Anyway if I gather things correctly the HRAP EX-SE has a Seimitsu LS-32, which I guess is a bit stiffer and has a smaller deadzone than whatever Sanwa stick is in the SF4TE (JLF)? Well, ok but how would you say this translates into real world use, am I going to have to break my arm of using the HRAP or something?

Just press Home + L to switch the L and R buttons to digital instead of the default "analog" and it'll work without having to make a column dead.

Mapping is still weird on the PS3, but not really a problem with remapping in-game.

I second this, and I'd imagine many others would as well. Here's a review I wrote on it:

I didn't know as much about sticks then as I do now (I now know what a Sanwa lever feels like, I've now owned a SFIV TE, and I also know that the EX-SE's lever is soldered, boo), but I stand by what I wrote. It still is the best unmodified stick I've ever owned. And I LOVE the LS-32 series. There are three of them installed within my apartment right now, and I'm ordering another today. =) So put those second thoughts away and just enjoy the stick when it arrives!
 
Really having trouble with my Street Fighter IV TE stick. I finally pulled it out of the box last night and tried playing through Arcade mode. Couldn't pull off a Ryu fireball 80% of the time. Several times while walking back / blocking, I would suddenly start jumping back instead. Is the square gate really superior to the rest?

I know I'm not used to it yet but if my ability to pull off one of the simplest moves went backwards, I'm thinking of changing out the gate. I'm definitely no expert with modifying (I wouldn't know the first step) or the lingo but with the stick being so loose, are there any better options?
 
I'm unsure of your level of stick experience, but: if the looseness is the big problem, I'd recommend a Seimitsu LS-32-01 lever...they're the opposite of loose. If you feel like the gate might be the bigger issue, ordering a GT-Y gate is cheap and easy (LizardLick is OOS right now...a few days should fix that problem).

Installing either is very easy, requiring just a screwdriver, some time, and perhaps the ability to look up tutorial pics/videos. =)
 
Thanks guys, after I wrote my last post I got sick and tired of the whole thing so I went to bed and forced myself to sleep. When I woke this morning the stick had shipped, so problem solved ;)
 
It's a better idea to learn how to use a stick before going out and changing parts. It's not an easy transition if you're used to pads. Practice makes perfect.

Swap out the square for an octogonal one. Think of it as a training wheel thing.

Also, it takes 5 minutes. I never touched a stick before and I did it, no problem.

Yeah, come to think of it... you could consider replacing either the gate or the entire stick, but perhaps try to use what you've got at least until you figure out whether the problem is the looseness or the gate.

I'll practice a bit more with the one I have until MvC3 comes out. If I'm still not comfortable, I'll look at swapping.
 
Yeah. Never having actually played the SSF4 style TE sticks, is there a reason why other games seem to stick to the old style TE stick? Are the SSF4 style sticks less comfortable? More expensive to produce?

I'm selling my baby today and need a (smaller) replacement ASAP. Thinking SE, but the build quality on my TE left a lot to be desired (rusted screws that never came in contact with hand/enviro moisture, loose nut in the middle/bottom, scratch prone plastic etc.). So I'm hesitant to buy another that I know is of even lesser quality. I have a bunch of Sanwa buttons, octagonal gates, aluminum bat tops etc., so whatever I get, I'd like it to accommodate the parts I already have.

Any recommendations?
 
I feel silly asking it here, but based on the OP I couldn't find much information about what the best entry-level fighting stick is. There is a big amount of modding information though. :-P

I've gathered that you would either want to get the Mad Catz TE or the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 to have a nice feeling stick.

Would it be a good idea to go for either one depending on which I find cheaper?
I'm planning on playing MvC3.

I'm in Germany so I probably have to get one from ebay or play-asia.

To me, both sets feel similar to one another, but different than the Seimitsu buttons that came pre-installed in my HRAP EX-SE. They also make a different sound when pressed. The ones in the EX-SE make a much louder sound (hard to describe, but I want to say "hollow"). I ordered another set of PS-14-G buttons from LL and it arrived yesterday. These buttons look and feel the same as the buttons pre-installed in my EX-SE.

