I'm looking to buy a stick so I can play all of my PS1 and PS2 Street Fighter collections on my PS2 proper-like. Any recommendations on what I should be looking for and where I can buy it? I'm not a DIY guy for this kind of stuff, so I just want to get the finished thing and be done with it. :lol

The Tekken5 Ultimate Collector's Edition contains what appears to be the equivalent of a Hori Real Arcade Pro, and since it was released widely in the US, it's a little bit easier to find.

It probably uses Hori buttons as opposed to Sanwa, so it wouldn't be as high quality out of the box as the HRAP 2 SA, but if you can't find one of those this is a decent choice.

Another alternative: I can't vouch for the quality but arcadeshock.com seems to sell a lot of arcade-quality sticks, many with American-style parts. Several of these are compatible with PS2 and are in stock there. (Now I'll ask out of curiosity... anyone here ever use any of them?)

I don't know why I find shopping for joysticks to be so exciting, heh...

By this point, it seems safe to say that the 360 is the console to own for current-gen shmups. I can't verify this, but I hear rumors that Sony still won't allow pure 2D games on disc... and even if they do, the 360 is cheaper to develop and release for...important when you're on a low budget like they are. Anything is possible in the long run but I wouldn't assume that Cave will ever publish on PS3. =(

Yeah, but if you look at that recently translated article on shmups it made it look like the developers are seriously looking into moving into PS3. And the G-Rev port will test the waters in spring. Things like Deathsmiles IIX and the new Otomedius have a chance at getting ported. Guess I'm a bit selfish but I want to use all my cool PS3 sticks for shooters on the PS3, and see neat shooter sticks get released for the system.

(built in region-free, too)

I'm with you on this. The other thing is that even if Sony won't allow a disc release for them, they could always do a PSN release like Aksys did for Agarest, even if it's $30 or more. I'd be there day one.

That and we got a trio of doujin games already with more to come (it seems).

Feels like an EX2 in an HRAP shell.

The good part is that you can pretty much drop in an LS-33 or JLF (after drilling the gate) and desolder the buttons to put snap-ins in.

It's a tiny bit of work, but still less work than modding an EX2 (which I've also done and hated doing).

I just got my new buttons in and installed them thanks to _dementia's help. The new buttons work perfectly and fix the dead button problem I was having. Thanks so much for the help GAF!

With the new buttons I actually won 3 SSFIV matches in a row. It's gotta be the shoes.

Man, that HRAP3 SE is so pretty. Kinda totally forgot about that one! We need shooters to come to PS3 in 2011. Hopefully companies begin to develop them for that system next year. I'd love to see Cave PS3 packaging.

Good luck to anyone finding one of these now!

I pre-ordered mine through Akihabarashop.jp long before they hit street date. Hori supposedly produced well under 1,000 of the 3 SE's and they're gone from stores.

JapanVideoGames had a few of these last year but they didn't sell out until they cut their prices from $299 to $199.

In all honestly, the easiest (and much cheaper at this point!) way to get a Seimitsu Hori Grade-A SE is to remove all the Sanwa parts and buy Seimitsu replacements for a 3 SA model. Sell your low-mileage, slightly used Sanwa parts to partly defray the new hardware costs. One thing that helps is that occasionally you come across someone who wants to trade an LS-32-01 for a JLF. I got lucky recently and got an LS-32-01 for an unwanted but perfectly good JLF in exchange!

I've gotta admit I didn't leave my HRAP 3 SE in stock condition. I modded the LS-32-01 that came with it with an additional spring, modded JLF-CD shaft cover to prevent metal corrosion, and I removed the original ball handle to replace with a red Sanwa ball handle. I also took out all the original buttons and sold them online with the original ball handle. After some months in storage with a bunch of button holes, I installed PS-15's (same shades as the original PS-14-G buttons) and two OBSF-24's, white with black rims (I swapped plungers between two sets of OSBF-24's). I basically have the original color scheme but with an offset redder (cherry red IMHO) ball handle. No question Seimitsu's red is actually vermillion. Buttons are a bit harder than OBSF-30's which they resemble closely but I like the rounder look of the PS-15's better than the PS-14-G's... And the plungers don't get stuck on the rims like the PS-14-G's did occasionally!

The 3 SE is an attractive stick wit that color combination, no doubt. I liked the look so much that I emulated it on my HRAP 3 SA... Removed all its buttons and JLF and sold them online. With the cash I bought from selling parts, I bought 6 buttons to replace what I couldn't afford before. The JLF I had swapped for the LS-32-01 I mentioned earlier. Now, the HRAP 3 SA looks like a cousin of the 3 SE!

