To be honest, it's been so long since I've held one, I don't even remember how NES boxes feel.
However, I'm pretty sure the cardboard wasn't the best quality.

Any opinion on the best golf game for NES?

Here's the bottom line, Grand Slam/Fighting Golf/NES Open are all good so first it comes down to Mario vs not Mario? Then it's Atlus vs SNK if "not Mario" is the choice.

That would be my guess. I'm sure they (the reviewers) got advance copies of the game to play and Nintendo most likely pulled the plug on mass production of the carts last minute.

"Earth Bound" for NES was actually mentioned a few times in early Nintendo Power.
Really? I guess I could see that happening since most of the NES issues hit when I was really young.
I bought Namco Classic for Famicom recently and it's pretty decent. And it's one of the Namco FC games that comes in those awesome hard plastic cases. To be honest that's the whole reason I got it hah. But it wasn't that bad. Granted I haven't played many golf games on the NES. There's some Japanese text in there but it's manageable.
But if you're just hurting for a golf game right now I'd probably just get NES OTG.
Yes! But the bosses are pretty damn hard. I think I haven't gotten past the level 2 boss yet! Should try it again soon.

Don't know the model, but it's for the Commodore 64.
I have an Amiga monitor (model 1081) with RGB scart input which has awesome picture quality, but sadly the left speaker gives out a constant buzzing sound. I wish I could fix it because it's great, but I suck at fixing electronics. Still keep it in storage for the day I might be able to.

Not in my experience. Music that sounds like noise, poor and sloppy gameplay, scatterbrained story. The team from Amagon and Totally Rad decided to make a Ninja Gaiden clone and this is what resulted. It feels like a Chinese bootleg, it is so janky.

Anyway, I took some pics of my collection. I tried to make them as sharp as possible but it was kind of hard since there wasn't really enough light today and I was standing on a chair while taking them lol. Didn't want to crank up the ISO too much either. Most of my games are PAL releases. You can click the images to view them full sized.
First here are my cartridges. I guess you have to view this one full size to be able to read the labels. Some nice ones in there. That's all the games I have, including the ones I have CIB because I keep the boxes in a drawer and the carts on the shelf. And including all my FC carts as well to the right. I took better shots of the FC games below.
CIB games. Rad Gravity is missing the manual though. The bottom ones are the ones in best shape. I'm especially happy about Mega Man 2 which is in really nice shape except for the corners. Blaster Master and Blades of Steel are really damaged but I got them for cheap. Dragon's Lair has the cartridge in the box because I'll probably never play it again. Got it for free from a friend. Edit: oh wait, looking now there are a few more games without manuals... but the majority is CIB.

I need to get more of those Namco games with cases. They're so cool. Just look at them!

I didn't take any photos of my consoles because that's nothing special. But I have 3 NESes, one American and two Scandinavian ones. All three with new connectors. The American one has a connector with gold-plated pins. I also have two almost brand new controllers (they were unused when I bought them). Oh and a PowerPak flashcart as well.
Am I missing something essential? Here's a list of my games for easier reading. If you think I'm missing something essential then please recommend away! I've probably forgotten about it.

Surprised to not see Chrontendo mentioned. A link should absolutely be in the OP and it should be mandatory watching for any NES fan. This is the definitive web video series about the Famicom/NES. A chronological playthrough of every single Famicom/NES game, starting with Donkey Kong in '83. It's got tons of interesting and obscure info on games and their developers and Dr. Sparkle (the presenter) has a very soothing voice that's just great to listen to. (and the way he says "Neen-ja" is awesome). He's currently up to mid '89 and there's something like 45 episodes out (each from 1h to 1h20m long)... He also is doing the chron-gaming thing for the Sega Master System/Genesis and PC Engine.
Oh yeah, Chrontendo! I was gonna mention it earlier but somehow forgot. 
I second the notion of putting it in the OP. It's the show that really gave me appreciation for NES/FC games. It's easy to think a lot of NES games suck today, but seeing all the kusoge on that show puts things in perspective. It's a Commodore 64 Monitor the Commodore 1702, The tube was made by JVC. An alternate model is the 1701.
It's tiny but the Image is nice and clear.

