I have some free time so I checked my recommendations list again and here are my thoughts.

1. [NWU] The Wonderful 101 (Action)
I only tried the demo but this game doesn't seem to be my type of game. Sounds good tbh.
2. [PS3] The Last of Us (Horror)
I know its unfair to compare this with Uncharted, but after Uncharted 3, I think I already have an idea on how this will play out. These games typical aren' my type of games too.
3. [360][PS3] Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Action)
Not really big into action games.
4. [PS3][PSV] Dragon's Crown (Adventure)
I have a love-hate relationship with Vanillaware so pass on this one.
5. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Simulation)
I've only played Wild World, whenever I played I'm kinda restricted since it was my sisters town so I can barely do anything without asking her first. I kinda enjoyed it, my main obstacle for the series is time commitment though.
6. [NWU] Pikmin 3 (Strategy)
After trying out Little Kings Story, I think I have an idea on how the Pikmin games play and they don't seem to be my type of games.
7. [3DS] Bravely Default (RPG)
Why the fuck did the US not get this game last year?! Why isn't it Feb 7 yet
8. [NWU][3DS] Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Adventure)
I keep on trying to get into the monster hunting genre but I can't. Not because of mechanics, but because the game design heavily encourages multiplayer, and none of my friends play them. And no, local > online multiplayer, I want to be in the same room with the players I'm playing with.
9. [360][PS3] Grand Theft Auto V (Adventure)
Never been a fan of the GTA series
10. [360][PS3][PC] BioShock Infinite (FPS)
I've played Bioshock 1&2 and enjoyed them, but I'm typically not into fps.
11. [PS3] Disgaea Dimension 2 (RPG)
I wish I can get into the Disgaea series...
12. [360][PS3][PC] Zeno Clash II (Adventure)
Not my type of game
13. [PSV] Muramasa Rebirth (Adventure)
I had several chances to play this on the Wii but never tried it. If I didn't care about it back in the Wii, highly doubt I would want to play it now even on a portable system.
14. [PS4] Killzone: Shadow Fall (FPS)
Generally not into fps.
15. [PC] Gone Home (Adventure)
Been hearing about this a lot so I think I'll try it once I get a new pc and during a Steam Sale.
16. [PS3] Puppeteer (Platform)
I really want to play this, only tried the demo so far and I'm impressed. Theres the PSN deal, but I'm kinda short on money so I need to buy a retail copy. I will be busy starting Feb so won't have time for this.
17. [360][XB1][PS3][PSV][PS4][NWU][PC] Rayman Legends (Platform)
I just can't get into either Origins and Legends and I love platformers... forgive me gaf
18. [360][PS3][PC] Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (Adventure)
No idea about this game tbh, I'll check it out someday.
19. [NWU] The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Adventure)
Already played the GC version so I skipped it. Once I get some funds, I'll play the game again.
20. [PS3][PC] Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (MMO)
*sigh* MMOs are the bane of my existence... I quit playing them years ago.
21. [XB1] Crimson Dragon
Not really familiar with the series so pass.
22. [PS3][PSV][PC] Proteus (Adventure)
No idea about this game.
23. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 (Adventure)