P.S. -- To be honest, I like the V3 SA case better than the Astrocade style used in the SA/SE lines.

I would not be surprised if within the next year Hori does a run of V3 SE joysticks!

Unfortunately, it will probably be another low production run...

The best part of the HRAP 3SE is the freakin' box!

Man it is so beautiful. The BLACK/RED actually inspired me when we were conceptualizing the Team Mad Catz shirts...

Yeah, super super pretty. I got one a couple years back but totally forgot about it! Never used it, there was nothing to use it for. The big Hori I'm missing is the HRAP EX SA. Like, no way to get it back then so a big hole in my collection. They go up on Yahoo Japan sometimes but that whole process is difficult since I don't speak japanese. The 360 sticks are my favorite because of the stock colorful buttons...even the Mad Catz 360 sticks look better, imho. I've a feeling that Radiant Silvergun is gonna be hard to get next year and that bums me out. I've got all the shooter sticks so I can't miss that one...I just can't!

Boo... since every current non-SE HRAP uses a JLF I assumed that the T5 stick would use one too... the soldered parts are a bummer also. Gah, I guess I now know not to recommend that stick!

I just read the info on Korean joysticks at the beginning of this thread... very interesting.

I am absolutely beginning to understand why MarkMan and others have large joystick collections. =)

So I'm trying to put a medium spring mod on my Sanwa stick, but getting the e-ring off is proving to be difficult. Any tips on getting it off from someone that has done this before?

Finally got around to ordering some black obsf-30's and a JLF-TP-8YT-SK for the ps3 fight stick I got on the wal-mart deal.. $65 all told for a full sanwa stick, i'm pretty pleased. Of course by the time I get the buttons out, I might as well replace the art... but man, planning around buttons and a joystick is hard. There's not a lot of real estate on the SE, and let's face it, I'm bad at arts.

Still, excited to finally be getting my hands dirty modding a stick.

contrary to popular belief pictures of characters aren't the best thing to put on a stick.

You can make it work if you try though. I suggest using simple designs over anything.

Also, to completely contradict what I just said, here is a cammy TE template I made:

I posted in the shmups thread but I wanna let folks here know as well.

NCS sent me an email that they will, indeed, be offering the Radiant Silvergun stick for preorder sometime over the next week! So if you are looking for that one then check their website each day around 3:30 eastern. Shit is going to be pricey, though.

So, I've been currently working on getting all my stuff together for when my Custom Kray Vewlix I'm buying off of Kray arrives at the end of the month or in January. I made a cabinet recently at our work.....and it took forever, so I'm paying him to handle all my paint work.

I ended up scoring 2 of the PS360 pcbs for the cab, and got my JLF stick led wired up along with the buttons (2 leds will be on all ways, and 4 turned on when pressed). The stick led will always be on as well.

I finished the art for the Control panel, the command list panel, and the marquee. They are actually being silkscreened on a lexan plexi with back light film. I just ordered a custom cut EL Panel for the control panel so it will also be back lit as well.

should be sweet once everything gets into place. here are picks of the art.....let me know what you guys think?

I went a different route in terms of the art being in my own style.....but with some gamer influences. (akuma/gouken fireball art....with ryu dragon punching the side.)

The colors were based of of the marvel versus capcom 3 scheme.

Anyway I'll post more as my cabinet slowly starts to come together. Kray is the man...glad he could hook me up. :)

i pushed mine off with a screwdriver, careful though that thing will shoot off

I ended up using a pair of needle-nose pliers to get it off, but thanks for the tip!

Also a stronger spring is awesome! My SE is hardly recognizable right now with a new stick, new buttons, and a stronger spring. :D Art is still stock, but just because I'm too indecisive to pick any art.

Well heres my 2 babies

2010-12-24133048.jpg

First is the PS3 stick, which is TE-S with all the buttons replaced with new sanwa's to better match the color scheme then the old black Ryu background. I also added the bezel and a plexi from Tek-Innovations. Lastly I decided to use a bat top and a octo-gate. This one is meant to be different and give me a chance to use something with a completely different feel. Also, I'm betting nobody will want to borrow my stick for tournaments once they see what I've done to it lol.

