Seriously though, while Slayers is absolutely great fun and hugely enjoyabe, id have to reccomend His and Hers, even though I personally like it the least out of all the shows Hideaki Anno directed. The first half is just fantastic, period. The second half not quite yet still pretty damn good. Animation quality dwindles yet Anno finds ways to get creative about it. The end hurts it, not arguable. I believe they wanted to pursue a second season but the original author wasnt happy about how it was turning out, sad fact but thats how it is. I can forgive the flaws because I really love how most of the characters are developped, even the secondary characters are given good spotlight...Music is fantastic as well of course.
Anno left the project toward the end. The manga author objected to the direction he was taking with the show as you said, but he didn't care for the opposition and bailed. That's why everything went downhill -- they decided to finish out the season, but they couldn't really emulate Anno's style.

No, the ending is non-existant.
No, but it works out. I don't think KareKano is meant to have an ending, per se. The anime certainly doesn't, but I don't see how the manga can have a definitive ending, even if all the loose ends are tied up. It's about life, which doesn't really end. I don't think you can count that as a negative for the show.

So I said screw it and bought both, since I got some Chinese New Year money. One question though: I got my shipping confirmation today (guess all y'all must have hit the holiday rush or something) and the list only shows HHC discs 3-5 (but with the bundle). I know that on my order page on the site, it showed the bundle, plus all five individual discs, which I guess is just a clerical shortcut. Did anyone else's shipping confirmations show up like this when they ordered HHC, or am I going to have to call their CS?

Edit: Oh yeah, and just how many Slayers boxsets are there? I bought the first one, but now see that there are at least two more on sale this week.

Better call their customer service department. Right Stuf can be rather weird with ordering.

Well, the CS person thinks everything is alright. I'm rather concerned though, because apparently there was another order in my name for some title I'd never heard of costing over $100 that was made a full two weeks before I ever even heard of the site (Jan. 23, and my first post in this thread was Feb. 7). Fortunately, it was on hold for whatever reason, and I had them cancel it. The order was nowhere in my order status on the website.

Are the Slayers Next and Try boxsets worth $25 each as well? I suppose if I've bought the first one, I'd hate being left on some cliffhanger at the end of that. They are all just the same series but divided up, correct?

So I got His & Her today, and watched the first episode. I suppose I sort of knew by about 1/3 of the way through, what with the rather chaotic style, but I was still a little surprised when I saw it was made by the same people who made FLCL at the end credits.

Do all of RightStuf's DVDs usually not have any insert cards inside the cases? It's not that I really care, as long as I have the DVD, but it does seem a little cheapish, though for the price I won't complain. (I was a bit annoyed that one of the disc holder tabs for DVD 1 broke, so the disc had been sliding around a bit, but it didn't appear to be at all scratched, and so I just took an unused DVD case I had an slipped out the labels.)

I've bought stuff from Right Stuf before. I presume the lack of insert is only on those DVDs that Right Stuf has bought the rights to distrubute and not on any of the DVDs they sell by other companies. I did buy the first DVD of His and Her Circumstances way, way, way back with the art box but I don't recall if it lacked an insert. I'll check later tonight. Anyway, I still only have the first DVD of His and Her... Damn, I need to get the rest of the DVDs someday, even if I've not heard exactly thrilling things with how Gainax cheaped out on the animation and what not as the series progresses. Oh well, I'm sure it's still worth watching even if the manga may be better (the manga apparently goes much further with the story whereas the anime ends just as things supposedly are starting to get good). :p

The Slayers boxset DVDs don't have any inserts either. I did a search for rightstuf + "no inserts" and it seems there are a few mentions around of nothing that they sell having inserts.

Odd. But what about Witch Hunter Robin? Those DVDs came with one anime cell per DVD... I hope Right Stuf didn't jip people out of those sort of things (same with the clothes pins in Azumanga Daioh). :-\

I get this gripe all the time about Azumanga, especially #3.

Only the first 10k or 15k came with the pins. Every time someone's opened it and complained, the wrap didn't have the sticker noting the inclusion of a pin inside.

Same with Chobits pencil boards, etc.

From what I remember, every DVD I've ordered from Rightstuf has come with inserts... Not that they're terribly useful though.
