Yep, that's all you have to do. You open up the stick and take a flat head to the bottom of the stick to keep it from spinning, then just unscrew the ball top and screw in the bat top. I actually have a white bat top I never use somewhere in my house...if you want I can sell that to you.

I don't believe it was me talking about that. Are you talking about the ball tops? Those come in different sizes, but I believe all the bat tops are all one size. Gamingnow.net doesn't sell the 45mm ball tops, but lizardlick does here: http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/joysticks.shtml
No, that post was still directed at Attack You. The link you (RapidCancel) posted showed different battops only colors.

All of those products had '30' in them as I was wondering are they 30mm? Attack You was posting about 45mm battops. In any case, I just need to replace the baltop for a battop. The stick itself is fine, as I was worried I had to replace the whole thing. Thankfully not.

Just post links for battops only, so I know which one to get. I will still try the different positions for the balltop thing, but I know for myself I will buy those battops.

I haven't been able to find anyone who stocks bat top replacements larger than 30mm. If you want larger, you'll have to replace the stick entirely which I'm certain you don't want to do just yet. There's a possibility that the added height of a bat top will be all you need to adjust to the stick better, though. If you're even a little bit curious about the 45mm ball tops, Akihabara Shop has a good variety in stock at the moment. You'll have to scroll down a bit. Unfortunately, none of the shops we linked to are designed for direct links to specific products.

I’m looking to mod my SE stick with TE parts but im not sure which those are so can someone link me to those exact parts that can be found on TE sticks? Thanks.

Hmmm..if you are serious, I'm actually gonna try to make my own during the course of next week. Maybe if it goes well and you are still looking for one by then.

I've bought all the parts since I'm just modding my HRAP3. Right now I'm only in the market for the art. I've got an idea of what I want. Are you doing your own custom art? If you could do mine, I can sketch out what I'm looking for and I can get a price from you.

http://lizardlick.com/

TE sticks come with Sanwa parts. You can choose which buttons and balltop you need. As for the actual stick you're going to have to ask what the part number is on that one.

all right, so I picked up a round 2 TE for $99... the catch is that it's PS3 version.

now, is there a way to mod this stick to work on 360? I believe I read something about a padhack mod (?) but previously all I was hearing is that it's 360->PS3 or nothing :\

Sanwa OSBF 30s

Sanway JLF (specifically JLF-TP-8YT-SK)

And a ball top
http://www.gamingnow.net/lb-35-balltops/sanwa-lb-35

All of those things can also be found at lizardlick.com, but gamingnow is easier to link to specific items

http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/pushbuttons.shtml
http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/joysticks.shtml

I've had no issues ordering from either

How often do you guys replace the springs in the stick?
I ordered a bunch of Sanwa JLF springs because one of my sticks was a bit loose. I've had that stick for about 9 months.

It is possible to go PS3->360 but much harder. You're correct, you need to padhack a 360 pad, which is a complicated process that requires a lot of soldering skill. Tons of useful info here.

How to padhack an 08/09 Madcatz 4716 Common Ground Xbox 360 Pad

The "Padhacking" thread:

Padhacking a Madcatz street fighter fightpad is probably the easiest (but pricey)
http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=179270

If you're ditching PS3 support completely you can just remove all the PS3 guts and wire the 360 pads to the buttons/stick.

If you're dual modding you'll have to solder from the PS3 board to the 360 padhack and then add a DPDT switch for switching the D+/D- lines between the two pads.

so in other words.. I need to sell / trade my PS3 stick for a 360 one, and then mod that one the ez-mode way.

thanks for the explanation and guide for real :D but I do not have the skills for this task haha

Even dual modding the other direction requires a lot of soldering. It is just slightly easier soldering and there is hardware available for automatic switching. I would recommend just getting your fighting games for one platform.

I think I'm going to go ahead and put a purchase order in.

I'm looking for any talented artist to do custom artwork for me.

I have a good idea of what I want and will gladly sketch and outline what my ideas are so I can get input from you. If you think you are up for it, please PM me and I will go into further detail. Yes, I will be paying you. :)

Open it up and make sure the connectors to the button are in place.

They seemed to be inplace, it is working now. Is this from faulty button or the controller itself. Also how do you get the turbo buttons to light up. Cause when I press turbo nothing happens.

Yeah I'm doing my own art. But you'll prob be better off asking someone else...I'm way too picky and it takes me awhile to do the artwork.

