NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

I'm a fan of black-rimmed buttons to separate from the artwork, especially given those 2 buttons are "extra" buttons on the face (much prefer 6 on face, myself).

Threi go with D.
I just got an email from from aki shop about a new 3rd party Dreamcast PCB with VMU support called "Dreams PCB". They're probably way late to cash in on the stick craze, what with Marvel 2 no longer being on DC at majors like EVO. I have a ton of arcade ports on my DC, but I only have 1 DC stick. Might be a fun project for me.

And Spiderjericho, do you have any HRAP2s?

Okay, so... I'm confused here...

What's the general fighting-game community's opinion on the extra 2 buttons on an arcade stick? Do you use them for the 3x kicks/punches, or maybe for something else like maybe the focus attack or grab for SSFIV, or do you just shun them?

o.O

There is no general consensus. Binding is allowed at most touneys, and preference differs on a per user basis.

Personally I remove them and plug or cover the holes, or use 6-button controllers like my VSHG.

yeah using it i've grown to hate the 8 buttons, but i don't want to cover them up though.

Currently i just disable them in ssfiv

I remember hearing the announcers on a livestream once saying that some pro players disconnected the button but still used them as a "fake" button for local play. Just smack the button and you opponent hears that you are clicking the button and reacts accordingly when in reality nothing happens. Seems pretty crazy that anyone would have the concentration to be listening to opponent's button presses, but what do I know.

You can really hear when someone is mashing when playing locally. Hell, you can hear/see them moving the stick furiously, too (I know I used to do it a lot back in the 3S days).

Awesome MarkMan, thanks for telling me to wait!

Also, is the consensus that the TE round 2 sticks are the best straight out of the box sticks to get? I don't intend on doing any customizing...

You should really follow my twitter for arcade stick news. ;) The BlazBlue TE sticks are now on GameStop. This is a limited supply from AKSYS Games and Arc System Works. Only 1500 of each one made. Individually numbered too!

http://twitter.com/MarkMan23

Don't forget to use the code 20DOWN (for $20 off) and SAVER (for free shipping)!

I went ahead and ordered one for a little under $120 after tax... only to instantly regret it after scrolling down on this page and seeing that the Round 2 TE sticks would be $100. FUCK! So how much does the Chun-Li stick come out to be after tax? I guess those $100 sticks would still have cost me around $120 after tax and shipping from MadCatz...

edit: ahh, free shipping too, fuck me! Ohh well, $10 for a more exclusive stick is ok, I guess.

Just got both my battops in, and boy holy shit does it make a difference, i just tried em on ssf4, and doing most moves are even more of a breeze for me than the ball top. might try the octogate down the line, but just the battop makes things good enough. gonna try out blazblue:CS with the stick in a bit.

Gah this whole fighting stick thing has become such an obsession of mine lately, despite the fact that I won't actually be able to use one for another month or so (stuck in fucking Afghanistan until then). I probably spend at least 50% of my free time reading about fightsticks instead of talking to my wife or actually doing something productive like playing videogames. I need to order one of these bitches and just get it out of my system. :lol

went with all black buttons, it looks the most visually appealing to me, not quite sure why. I would have stayed with white but the white from the sanwas is different from the white from the stock madcatz buttons, it would have bugged me to hell.

:lol Never gets old

okay I preordered the HRAP2 SA reissue from Horistore through tenso.com, so I'm covered. Thing doesn't come out until December so I figured It's a Christmas gift to myself.

How much did that end up costing you? I've been looking for a PS2 Hori stick.

Well I cancelled my BlazBlue TE stick order and I am going to order the Round 2 stick from Madcatz... probably sometime next week. It comes out to be like $12 cheaper, and I am sure I will regret trying to save that little bit of money when the BB stick isworth twice as much as this other stick. :P

I also bought the TvsC stick for the Wii off Amazon, even though I didn't like the game... I figured why not for $36, might come in handy for other games on the VC later. It should be here tomorrow. :)

I think I am done buying sticks this gen, 3 for the 360, soon to be 2 for the PS3, and 1 for the Wii. I don't even really use the damn things and my company never bothers either, but I enjoy having the option, I guess...

after thinking about it i think i'm gunna redo the SE art...just whether to keep the current template or change it.

I like the art I have on it right now but maybe if I see something I may like it more.

*edit*

like this....

Changed the art on my stick, the template just refuses to print at the right size (its too small now instead of too big, but i made it work).

Can't decide if it's better or worse than my last art, it's just a different style now:

And my name on the stick because i think it's classy/childish as fuck:

And if you didn't notice it in the first two pics, a little thing i put on that art that's intentionally difficult to spot out:

Guys, what's the general opinion on the Qanba RAF3 Stick [Wireless PS3] ? Does it have quality components? And if so, are they easy replaceable?

I'm playing with a couple of FS3 right now, so a piece of wood with two rocks on it would be better than what I have now. I just don't want to make the same mistake again buying generic crap but the problem I'm having is that aside from Play-asia, I couldn't find a store that ship international, and play-asia only has a few (including the Qanba).

Edit: Nevermind. Found a link digging old posts :)

That stick is HOT! I'm actually looking at the Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA. The hands covering the artwork. T_T Always wanted to put custom artwork, if I get that stick.

Ok, fuck it. I just bought two Qanba Q3 Wireless Ps3 sticks from play-asia. Shipping was $130 bones but whatever, I was kinda expecting the shipping cost. Now I'll just have to wait a month :)

I'm not sure either. You're in the middle of a heated match and your right hand slips. Whoops and it hits the start button. Paused the game and the momentum is gone. :lol

That hori is nice, but why the fuck would they put the start button there?!
They're sticking with the layout on actual Vewlix cabinets.

I do agree that it's a goofy choice for a consumer stick, especially if someone opts to use the right 6 buttons or all 8. There's a reason that lock switches on TE S's are a selling point. ^^;

That's so stupid... on the arcade machine, you can't pause so the start button doesn't matter... on a console stick it's just stupid.

New shoes to go with my new stick ;)

Haha, those are awesome. Although I dunno if I would ever wear them in public. Maybe at a SF tourney I guess. :D

Also I decided to just go with the TE and not a custom stick. Took advantage of the MadCatz sale and bagged a TE 'Round 2' stick for 360. Of course, it is being shipped directly to a stick modder to dual mod it for PS3 as well. Perfect timing on this sale. :D

Although, I wish I had known that the TE-S sticks were no longer being produced... I would have bought one of those!
