hehe, nice MarkMan, very impressed! keep up the good work ar MC, and keep on pushing the retail arcade stick scene even futher!

Rollie Electronics and Happ are planning to release a kit that will let you convert a Sanwa JLF into an optical stick that is nearly identical to the Sanwa Flash.

Pretty slick. Between this kit and Toodles' Spark, it's nice that people are getting the option of optical sticks without having to pay through the nose for one of the discontinued models. I have a Namco stick modded with an ASCII optical and it's definitely very different from playing on a clicky microswitch stick, but if you get used to it I can see why some would prefer the silent operation.
 
No copyright issue with their flash and sanwa? Even something that matches the holes for the tp-ma they could go for if they were highly litigious I guess. . . but then I guess they're ok with it since you can't buy a sanwa stick without the TP-MA except from Akihabarashop but then theres all the postage fees making buying single items pointless for the end user when they can buy a sanwa stick for about the same price local.

I know a few Ivy players who prefer optical so you can't hear them buffering SS/CS.
 
Yeah I've been wanting to get a toodles spark for awhile may wait and see how these pan out and make my choice later. I much prefer the silence and already have a stiffer spring in my jlf(and a circle gate).

I don't think I can comment on specifics but they're good. I'll wait and see if I can chat about it.
 
Just bought my first TE (MVC2) from an SRK member. I'm keeping my sanwa modded SE to see if i con friends into picking up fighting games.
 
The closest place that has anything even close to a scene is around 40 or 50 miles away.

Anyhow, it's fun to play what i can and i love following the community.

I also has dat sickness, took a hold of me after I got my 2nd stick. It moved through my blood stream slowly, but now it that it as a hold of me there is no recovering from it. So far I have 3(MCZ TE-S, Hori VLX, Qanba Q4 RAF) and am planning on getting the Korean version of the Joytron EXchanger whenever it becomes available on Laugh's etokki site. I have to start hiding this stuff or my family will think I'm going nuts.

I've lost count myself. I must be in the teens by now.

My problem is the number of older systems I still actively play. Makes me want to track down old sticks too.
 
I've lost count as well. Mainly because my sticks are spread out in a few different countries. I know I've got more than fifty but probably close to sixty. Guess I'll get to a hundred eventually.

Really excited about all the new ones that are coming next year. Wanna get another eightarc since those are quite pretty.

Always hoping for more shooter sticks but I've a feeling that ship has long sailed. No Under Defeat stick :-(
 
Just got a Brawlstick from Amazon.co.uk and Gzoop for my PS3.
They have the stick in stock now for £22.97 for PS3 and 360, less than 10 left.
Seems they have the PS3 version cheapish at amazon.com as well for about $37.

Don't know if it's been mentioned before in this thread, but the PS3-version seems to work for PC as well. Just played Jamestown with it.
Haven't tried Mame yet.

As I understand it's easy to mod. As a newbie, if I were to mod it, what parts should I replace or improve? any guides for this stick?
Any way I can replace the artwork?

And since this year is almost over and we got a ton of releases I'm curious if other GAFers would nominate.

My choice is the Namco TE. Nothing last year is as elegant, and it is my favorite Mad Catz product. And it is a nice formal introduction to a hopefully long-range relationship between the two companies:

Honorable mention goes to the tiny Sanwa Exaprize...one, for being the smallest full-featured stick released in a long while and, two, a nice color scheme with its funky bright buttons combined with the faux brushed-metal plate. And, six buttons are nice feature when everything comes with eight:

The Madcatz is nice, but like most retail products, it's gimped by the meddling of lawyers. Therefore, I'd nominate the Quanba Q4 as retail ASOTY.

Is that stock Seimitsu?

I got one a bit ago but never really used it. The other sega saturn official stick it truly garbage, though (the gray and NA black version).

My new year resolution (arcade stick-wise) is to get into the Qanba/eightarc stuff. They seem to be everybody's new favorites.