And the 2nd of course it none other then the Hori VLX for Xbox 360. The local guys have been bugging me to get one because they're all on Xbox while I alone was on PS3. So I finally cracked and got one, and decided "what the hell, might as well go all out". Besides the buttons(which I plan to change to all whites), I'm not going to change anything else like I did with my PS3 stick. I want to keep everything the same like a traditional Japanese stick. Plus the thing is like piece of art to me and you just don't go and change(the design) something like that.

So that's that, I'm not liking the look on my credit card balance though. February can't come soon enough because I want that income tax check to wipe out the debt I'm in right now :lol

dunno about america but here in Canada the TvC stick is $20 new at gamestop.

That is a great price for a stick with really good stock parts. Just slap a PS360 PCB in there and you're set :D

Seems to be Canada only

TvC stick is phenomenal. I honestly can't tell it's not Sanwa while playing.

I lost my HRAP EX's USB extender cable. Does anyone know where to get a replacement? The extender cable is actually necessary to plug in the unit to the 360.

Ok, I can directly upload pics now. Here are the two pieces my girlfriend did. The second one (Chubby Chun-li) I'm not installing until I get back home and can put it on an original TE with white sides.

I believe the Xbox 360 controller breakaway cables are universal, so check if you can find replacement ones on ebay.

My SE was giving problems (the cable was frayed internally from too much bending) so I i went to fix it...decided what the hell might as well rewire the entire thing.

After i cut and disconnected a lot of the stuff I realized my soldering iron broke.

Anyways got a new one today, I scrapped my rewiring project and just resoldered it and put in some cable ties.

Also bought some DPDT switches just in case I want to dual mod it in the future :)

Are the Pelican PS2/PS3 adapters still a hot commodity? I have one I bought with a Street Fighter Anniversary stick, but I decided I'm just going to gut it and try my hands at just wiring it up with a 360 pad, so I don't really need it anymore. If it's still fetching enough to buy myself some parts, I'll sell it.

Ugh, having order trouble

So I ordered buttons and a stick from Lizardlick, and I had them shipped them out usps to my office.

Well, lo and behold, the postal service is largely incompetent, and my package, which says delivered, is totally not with me. I've gone on a long series of wild goose chases only to determine that nobody in that building has seen my package, even though it should have come directly to me.

tl;dr my USPS package tracking says delivered, i don't have it.

Anyone have any tips for dealing with something like this? I imagine lizardlick is a pretty small company so they can't just eat the costs and send me another package or refund me like a bigger site might, but do they have any clout with usps since it was a package from them that I never received? USPS has been pretty consistently rude and giving me the runaround, so I don't know who the hell to go to to get things straight.

Don't know if it helps Cowie but I've had packages lost in the mail by Canada Post and they are useless. If the courier delivers the package whether its signed for or not, it's tough luck for you. I suppose USPS is similar so I would suggest contacting Lizard Lick asap and see if they will reimburse you or send another order, with any luck if LL insured the package they can open a claim with USPS to get reimbursed. Hope that helps.

Very clean Threi, good job. :)

wanted to thank u guys for the sf4 fight stick (the inexpensive one) recommendation. Got 2 and they're great fun the buttons are a lil mushy tho, I'll hafta look into a button mod down the road. The actual stick feels good quality to me what do you guys think of it? Watching that youtube button mod for it and the guy is trashing the stick part of it sayin it sucks:lol

Elixist,

You'll want to be replacing the joystick down the line, too...

There are good reasons why the stock parts get trashed in reviews. The base itself is fine -- cross your fingers the PCB doesn't go bad -- that happens, too -- but upgrades with real arcade parts are not a bad idea.

The Mad Catz joysticks are among the nicest case designs on the market. Like most joysticks that get used a lot, they'll break at the worst possibly time unless you have the better parts or higher-grade joysticks like the TE lines.

I never liked the OEM parts on any stick I bought unless they were comparable to Sanwa or Seimitsu. Those Hori and Mad Catz buttons are generally horrible. You can used to the OEM joysticks on the lower grade Hori and Mad Catz stick platforms but in the long run if you keep using these controllers you really want upgrade to higher quality parts.

That's why a lot of people don't buy the Hori FS sticks or Mad Catz SE's. It's cheaper to find TE's and HRAP SA's on sale online and just get the Sanwa parts to begin with.... unless you're a Seimitu fan in which case you SHOULD be prepared to pay a lot more to customize your joystick! There just aren't many joysticks that come with Seimitsu parts installed. Their product just isn't as popular as Sanwa's.

Cool George, thx for info man, I was thinkin about gettin a tournament edition, but these were cheap and shit so you get what you pay for I guess . That would suck too replace stick and buttons only to have the pcb break.
