Great results overall, HorrorGAF has good tastes... EXCEPT (IMO) for one thing, and that is Dawn of the Dead (1978) is not in the top 10.

Feel like not enough people have seen Perfect Blue. Wish there was more foreign stuff up there too, but solid enough picks, I guess.

ALIEN right where it needs to be. I like it.

This one was a lot of fun to see come together. GAF has some decent taste in horror.

edit: Dawn of the Dead just baaaaaaaarely missing the top 20.

Can't complain with that top 10 at all, they're all undeniably good to great films (half of them were in my own top 10, with Alien being my number 1 as well). No total left field choices, although I'm a little surprised 28 Days Later and The Descent made it in. Not that they're not good, but I didn't think they'd have enough clout to rank over some more obvious classics.

Pretty good consensus. Halloween and The Exorcist are personally even higher for me but whatever. Always liked The Thing but I never really considered it one of the best horror movies of all time.

Not bad. Good on ya, GAF. I'm not a fan of 28 Days Later and I think The Descent is just OK, but I can accept it. Repulsion is #18! That's pretty damn good!

Reads like 99% of the lists you'll find if you just google "top 10 horror movies"

That's generally what happens when you take an average of a lot of votes. The better known ones will get more votes, even if a wide variety of lesser-known ones get mentioned.

I think more of GAF needs to watch Trick 'r Treat. I mean I didn't expect it to get top 10, but only 36 points? :(

I really didn't care for it personally, though I've seen plenty vouch for it. I may check it out again. I just remember a really generic anthology-like film.

Kinda wish Perfect Blue had a spot on there, but I guess it doesn't really jump out as a horror film when doing these type of lists.

That Top 3, nothing wrong with that.

Surprised The Cabin in the Woods isn't higher considering it's a gaf list but the voting thread was only three pages.

Nothing super surprising here, but it's not like anything in the top 10 isn't at least super iconic, if not already a great film on its own merits.

I'm very surprised to see the Evil Dead sequel on the top 10, as I don't know anyone in my +30-year old circles who would put it above the original, which makes me think the voters were of the younger demographic. I'm also surprised to see Alien and The Thing on the top, eventhough both of them were on my top 20 as well. I wonder if it has something to do with it, that both of them are probably fairly popular among gamers.

31 is plenty high especially considering some of the films it's above. It's a fun movie, but belongs more on an imgur list of "horror films you should check out" than even a top 100 horror list imo.

Looks like Perfect Blue just missed the top 50. Some damn good movies at 50+, people should read it if they need something to watch.

True. I recognize it as a horror classic. Personally, the film just didn't affect me as much as it had on others.

Personally, I love it because it's based on my favorite King novel (although it's not very faithful adaption of it), and I love horror movies that put the characters into an isolated location as it usually increases the tension. I also saw it in the late 80's, and I think that many of the older movies lose some of their effect the later you watch them, which is probably why the Evil Dead sequel is ranked before the original. How many of the voters watched the original in the 80's, or watched the sequel first?

I have seen 9 of the Top 10!

Alien - Thought it was eh
The Thing - Didn't see
The Shining - Outright HATE
Halloween - Good for the time. I like it enough
The Exorcist - One of the greatest films of all time and I love it so so much
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - One of the SCARIEST films of all time and my go-to date movie. Awesome stuff
Psycho - Great film, nothing I say matters on it (moreso than usual, of course)
A Nightmare On Elm Street - Eh. Don't like it.
Evil Dead II - My absolute least favorite of the Evil Dead franchise and I hate it. Urgh
28 Days Later - Eh.

Wow, I am a lot less excited about the results than I thought I'd be, considering horror is my favorite genre. Oh well! Always happy to read lists! :)

Well I don't really know why you didn't expect extremely well regarded stuff like Alien, The Shining or Nightmare on Elm Street to not be on there.

No, that's not it. When I clicked it, I knew Alien would be number 1... in fact, you're absolutely right! I don't know why I didn't expect it.

I'm at least happy there are movies that I love on the list at all! :)

Yeah, like has already been said, it is very by the numbers. Pretty cool selections down the list though.

Sorry I didn't get my vote in. I felt my list would have been kind of weird because I've only seen a lot of the classics once and would have voted higher for the stuff I watch fairly frequently like Re-Animator.

I was probably going to pick Dellamorte Dellamore/Cemetery Man for #1 just to shake things up. Doesn't look like it would have made much of a difference. I wish I could have helped The Fly get a little higher though.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, inm8num2.

correct about everything
my last day vote got bride of frankenstein and the others into the top 50. grossly underrated movies, clearly.

A Nightmare on Elm Street makes the top 10, but Friday the 13th doesn't even appear in the top 50? I knew GAF had terrible taste.

That's a good list. Other than a bit of placement (Halloween should be higher) that top five is just right. Only complaint? Jaws should be on the top ten. I LOVED 28 Days Later, but Jaws is better at horror than it was. Also, Evil Dead II realllllly wasn't a horror movie guys. Possibly a horror satire, but that's even pushing it. First Evil Dead though would qualify, but wasn't as good.

I never found The Shining to be that Scary tbh.

The Descent is probably the only movie in the Top 10 that gave me slightly scary feels on my first view. ,,Horror" movies are good enough for me if they are suspenseful and exciting like The Thing. If you like mystery, horror is usually also a good source for well made stories, like The Shining.
Games are definitely the true horror medium for me, I don't think anything else will ever come close to the straight up fear of Silent Hill 1-3.

Indeed. HorrorGAF is bestGAF.

DotD no-showing is kinda inevitable given how overexposed zombies have gotten in recent years. When a monster becomes familiar, ubiquitous even, its loses most of its power.

Not a bad list at all. Only gripes I have is 28 Days Later being in the top 10 (I liked 28 weeks later much more) and classics like The Fly, Evil Dead, and Hellraiser being so low.

Glad to see votes for Suspiria.

Also, I never realized Tobe Hooper directed both Poltergeist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre before this thread. That's some serious range.

Edit: The Wicker Man (1973) getting so few points (4) is ridiculous.