24. [PSV] Killzone: Mercenary (FPS)
Generally not into fps.
25. [PS3][PSV][PC] Guacamelee! (Platform)
Still undecided on what platform I'm getting the game. Maybe I'll get it on Steam once I get a new pc.
26. [PC] Antichamber (Puzzle)
No idea with this game.
27. [360][PS3][PC] Metro: Last Light (FPS)
Generally not into fps.
28. [XB1] Killer Instinct (Fighting)
Generally not into fighting games.
29. [3DS] Senran Kagura Burst (Action)
I would love to try out the game but digital only is preventing me to do so. This seems to be the type of game I'll play once and never bother replaying again. And I need to resell games too in order to fund my gaming hobby.
30. [3DS] The Starship Damrey (Horror)
Been a fan of the Guild eShop games, I'll get it once its on sale again and if the timing is right.
31. [3DS] HarmoKnight (Rhythm)
Mixed impressions from the demo. Seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it type of game for me.
32. [3DS] Attack of the Friday Monsters! (Simulation)
Been a fan of the Guild eShop games, I'll get it once its on sale again and if the timing is right.
33. [3DS] Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Horror)
I'm not so sure about this one since I never played the original game.
34. [3DS] Mario and Luigi: Dream Team (RPG)
Want to play it but not really craving for it, will wait for a sale.
35. [PSV] Soul Sacrifice (Adventure)
Tried the demo but it doesn't seem to be my type of game * See MH3U*
36. [3DS] Kokuga (Shooter)
Since I'm using the Canada trick on the eShop, this wasn't listed for weeks and I just forgot about it. Heard that the game is kind of disappointment too.
37. [NWU][3DS] Mighty Switch Force! 2 (Puzzle)
Always wanted to try out Wayforwards eShop games but always never get the chance to do so.
38. [PC] Volgarr the Viking (Platform)
No idea about this game.
39. [XB1] Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (Platform)
I've played the first game and didn't like it much
40. [PSV] Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Academy (Adventure)
Can't wait for Danganronpa 1, hoping that this get localized too.

Also checked the overall list again, I totally forgot to vote for Streetpass: Flower Town and no one voted for it... Its my favorite of the new Streetpass games too.

Well for the record I loved TLoU and didn't like Uncharted 3 that much. It's a very different game. You should check it out at some point.

I'm honestly surprised at how many gaffers went with Bioshock Infinite given how many threads we've had about the negatives (the "overrated and repetitive" guy will be mad lol). I loved the world like everyone else though, and as one comment said the repetitive combat is evened out, so I completely respect this choice.

Everything else is great, wish Dual Destinies was a little higher but A Link Between Worlds was my GOTY so yeah haha.

I really liked it but my favorite action game of the year is W101. I think DmC is better than this one too.

Nice to see Tomb Raider on there. I know people have issues, but I think it was a very solid game. Linear and QTE'd in parts, but good gameplay overall with nice puzzles in tomb sections. The type of game I'd point to as an example of a "cinematic" experience done mostly correctly.

Legitimately shocked that not only did Mario make it to #4, but it topped Zelda despite the huge difference between their respective platform's install bases. If X comes out in NA & EU in the same year...may god have mercy on this forum.

I noticed I was on a few other people's lists too.

My recommendations:

1. [NWU] Super Mario 3D World (Platform) = 16 points I don't own a Wii U yet, but I'll probably play this. I had mixed feelings on 3D Land but I've heard that some of my complaints were apparently fixed here.
2. [360][PS3] Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Action) = 10 points I am so ashamed that I haven't played this.
3. [360][PS3][PC] Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (Adventure) = 8 points, 1 honorable mention This is going to be offered on PS+ this month so I'll play it there
4. [PS3] Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (RPG) = 6 points Eh, it looks beautiful but I've read enough bad things about the molasses-slow pacing and battle system to know to avoid it. My backlog is too big to justify adding this to it.
5. [NWU] Pikmin 3 (Strategy) = 6 points Again, no Wii U. I loved the first Pikmin and I actually still need to play the Wii port of Pikmin 2. I'll see if I still have an appetite for a third one after that.
6. [360][PS3] Grand Theft Auto V (Adventure) = 5 points, 3 honorable mentions Nope nope nope. I rented this from redbox a couple weeks back and put it down about four hours in. My experience consisted of watching a lot of cutscenes I didn't care about, same ol' braindead "drive to the GPS marker and do what the onscreen directions tell you" mission design, sloppy on-foot controls, stale humor...I'm sure it's better than GTA IV if I gave it a chance, but I think I've outgrown this series altogether.
7. [3DS] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (Adventure) = 4 points, 1 honorable mention I was going to buy this with the FE x SMT eShop promotion money, but I used that on Zelda instead. I'm still going to play this someday, since I enjoyed the previous mainline games. Maybe if Capcom puts it on sale.
8. [PC] Gone Home (Adventure) = 4 points I think I'll just watch a LP on youtube, if that.
9. [NWU] The Wonderful 101 (Action) = 4 points Another Wii U game. I've enjoyed all of Kamiya's games, so I'm definitely going to pick this up when I get the system.
10. [360][PS3][PC] Tomb Raider (Adventure) = 2 points, 1 honorable mention I played this! It's actually okay for what it is, but it's not what I want out of a Tomb Raider game. The sequel desperately needs more puzzles and tombs.
11. [PC] The Stanley Parable (Adventure) = 2 points My laptop is basically a half-step above garbage (I know you're thinking, "but this isn't that demanding?" but I don't think you understand just how terrible this computer is). I've been meaning to build a gaming rig for a long time but I'm going to wait to see how things shake out wrt specs needed to play next-gen multiplats. I'm interested in this game, though.
12. [PC] Civilization V: Brave New World (Strategy) = 2 points See above.
13. [3DS] Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Horror) = 2 points Not really interested. I haven't played the first one and I've heard bad things about the excessive dialogue.
14. [PC] Papers, Please (Simulation) = 2 points I considered buying this in the last Steam sale, but I figure by the time I get around to playing it it'll be even cheaper.
15. [360][PS3][NWU][PC] Batman: Arkham Origins (Adventure) = 1 point, 2 honorable mentions I own this, but I didn't get around to playing it before the deadline.
16. [360][PS3][PC] DmC: Devil May Cry (Action) = 1 point, 1 honorable mention I have this on PS+, and it's probably the next game I play.
17. [3DS] 3D Super Hang-On (Racing) = 1 point Hmmm. I'll have to look into this one.
18. [PS3] Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (Platform) = 1 point I still need to play ACiT. That's a higher priority for me.
19. [3DS] 3D Sonic the Hedgehog (Platform) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention I replayed the unlockable Sonic when Generations came out. I'm not in a hurry to play another version of it.
20. [PC] The Typing of the Dead: Overkill (Horror) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention Loved the original Typing of the Dead, so this is on my radar.
21. [NWU] New Super Luigi U (Platform) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention Kind of interested in this. Hopefully Nintendo will still have the NSMBU/NSLU bundle on sale when I get a Wii U in the farflung future.
22. [360][PS3][PC] Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (FPS) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention I'm more interested in playing FC3 proper.
23. [360][PS3][PC] XCOM: Enemy Within (Strategy) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention The vanilla game was my second place recommendation last year, but I still haven't played it. I'll try the PS+ version. It seems like a safe bet considering my love for Fire Emblem.
24. [PS3] Beyond: Two Souls (Adventure) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention Meh. Although Stumpokapow picking this as his GOTY has caused me to briefly reconsider, I'm still leaning against it.
25. [NWU] Lego City Undercover (Adventure) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention I played Lego Star Wars years ago. I think I've had my fill of these games.
26. [PSV] Tearaway (Platform) = 0 points, 1 honorable mention I feel bad about not getting this when it was on sale last month. Maybe the next time it goes on sale?

2. [3DS] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (Adventure)
enjoyed it, and forgot to list it as an honorable mention. still think it's one of the weaker ace attorney games.

3. [PC] Europa Universalis IV (Strategy)
looked into it and it seems interesting! i will check it out once it goes on sale or i get a steam machine to be able to play it.

4. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Simulation)
put about 20 hours into it. addictive monotony, like papers, please.

i don't have the machine to run this

i am staying away from this unless it goes on sale. i get the feeling it will be trash, like the first bioshock.

I totally procrastinated on the voting but I'm glad I did. I just beat Gone Home and honestly it takes #1 over TLoU for me. And I absolutely adore TLoU. At least it's top 20.

First of all, WHY IS RAYMAN SO LOW??? I'm also surprised Bravely Default didn't score at least a little higher, but hopefully that can be explained by the late launch and it will be redeemed next year after the US release.

It's really strange to see GTA 5 in the Adventure category. Isn't this a pure action-game? Granted, I've not played it, since I've never played any GTA post-3 (from my perspective 3 was one of the worst games I've ever played), but from that experience I cannot remember any Adventure elements in it (exploration isn't really needed, no puzzles at all in what I've played).

Anyway, fantastic work from all of you, really appreciate the amount of work put into this

. By the way, how are the recommendations computed? The closest five ballots summed up minus the games one has listed himself?