The SE buttons crap out fairly easily. As for the turbo, hold the turbo button and then press down on the button you wanna turbo.

Thanks, that helped. So I shouldn't worry it's the controller? Just some bad buttons.

Most the people I know had the SE buttons crap out on them. I switched out all the se stuff for sanwa parts I had laying around the first day and have never had a problem with my stick not registering though. I still use it now and got the stick the first day it came out.

What's new in the SSF4 TE compared to the old one?

Supposedly, a better PCB to stop the random disconnects (which I can attest to), less weight and the plastic thingies on the side being removed. Probably better if you just buy one of the old ones for cheap, unless you're a collector or want the artwork.

SlaughterX, Fry's had a $99 sale for the PS3 round 2 sticks. If they had the Xbox versions, I would've jumped over it.

Edit: looks like it's still going on:

http://www.frys.com/product/6173129

Buy, buy

Thanks, Spidey. I had 2 TEs but just sold one to a friend to "upgrade" (wanted an R2 at first). You sure it's lighter? I want it heavier, if anything. :(

Amazon has the S stick at 9 lbs.

The Type S is almost the same as the normal TE except for the missing plastic sides, which is why the weight is less. I think there's a start/select lock and of course the improved PCB. You could always take advantage of the WCW sale at gameshark.com and buy a Type S.

Just got my Type S...

I think MadCatz quality is starting to drop. This doesnt feel anymore solid then the first.. actually feels like less love was put into it.

I can see the foam ro whatever this white cardboard or paper stuff under the plexi clearly now since the plexi doesnt have a border/cover around it and it looks cheap.

Not to mention I have a few moving parts inside my stick. Stick works but its rattling like crazy.. A few parts are obviously not attached on the inside.

I had 2 normal TE sticks and never had this issue.. but this one.. i dunno seems flimsy.

My personal opinion is that octo-gates are better for no one. The game is clearly designed for a square gate. Some practice and you'll have no problem doing any of Ryu's moves with it.

Oct-gate makes ultras like Guile's and Vega's next to impossible. (if you're in to low tier characters like me.)
I have no problem doing Guile's Ultra or Vegas on a Octo-Gate. And no, the game is NOT clearly design for Square Gates(People do play on pads)People were doing Gesse howards raging storm on Happ sticks back in the day, Same with Vega's and Guile's Super in ST on Happ sticks.

I mean the game was designed for Japanese arcades, which use square gates, as were all of the previous street fighters. The designers were using square gates when they were creating the game.

Grif, wassup man, they friggin' bitched out my man Gen in Super and Makoto also sucks apparently so I guess this means you're Akuma will have to do with T.Hawk. Word is he's solid plus I generally stick with grapplers, just not in vanilla cuz 'Gief was corny as hell to me.

So yeah, I'll see you online soon.

Edit:

Also, for those looking for the SE stick, try and check FYE if you have one around you. I lucked out and snagged a SE for only $60, new, that way (mostly cuz nobody ever buys shit at FYE!)

Thanks.

Use a Flat head screwdriver to secure the clip on the bottom of the entire joystick assembly and spin off the ball top on the opposite side.

Yet the deal just 2 posts above is far superior..

Hey Bob! We need to get you a better way to get ahold of me. :lol I play all kinds of characters but got generally bored w/SF4's choices, but all the SF3/SFA additions look good to me so we'll see how things shake out. Loved Abel's grappling design, but his matches can be painful. Your Hawk can play my DJ now in HDR, though! Well, my 360 have be busted now with scrambled screens...

So my Octo gate came in today. :D

The video guides on youtube said to open it up from the top where the stick is...wow was that wrong/bad idea. I fiddled with those screws trying to find the right size screwdriver head to put in from my tool case forever. By the time I found the one that works the screwed I was experimenting on was screwed up to the point where NO screwdriver worked anymore to get it unscrewed even though the other 5 came out no problem. Finally after giving up on the front after 40 minutes I went and tried the back side. Easy and less hassle. If you ever try to mod your gate open it up from the bottom of the TE stick. Once you open it you are just looking right at the square gate. No moving stuff around, easy 6 screws, and it was less than 1 minute to do it all.

