive addition unless the smaller form factor cuts costs significantly enough.

Which reminds me, I need some new art for my stick...
