Ahhhh, these are the guys I keep hearing on the radio and keep intending to write their name down, but never do. Really good stuff.

Oh wow, completely missed Chris his post on them haha

Awesome you guys can discover such bands on the radio. That's unheard of in this country :O

Great news.

super talented girl from my school has been getting deserved praise by the online outlets including pitchfork and new york times.

Managed to get Stone Roses tickets. I am elated.

The wonders of digital radio. BBC 6 Music actually has well over 2 million listeners now, which is fairly amazing.

Yeah, DAB certainly helps I guess. Though even DAB included we don't have much here. The closest thing to alternative is Pinguin Radio here. They play a lot of music I like, though the chances of me discovering something new trough them are pretty slim. Think stuff like Tame Impala, Deerhunter etc. Established indie acts.

6 plays that sort of stuff in the day, but the evening shows are more specialist. And Iggy Pop does the Friday, which is just bizarre.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Does Awolnation belong in this thread? Just saw them live tonight, 4th time. I really think it's the best time I've seen them live. They even shredded on the guitar at times.

Just watched Deerhunter, bloody loved it. Though they did play the worst venue I know of, shepherds bush empire.

My friend was ill part way through, so I had to move to the back, but whatever.

They played fluorescent grey and nothing ever happens, so I'm happy.

Yeah, it was lovely. But shepherds bush empire is fucking awful. The stalls are overcrowded, you can't see shit (and I'm 6'1"!), and the sound is muddy.

Hopefully there's a few vinyl collectors in this thread. The album I linked a few posts back (Sports - All of Something) is listed as £2 on amazon.co.uk. Bargain for one of my favourite albums this year.

Sorry for the late reply guys, I was swamped with exams and other problems and today was the only free time I had to check out this bands.
Viet Cong and Girls Names have both released great albums this year.
I like Viet Cong, favourite track on the album is Continental Shelf, silhouettes and death. Wasn't much into Girls Names.

The Coneheads, Disappears (most similar to Total Control I think), Chastity Belt
Not quite sure about the Coneheads but I very much like Disappears and Chastity Belt.

Metz
Civil Civic
Young Knives
Kinski
Iceage
Algiers
Lower

I saw Protomartyr in the Metz concert, couldn't get over how much the vocalist looked like David Cameron, our prime minister :p Always had a drink on him and a hand in his pocket.
I love Metz, Civil Civic and Algiers, I like some of Kinski and Young Knives songs. I don't particularly like Iceage or lower for that matter,

The Libertines fall into the garage rock genre I guess. Their first album "Up the Bracket" was amazing.
Yes it was, I also like the first half of their second The Libertines, second half is a bit wonky and all there new stuff sucks.

Would like more bands to check out now that I have the holiday free.

We seem to have the opposite taste in post-punk, but here are a few others I really like from this year:

My Disco - Severe
Protomartyr - The Agent Intellect (You've probably heard it, but it kinda counts)
Yvette - Time Management EP
Ex-Cult - Cigarette Machine
Soft Kill - Heresy
Negative Scanner - S/T
The Soft Moon - Deeper

And it's not really post-punk, but it's close enough

Destruction Unit - Negative Feedback Resistor

Also The Miraculous is probably going to end up in my top ten after it's all said and done.

If you're okay with something a bit lighter, White Reaper's newest album is great. Just really fun, hard hitting garage rock https://whitereaper.bandcamp.com/album/white-reaper-does-it-again

I only know two things of that entire list. Except for a few most of them don't even get a hit in the biggest Dutch music database I know of. Are you one of those guys that's browsing bandcamp 24/7? :p

Just saw Father John Misty in Amsterdam (rather fittingly in former church venue Paradiso) Goddamn that man has a stage presence. Great show! On to Braids the day after tomorrow. And Le Guess Who next week. November is good :D

Ah cool man! It's a shame I'm in the middle of my exams, kind of wanted to see him too. But I have Death Cab on sunday and Le Guess Who? of course to look forward to. November is always a treat with Le Guess Who?

Saw Deerhunter last night, one week after the P4K Festival trainwreck.

It's like it wasn't the same band. Fantastic gig in a small venue, with really great sound.
I felt so overwhelmed during Nothing ever Happened i almost cried.