So I took it out for a test run on SF3 with offline GGPO and it IS a lot different. Not going to be able to tell if it was a smart choice or not though until I get my SSF4 since my TE stick is for 360, but my copy of vanilla is on my PS3 to use with my Hori square gate. For whatever reason on GGPO no matter which of my two sticks I've used it seems to have a big problem detecting the right stick movements so I don't bother playing it online. From my testing though I picked up 2 things off the bat:
1) Doing Ibukis air kunai is much smoother and precise.
2) You REALLY have to push your stick all the way into a corner position for you to go there. This means back crouching and diagonal jumps require more finger pushing, but that's why the quarter circle motions come out easy since it rides past corners so you never get stuck in them. Fair trade in my opinion. :)

All in all for 5 bucks it's well worth getting an octo gate if you don't play charge characters to see how it changes up your game on a stick.

From installing it on the bottom.. how long did it take you to do?

I may order me a Octo gate since I mainly use Fuerte. But even charge chars for me probably wouldn't be terrible on an octo gate.

1 minute tops. On the bottom of a TE you will find 6 small screws.(You'll also see 4 large ones, but you don't need to remove those at all.) The 6 little screws are fast and easy to remove.

Once the bottom plate comes off you don't need to move any parts around or anything like that, because you will be staring right at the square gate. You just pull it off, snap on the octo, put the metal lid back on, and screw the 6 screws back in. It'll blow your mind how easy it is. Most youtube video guides want you to open up the top, telling you to be careful on taking the top off so you don't pull the button wiring, etc, but from the bottom the only thing you CAN mess around with IS the gate. I believe the bottom opening way was designed just for the people who only wanted to change square to octo.

The top of the TE has hex screws, no? I installed an LS-32 into my TE a while back, and had no problem opening it up from the top using a M3 size Allen key.

Also, does anyone know of stores in Tokyo with arcade sticks in stock? Do the general game stores have them or are there places in particular that I should look into?

I really want to grab an ASCII stick so I can get that optical Answer joystick. :D

Since gates are so cheap I may just order one to see how it feels.

Even for charge characters the octo can be of real use. I play guile and doing a m.p cancel into fk cancel into super is extremely easy once you know you can just do rotations. Same for ultra, you can just do a 180 degree s rotation and it just comes out if you use the shortcut.

ie : Charge down back, rotate down front, rotate up/back kkk. Ultra's just roll out with a octo gate ;p!

Sorry to hear about your experience. I assure you that they aren't supposed to be like that. I'm guessing it was a loose nut flying around from the hex screws.

Again, if there are any issues, you can always contact tech support, they're fairly good at helping right away. Just call them (not email).

When I went to Tokyo I picked up two of the Dreamcast ASCII Optical sticks... I'd have to say check often and just get lucky. I went to Game Trader in Akihabara and they had a number of hard to find sticks, but the only ones I wanted were the ASCII ones (only 3000 yen each!)...

Oh yea, if anyone cares... the 20-30% off deal on mad catz products ends today.

I am 100% positive I won't be doing another deal until sometime in May. So if you want some new hardware before Super SF4 comes out. Better do it now.

Ends tonight midnight PST.

Promo code for 20% off Super SF4 stuff = SUPERWCWZ
Promo code for 30% off all fighting game stuff = WARZONE

100% agree, both my TE stick I bought are top quality sticks! Very well built. Guess he just had bad luck. Been very satisfied with my purchase! TE sticks are what put madcatz back in the game in a big way!

It's a shame the Premium VLX sticks aren't the proper size of an actual arcade panel. I mean, they obviously weren't designed to be practical so you might as well go all the way.
And a legitimate 2P panel for a modern system would be awesome.

i suck at fighting games because i'm always modding peoples sticks and can never practice. :P

A great write-up! Coming from square gates always, I decided I would see what octagonal paters were all about. I received my fancy new TE S stick from Mad Catz in the mail and quickly popped out the square gate. After playing for a few hours with the octagonal gate, my opinion is this:

I need to get used to it. Since the corners are not as clear as the square gate, I'm having a bit of trouble controlling which screen my Vega flys up to (seem to hit the neutral "up" a little too much, rather than truly feeling my corners on the stick). Like Zlatko, I find the Shoto motions to be much easier to pull off. I'm going to keep the gate in, for this respect, since I am very interested in dualing Juri in Super.

As for the corners comment, Zlatko, I'm always digging into the corners on my sticks. I had a stick on the original Xbox whose corner switches I ruined from all of my Vega motions. :lol It was a cheap stick that I wound up dropping the PCB into a home-built unit, but still...

I'm going to keep the octagonal stick in for a while and see if I can get the feel for it. If not, then it's back to square I go. At least I gave it a go. :D
