Thanks for the mention. It is time consuming doing the OT's I'll admit. It's something we all have to chip in and do. It's a bit difficult because not every game has an audience here any more. I even tried one for Unravel Two (and I bought and streamed that game anyway), and that felt a little flat. I think people are still intimidated that it needs to be an all singing, all dancing template. It doesn't. I'm not sure what is happening with communities but I think OT needs like an index or something, somehow.
Just a banner say 1000px x 400 with the title and then the rest can be text.
I think in general people just have to keep trying. Some threads like those by
IbizaPocholo
or ones by me just don't catch fire. They get like 4/8 replies. You just have to keep being tenacious and fight. I like the people here mostly, and I think we owe it to ourselves to create a little space free of dick measuring by post per page, last replied to etc. I get the sense that people here are real and could be people I just see when I'm out in town or passing through. I've been on loads of forums in the past. Some have like 100 active members about football. Some mod forums would only have 25 people on at a time - places like urban terror. You don't need the 'biggest' community. You need a good, honest, passionate community with a shared goal. The rest follows. I remember days of UT2K4 and the TCM's. People knocking up ASE filters for free just to help them out. They were so small at times it was difficult t get games, especially in things like SAS and Atlantis. We can do this together. Start small. Just create a thread a day to begin with:
We're all in this together. We each get a chance to lay our own brick.

The feedback we have received is that we lack current news and content, and that people don't feel it's "worth it" to make threads/content. It goes unappreciated.
So lets show people that their contributions are appreciated and providing it is worth it. Give the thread/OP a like. It takes 1 second to do. Ask yourself if you would appreciate the like?
I hate sounding like a youtuber asking you to hit the like button every video, but we need to show the people who are making threads and the people who feel it isn't worth their time that it is very much appreciated.
For those that said they want to help but can't devote much time, it's a perfect contribution to the project.
I will 100% be doubling my efforts here on out to practice what I preach.

Well made posts should get a like, but my primary denominator for a like is when it actually interests me first, and quality of post second. What I mean is simply if you read the thread, post in it, like it... make sure we give it that like.
We get to reading and enjoying the thread, but the OP and the responses. But maybe we are forgetting to show as a community that we like it, considering the few likes for a well crafted well received thread.

I'm a pretty low active user. My time on gaf is sporadic and can't really dedicate my time to much but even reading this thread makes me want to be more active in general. Makes gaf a great place to be. While I dont hammer those like buttons I do appreciate everyone that puts all the effort in.

I know it's still way early for any judgement, because when these initiatives show up, people tend to get more active, and then that activeness fades again over time, but for now it's really interesting to go to sleep, come back to GAF and see that Off-topic has about 70-80% new threads on the 1st page for me to read!

Yeah, I might sign up. While I can do both gaming and OT threads, gaming threads is my forte. I might have already said that in another thread, but I'll say it here now.
My suggestion would be to try to make the members feel welcomed and engaged into the community. If we can try to get them engaged without being too forceful, then they might join our site.
Then, once our reputation gets good enough, I believe we should attempt to ask senior members to join our forum. This mainly could include developers, creators of popular websites, notorious leakers, member willing for moderator, and more.
Of course, I'm not the best at welcoming, but I will do my best in this adventure.
Again, as I repeat: The beginning of a path has begun. A path... To the bright future.

While obviously GAF isnt as active as lets say 2 years ago, is it really that bad because any time I came here, there already was a topic on the newest gaming topic or game reveal. Im interested in the gaming news section as that is something I follow closely but I fell like every time I jump in, there already was a topic on it. This VGA was very well documented.

I personally are not attempting to recreate Old NeoGAF in numbers or what not. But I do want to increase visits and activity
- Activity increase so News Threads, OT's, and Overall content isn't something people feel are wastes of time because it doesn't get enough attention.
- We have a great functioning site, great Staff, and great community currently. Why not invest in it.
It warms my heart like the grinch hearing that you think the VGA's were well documented. A lot of people worked hard to make that possible.

Even though the VGAs were a smaller event, I got some strong NeoGAF 2013/2014 E3 vibes from seeing all the threads and activity pop up. I barely contributed threads because everything was covered so well by other posters.