Bradford was chatty and funny and really into it (as the rest of the band). New Atlas sound tunes sound a lot like Panda Bear' Person Pitch Era.

The Dan Melchior might end up on mine as well, and I'm already playing that Housewives over and over good looks

thanks man i think highly of your taste in music too. your quarter lists are always appreciated

Saw Bully last night, awesome gig. Alicia really sounds like her record recordings live. Will definitely see them again next time they're touring here.

I had tickets to see Bully a month or so ago but it was just too far away and I wasn't in the mood to make the drive. Bummer.

Anyway, I'm finally listening to the Wolf Alice LP after hearing a lot of mixed opinions on it (I've been lazy this year and then my October was totally taken up by horror movies). I had pretty much no idea what to expect but I'm finding it really fun. Not groundbreaking or mindblowing, just enjoyable to listen to. So put me in the pro camp.

Edit: For those of you who, like me, derive pleasure from saccharine dreamy twee pop, (Nick Bassett and Lexy Morte side project) Camera Shy's self-titled debut is really good.

Just came back from Satellite Stories Gig and they were amazing. Just a bit disappointing that they didn't play much of the awesome new album but from all 3 of theirs evenly.

I think most people are pro. The main gripe though is that the record is a bit flat after having seen them live. They produced the living hell out of it. Could have used a bit more edge.

Maybe it's a good thing I haven't seen them live yet then. The album is definitely heavily produced, but it just felt like part of the aesthetic I guess. It didn't really even feel like it should have been more raw. And this is coming from a huge Steve Albini fan.

Yeah, I dunno, that's often a complaint I have with albums but for whatever reason I can't say it of this one. It just doesn't bother me. *shrug*

Yep, that record is full of decent songs that just sound a bit lifeless. They've been good both times i've seen them, so it probably is the production.

Damn, this is really nice. Thanks! Somehow missed that it came out.

Lexy Morte's other band Night School is pretty good so far also. Just one EP out, but it's quite good.

As someone who didn't t like the Wolf Alice debut as much as I hoped I would, due to its softer feel compared to their live performance, I actually warmed up to it the more I listen to it and surprisingly it ended up one of my most listened album in the later half of the year.

But yeah, not too hot on the folky feel it gives, the production just seems to be getting in the way of their raw talent.

OK yeah, that version is definitely better than the album version. Oh well.

Night School is supposed to be releasing their debut LP, Blush, sometime this year. Can't wait. Definitely a good year for Morte.

Seeing as they have a huge indie following outside Japan, I though it might be reasonable to post the new track(s) Spangle call Lilli Line has dropped, which is part of the new album Ghost is Dead, which is out today!

Echoes of S: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3zzphPSzRk
Ghost in the Closet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sRGHYY7dhk
escort and landing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr2M4HsWijM

They seem to upped on the Post-Rock feel they always seem to hide it behind their shoeagaze/indictronica style of plays. Love the violin/Piano/anything classical instruments they are including and the vocals remains to be best in the business.

The new album should be bloody amazing (their first in 4 years!)

Gothic albums don't get enough love in here
Ever listen to Dead Can Dance?

Their earlier stuff could probably be considered gothic in some ways. I remember enjoying most of their discography, even. Though it gets more into chamber music and/or world music as it goes along.

The first two:

Spleen_and_Ideal.jpg

I like Brendan Perry's solo work as well. His voice definitely suits the genre. Lisa Gerrard goes straight into the ambient/operatic direction which is a pleasant contrast.

I'm actually convinced their world music is a lot more gothic than their earlier stuff. Anastasis fills your ears with so much gothic atmosphere it's not even funny. I honestly like Gerrard's songs more, but that's just my preference. Perry is no slouch either though, just depends on what mood I'm in.

If you don't know about Clan of Xymox then you should fix that.

I know about both of those bands, c'mon, I don't need Goth 101...That's not what I was talking about, lol. I'm talking about new releases.

I need help with new as well. I can only suggest stuff from like the 80's and 00's lol. Ever hear of Collide? They're less gothic now sadly, but Chasing the Ghost and Some Kind of Strange are legit. A hidden gem is definitely Siddal, you would probably like Lycia as well.
