NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

I am certain that this is a dumb question but this is driving me nuts.

The ball top on my sanwa stick keeps spinning lose while I'm playing; is there any way to stop this from happening? It's impossible for me to tighten it without opening the stick so once it happens once, it happens repeatedly until the next opportunity I get to open the stick.

If you have the cover on the shaft then you're going to have to open 'er up. Otherwise just grab a pair of pliers to keep the shaft in place while you tighten the balltop.

The problem isn't so much that it's happened once, it's that it's happened *repeatedly* and in places where I can't really open it up (IE in tournaments).

Sanwa JLW is also pretty stiff as well.

LS-32 though is probably the best "multipurpose" stick out currently.

You can also try inexpensive Loctite which will "fuse" it on. Be warned that it is pretty powerful so you will likely have to use a releaser if you ever want to change the balltop down the line.

It's about the same price, the stock parts are better (I've owned and used both) and when the parts DO finally wear out or you end up wanting real parts anyway, it's actually moddable without having to use a soldering iron or anything.

I wouldn't recommend it. It's an okay entry level stick but myself and other posters have experienced faulty PCBs, where stop registering in pairs. The SE stick in the post above is twice the price of the $20 Hori, but still the best you'll get under $100 MSRP stickwise.
 
Can anyone attest for how 'blue' the Sanwa dark blue is? I'm planning on making a stick based off school colours. Some shots it looks straight up purple, others not so much. Some shots violet looks a lot closer.

The dark blue is indeed dark blue. The violet is more like a dark pink than a purple.
 
I'm interested in changing the art on my Mad Catz TE-S stick. Is there a one stop shop for stick templates? I see some designs on SRK that I really like, but I don't see links available for them so I'm I'd appreciate if someone could provide a link with templates so I could look for something.

Oh and I'm sure someone will tell me to create my own art. The problem is that I have no artistic skills and I've never used photoshop before, ever. I may give it a shot though, but some advice would be nice.
 
Hey guys. I told my friend that I want to get an arcade stick for Christmas, but I don't know which one to get. I've never had one before, so I don't want one of those intense $150 ones. His budget is 35-60 bucks. I need something that is good for newbies and is durable. I'll mainly be using it for my 360 shmups and mayyybe some fighting games, but I really don't play them much. (Probably some BB:CS and MvC3 when it comes out)

Is this pretty much the best choice?

Yes, probably the best stick under $100 MSRP
mod-friendly if you choose to go down that road too.

there's no one stop shop but tek-innovations.com comes closest, nobody is going to be selling art they can be sued for over copyright. they've got a template you can download and stick your art in with instructions. They'll print, laser cut your art and even give you the button holes if you want to stick them into seimitsu buttons and get your a plexi panel to cover the art with.

So I have an ASCII Flash stick I ripped out of a Dreamcast stick, and I've tried to mount it on my modded HRAP1 (that has a plexi cover). The shaft seems a little too short so I'm wondering if there's anyone that has a suggestion for this.

It's a hell of a deal, for sure; especially if you have someone that wants to go halves on the purchase (you keep a stick and they get a stick).

My only complaint about the TE stick was probably due to my particular situation. The couch in my living room is that weird microfiber suede that is a freakin' static machine when the air's dry. I ended up having to crack open the stick and do that grounding mod someone posted on SRK a while back; buttons kept becoming unresponsive after extended play.

SE stick has a metal top and bottom plate too. Most commercial sticks do. I think a wooden custom stick would probably be the only other way to get around that.

I can only assume that my original request was ridiculous, otherwise I'd have gotten a response... so here's a new one. I apologize for being a complete newb.

If I merely want to replace the parts in the MadCatz TvC stick with full Seimitsu, should I start by ordering one of these? Does anyone feel that there is a significant difference between the 32 and the 32-01? And, is there a functional difference between the 30mm and 35mm tops (as in, one won't work), or is it just a matter of preference? I can't figure out which is used in the HRAP EX-SE.

Use the LS32-01 because it's essentially the same thing, drops in easily and you can still use the wiring harness included in the TvC. Get a 30mm balltop, the 35mm feels big to me, but you may or may not care. 30mm is the standard size you'll find on any Japanese sticks, including on the stock parts in the TvC stick.
 
picked up a couple of the walmart madcatz sticks,

I was going to do full seimitsu but i got the wrong mounting plate so completion is going to have to wait, also lamilabel really sucks.

btw...it is possible to put seimitsu microswitches in sanwa buttons right? The oversensitivity is starting to annoy me, and I still have the 6 seimitsu 24mm buttons from my SNES stick, I could just swap them.
 
My Tekken 6 Hori stick just killed over on me and I need a replacement for the mean time...would this be a good substitute?