Great adventure game, with a score to match.
Has a translation patch, but one of my best friends finished it without knowing a word of Japanese.
And for all soccer-loving GAFers, this is a must (even if it is not Konami):
Captain Tsubasa vol. II: Super Striker.
A great combination of Soccer and RPG, seasoned by the awesome Tecmo Theather cinema screen system, and a incredible soundtrack

I have heard that this game engine was the basis for Ninja Turtles 1 on NES.
Edit: Now that I watch the video, no doubt about it. Swings the sword the same way, same sound effects, and the same sidescroller/overworld gameplay.
My life changed forever the Christmas I received the NES. If Nintendo would FINALLY get the ball rolling for the 3DS eShop I could be reveling in the nostalgic glory.
I loved this game, but never could manage to beat it.

I think I'm going to end up getting a top loading NES and an adapter to play Famicom stuff on it. I'd need a 60-72 Pin Adapter, right?
I think Vice: Project Doom looks and plays great. Didn't get that feeling at all. One of my favorites, actually.
Guess you'll just have to try it and find out for yourself. This is the first time I've come across such a negative opinion of the game, though.
Yes. Although you won't get extra sound channels in games that has any that way. But at least with the regular NESes it's possible to modify the motherboard to allow for it. Then you also need to mod the adapter itself. It involves soldering but it's apparently very easy to do. What you do is you solder a 47k capacitor between two points on the motherboard. And I assume that you do something similar with the adapter as well. I haven't done this mod myself but at one point I was about to let a dude around here do that as well as mod my PAL SNES for 60hz, and he mentioned the adapter part. I never got around to doing that though...
Not sure about the top loader though. It might not be possible because I believe that one of the two points on the motherboard is from the expansion port underneath the regular NESes, and I don't think the top loaders have expansion ports. But the motherboard might still have the necessary pinouts, just no expansion port. I'm not sure.
But either way, there aren't a whole lot of games with extra sound channels luckily. I still don't have any for example, though I only have 22 FC games so far. But MOST of the popular ones doesn't use them. There are some exceptions though, like Castlevania III and Gimmick.

Speaking of FDS, here's my collection of those! I tend to only buy boxed and complete FDS games, the manuals are pretty cute.
And finally, what game room would be complete without "tower of crap next to boxed stuff" (square button famicom, round button famicom, av famicom boxed, then a pile of "other famicoms", a TV-Game, and N64)

I never really sat down and counted how many boxed games I had. 19 is pretty good. Though Bubble Bobble is missing the cartridge, I only have the box and instructions. Eventually I'll find a good price on the cart and complete it once again.
Not pictured: Renegade, but who cares? With Mach Rider and Gradius, all I have left is the instructions. I need to remedy that situation one of these days.
Little Mermaid and Trojan I actually got at Goodwill for $.99 each. too bad I never see those anymore. I also got Rad Racer at Goodwill recently because it was inside an NES I bought there. Sometimes they don't check if one is inside.

Hehe Rad Gravity indeed. As a kid I could never get past that stage where they steal your ship computer and you have to get it back. So I almost never played it. But when I got that game again from a friend I beat that stage the first time I tried.
It actually gets a lot better after that point I thought. It opens up much more and you're free to go pretty much wherever. Still haven't beaten it though. It is kind of a shitty game overall but somehow it's still oddly compelling haha. I wish I had the manual since it has a pretty rad comic in it.
Also regarding Shadow Warriors, I've seen other European releases that has a slightly different boxart, where the protagonist doesn't have a ninja mask on and instead you can see his face. The Scandinavian one is like that. The one I have is French I believe. Not sure why they would do that, though maybe it has something to do with the fact that Europe seemed to have something against Ninjas back then for some reason.
Does anyone know why Europe hated ninjas back then? It was also in TMNT which was Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in Europe. Did some politician get assassinated by a ninja or something?