On to my recommendations:

1. [NWU] The Wonderful 101 (Action) = 16 points - Have it already (albeit only as a download). Fun game, a good recommendation for me, but not one of my favourites
2. [PS3] The Last of Us (Horror) = 12 points, 1 honorable mention - No PS3 and still somewhat hesistant becaus I hate Uncharted sooo much. Still, since a friend who usually has a similar taste as I do has recommended it to me so much, I'd like to give it a go.
3. [3DS] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (Adventure) = 10 points, 1 honorable mention - I've played this already, but it will probably be my 2013-pick of 2014; just didn't have the time to finish it, so I couldn't rank it properly. Ace Attorney is one of my favourite series though, so obviously a great recommendation!
4. [3DS] Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan (RPG) = 3 points - Don't know much about this game, I'll have to look it up
5. [NWU] Lego City Undercover (Adventure) = 2 points, 1 honorable mention - I hate GTA and I can't stand Traveller's Tales' work. The only thing I've ever played from TT that I liked somewhat was Sonic R and even that was very so-so.
6. [360][PS3][PC] Tomb Raider (Adventure) = 2 points, 1 honorable mention - Is this really a good idea if one hates Uncharted (and Hollywood-gaming in general)?
7. [360][PS3] Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Action) = 2 points, 1 honorable mention - Platinum Games is a nice studio, I like their work, so I'll probably like this one, too. Since I don't care for Metal Gear Solid much (stealth is too slow for me and I hate those awfully long sequences) I've not played it yet, though.
8. [360][PS3][PC] BioShock Infinite (FPS) = 2 points, 1 honorable mention - Shooter, thus will not play.
9. [3DS] Bravely Default (RPG) = 2 points - I have this game, again, only, as a download, and really liked it. Just forgot to put it under my honorable mentions, so a good recommendation indeed .
10. [PSV] Soul Sacrifice (Adventure) = 2 points - Played it, found it relatively boring.
11. [360][PS3] Grand Theft Auto V (Adventure) = 1 point, 2 honorable mentions - I've played GTA3 when it was new and hated it so much I've never played another game in the series. From my perspective, it was a collection of undercooked gameplay mechanics, a world that was big for sake of being big and unfocussed. It really seemed like "look, you can do all kinds of stuf you could do in real-life, no matter if it is a challenging, interesting, gameplay mechanic in itself". Is GTA 5 still worth trying if I think like this about GTA 3?
12. [NWU] New Super Luigi U (Platform) = 1 point, 1 honorable mention - Haven't mentioned it, because it is a DLC and not meant to be a full game. Still, I had loads of fun with it.
13. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Simulation) = 1 point, 1 honorable mention - Have it (for review purposes) and I think it's incredibly boring. The gameplay is more of an exercise of work, not challenging at all, not intriguing at all. While I can appreciate that it is very well designed, from my personal perspective, it's junk.
14. [PS3][PSV][PC] Spelunky (Platform) = 1 point, 1 honorable mention - I'm always a bit skeptical if a game is randomly generated. Considering it's free on PC, I might try it there and if I like it, get the Vita version. However, since it's DL-only, it really has to absolutely amaze me to be worth any money for me.
15. [PS4] Resogun (Shooter) = 1 point - Played it at Gamescom and it was my favourite PS4 game there. If I had a PS4, I'd definitely get it!
16. [NWU] The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Adventure) = 1 point - Have it; worst 3D Zelda with some fixes. If I didn't know this game already, it'd be a must-buy for me though.
17. [PC] Rogue Legacy (Platform) = 1 point - PC-only, might as well not exist to me.
18. [PS3][PC] Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut (Horror) = 1 point - Sounds interesting and since it's available as a retail game on 360 I might give it a go.
19. [PC] Civilization V: Brave New World (Strategy) = 1 point - PC-only again.
20. [NWU][3DS] Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Adventure) = 1 point - Definitely not for me.
21. [3DS] Shin Megami Tensei IV (RPG) = 0 points, 2 honorable mentions - There are so many RPGs I'd still like to play I don't think I'll ever play this one.
