crowphoenix said:About a week ago, I picked up the Hori Ps3 Stick, because I felt myself jonesing for a little fighting action. And for the first week I've had it, it has worked beautifully. However, the only game I was playing was Tekken.
Now, tonight, I was given Capcom Fighting Evolution as a gift, and as it'd been a long time since I'd played a Capcom fighting game, I decided I'd brush up in training. Problem is, when I pressed the L1 button, which is 3P, nothing happened. 3K worked fine, but no 3P. I even exited the game and tried in another (Spyro), but that game wouldn't register the L1 button either.
So, what i want to know is whether or not there is anything I can do about this to fix it, or if one none functioning button will ruin my experience. Not having L1 for Street Fighter or Tekken is no big deal. And I can easily work around it for Soul Caliber. Any big names or fun games this would hinder?
Thanks.

There's a picture there if anyone needs to see the placement.

spoon! said:There's probably a problem with the a) soldiering, b) microswitch or c) pcb, ordered in descending likelyness.
See if you can open it up and check if the wired connection to that button is soldiered on properly (I'm assuming soldiering because I doubt the HFS3 uses quickdisconnect plugs). There should be two cables connected to each button. Its not impossible for the soldiering to break away when you essentially have a peripheral that you're bashing on with the force of thor all the time. If it is the soldiering then you'll need to find a way to resecure the cable to the button connection, the best would be re-soldiering it.
If its a microswitch problem, then the best you can do is to swap it out for one of the most useless buttons, which in the end means you're gonna have to re-soldier the cables to it. R2 would be my pick.
If neither of those work out then its most likely a pcb problem and you're best off returning it for a replacement.
As far as usefulness goes, not having L1 would kill any 6 button fighter, which is a lot of them. Unless you're happy with playing 6 button fighters using R1/R2 instead of L1/L2 (which I'd imagine would be really freaking WEIRD AND UNCOMFORTABLE), you're gonna want to get it replaced or fixed unless you don't play any sort of Street Fighter 2, 3 or Guilty Gear, off the top of my head. KOF should be o-k
That's my 2c, anyway.

I think Sanwa obsf-30s are a direct fit for HRAPs. I usually keep mine switched to digital.CcrooK said:I just got a HRAP3 stick and completely loving it. My only mini complaint is the buttons. They feel...eh. Too soft? Not sure. Any recommendations of some real good button replacements? Games I play are Tekken, GG, Street Fighter, VF, Soul Calibur.......well. Just about all of them. The joystick has a great feel to it. Just the buttons I'm a bit off on.
Edit: Oh. And is it best to leave the option of digital or analog on?
I'm using a modded HRAP2, so I don't use the L buttons either. Infact, my L buttons arn't even installed anymore :lolviewtiful_dru said:What button layout do you have on your stick? I never use the L buttons on any stick I use (SF AC stick, HRAP 3, hori T5). Usually games default controls to X, O, Square, Triangle, R1 and R2. I think he'll be fine until he finds replacements.
Oh shit that's right, what stick did I think it was :lolviewtiful_dru said:oh, my fault.
Fighting stick though, ewwww.
don't those have the buttons soldered to the pcb?
it is... i actually never noticed it until you just stated it:lol ... its a lolipop stick and i prefer to hold them between middle and ring finger. Like holding a wine glass.QuinTron5000 said:So I just picked up the Hori Fighting Stick EX2 last night, and I have a quick question about it, as I'm new to the world of arcade sticks. I noticed that the stick actually spins in place (not just the ball on top, but the whole stick). I tried playing a couple rounds of SFII with it and it just felt awkward to me. Is this par for course with these sticks, or is my stick borked? If it is normal, would swapping out the stick fix that? I've never used a stick for home consoles, but picked this up to play SFII and III and possibly VF5 if I ever get around to picking it up, but I just want to know if the spinning stick is something I should get used to.

i would like to spend about $100 but might splurge up to $150, pretty sure id go with a 360 stick since it also works on windows and more then likely will be able to find adapters for other systems easier
would like something custom but not sure if thats out of my price range, like i said im a complete novice here but would like something nice to start out
Bonerville High said:Oh dear sweet god how is this stick only 50 bucks, I've been looking for something to play VF5 with on my PS3. I see on that info sheet that it doesn't work with PS2 games, but I see some of you are playing SF3 with this stick? So, can you or can't you plug it into the PS3 and play PS2 games with it?
I also see CcrooK put in Sanwa buttons, this is something I'm definitely interested in...was it hard, or do they just pop in? Once you did this are you completely pleased with the quality of the joystick and buttons?
Finally, since it is USB can I hook it up to my computer and play with it on there?
I am so ready to buy this, thanks for any answers.

As far as backwards compatibility goes, I heard it sometimes is buggy. Weird.
As far as the Sanwa swap, they snap right in. But the question is quick disconnects or soldered?
For the PC question, yeah, that works straight outta the box, I got a friend of mine a HRAP3 and it's works like a charm on PC straight away. Also was easy to swap the buttons![]()
The EX2 stick for 360 is. It works just fine and is great for the price. 60 bucks.DaCocoBrova said:I keep wanting to pick up VF5 again (had the PS3 version...seriously) but keep reminding myself of the mess that is the 360's d-pad.
What is the stick to get for the 360? It would need to work as good on the PC as well.