Upon closer inspection of both the buttons and the specs on LL's site, it would appear that when I ordered Aqua Blue PS-14-Gs awhile back, I didn't actually receive PS-14-Gs. What I got seems to be a snap-in version of the PS-14-GNs...the feel and shape are the same. I'm happy with these buttons anyway, but if someone is looking to order PS-14-Gs because of the shape or feel, I figured it wouldn't hurt to make you guys aware of this.

It is, and it's a great stick, but unfortunately
1) it's not smaller, and
2) the LS-32 is soldered in, so if you'd prefer a Sanwa lever you'll need to get the tools out.

The SE *is* a great choice if you plan to replace the stock parts anyway, but the 360 version is getting harder to find/more expensive at the moment. The PS3 version is still inexpensive at Amazon.

As mentioned above, SE is not bad at all.

If you're looking for something else and you're feeling adventurous I'd recommend an Agetec DC stick and modding it for modern consoles. It has quite a lovely sized, well-constructed shell.
 
one of the comments on SRK (yeah i know) put it best:

"the price [of the TvC stick] going down due to perceived inferiority is nothing but a win for me."

Thanks for the recommendations. Looks like I'll cop an SE then. They're a lot cheaper. I didn't find the TE to be worth the extra $$.
 
I guess people forgot when other gaming companies used the same arcade stick body for 5+ years before changing it.

The TE has only been around 2 years.

At least step up the build quality, better materials etc. I had a number of issues with my TE-S in that dept.

When you get the arcade stick right, no reason to change the design. Just curious why use the Round 2 TE design instead of the S style since the MvC2 used Round 1 design.

Good idea for the graphic, but making collages out of different styles is always a bad idea and this is a bad example why.

Im also tired of the TE shape, something new would be better.

Ether way, I hope it sells well.
 
hey got a problem with my SE.
I replaced the stick and buttons with Sanwa and after a little while of playing, the kick buttons go out.

What do you think the problem is? Doesn't seem like they're getting loose but I always just push the connectors back in just in case and it'll work again for a few games.

Anyway to get them tighter? or should I replace anything?

Do more than one of the kick buttons stop working at the same time?
Is it the same button(s) every time, or does it differ?
Are you making sure that you slid the plastic cover(s) over the quick disconnect(s) once you reconnected the button(s)?
If you post the answers to these questions, maybe we can get a better idea of what's going on.

Regarding the MvC3 TE:
I wonder if the hate for the SFIV Round 2 case simply stems from the fact that people just aren't big on that shape. I know it hasn't been overused; I just am really not big on those corners. I feel like they make the stick seem bigger and bulkier than it is...which some might like, but I do not. I haven't seen the new SSF4 TE-S stick in person so I can't judge for sure whether I like that shape better, but based on photos it looks more appealing to me.
Also, I can't help but wonder about the possibility of the 5000 units selling out. I could guess several reasons why this might not happen... and as many of you know, the BlazBlue TE is still available and easy to find.

1) If the TE sticks were throwaway junk, maybe more would sell as replacement... but because they're so durable and use good, replaceable parts, most gamers don't need more than one. Even if every button broke at once, it'd be cheaper to just replace the buttons.
2) If you play fighting games seriously enough to warrant spending $100 or more on a TE, there's a good chance you already bought one (or an HRAP).
3) It is common knowledge that other models (like the vanilla SF4 R2 TE) have the same shape and the same parts, yet are cheaper.

Of course I don't wish for any product to be a flop (unless it shouldn't be on the market in the first place). But I feel that the asking price is too expensive considering the above factors.
 
The MvC3 stick is fine, I was just kind of hoping it would be different enough to justify yet another stick, whereas it's basically like my round 2 with a mvc3 decal on it. As an owner of several TEs already I know i'm probably not the target audience, but if madcatz targed me and people like me they might sell more sticks!
