When we last discussed this in here I found this handy FAQ on famicomworld.com. You can buy any local power adapter that matches those ratings.
http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=6933.0

It should output DC between 9 and 11 V and be center-negative. Barrel size 5.5mm x 2.1mm, which is a very common size. Amperage doesn't matter as long as it's above 850mA, so a 1A one would be fine. It is VERY important that it outputs DC and not AC though!

This is assuming of course that the AV Famicom takes the same adapter as the regular famicom, but I think that's the case.
It also says in that thread that the Genesis 1 adapter indeed works.

Thanks! I actually ran into that page before I posted so I just wanted to make extra sure. I passed up on a Twin Famicom for around the same price to get the AV Famicom since it looks like I can just use the M1 Genny adapter. Sorta wish I went with the Twin now though since I hear you can use a PSOne adapter with a different tip.

Always been curious about Felix the Cat. I'd love to hear impressions if you play it.

Its probably been 20 years since I played it, but I really enjoyed it back then. Even after I had a genesis for a few years. Oddly enough it was one of the few games my great aunt had at her house.

are you not doing NES RGB mod work right now? I think I sent a PM but no response. If not its cool. Thanks.

Yea I sure am. I must have missed your pm, or didn't get it. Feel free to send another. Im sending out my last one tomorrow and aside from an rgb game gear mod I'm totally open.

I guess there's Joy Mecha Fight but I'm not sure if that counts.

Looking more along the lines of something action/shooter/platformer, or maybe some RPG I might have missed.

Robo Warrior/Bomber King is alright. The sequel for GB is better.

Yeah that wasnt too bad, snagged it at a thrift store awhile back, and had no clue that it would be something bomberman related. Took me awhile to figure out why the stage was looping. Didnt know there was a sequel though.

Anyway I see to be on a real NES kick as of late.

1CC'd Super C for the first time! Actually seemed a little easier than Contra. Still challenging at parts, since I was stuck with the standard gun during certain bosses (That skull ship and the skull statue). Of course this is the first time i've played it single player. So maybe not having a friend/family member jacking my lives helped lol. Make no mistake, its still much more fun 2 players.
Next up is Little Nemo, which is semi-fresh for me since I never made it past the House of Toys back in the day...

That feel when you realize Little Nemo is more challenging than Super C...

I've always liked how final Capcom game stages really let you know that its serious business time.

Also I always thought that thing on his back was a bag of candy or something! You mean he had the morning star all that time, and just never knew how to use it?!

lol I know, its just Capcom didnt feel like making two different Nemo sprites.

Good day, installed new 72 pin and killed the lockout chip and everything works. Now I realize how bad it looks after seening only irishes rgb nes lately. Need to get that done but lord is it costly

Ooh, Chubby Cherub! I never played it but remember really wanting it for some reason back when I was little... ended up getting Zelda 2 instead, and still never having played the game. How is it?

eh it was a early release not much to it just fly around and dodge stuff and eat fruit its pretty simplistic its just really rare

Anyone know the rough vale difference between a AV Famicom and a top-loading NES?

I have the latter but all (4 of) my 8-bit games are Famicom and was wondering if I should just trade my friend for one of his AVs.

Well toploaders are rf only. So if you want composite video you should get an av Famicom. You would also get expanded audio from the av famicom if your games support it.

Any Europeans/Australian know a good source apart from Ebay of PAL games?

I'm collecting the silver box Konami games complete and in at least 8/10 condition), and some are only silver box in PAL. And I stupidly sold off my:

Metal Gear
Snake's Revenge
Probotector I and II

Before I started this mission.

They'll turn up on ebay eventually for decent condition and prices I guess. Just have to keep on top of it for however many months it takes!

So if I were to want an AV Famicom modded with S Video (since apparently it doesn't natively do it. Ugh), about now much would it run me? Sorta considering just buying one already modded. I don't care about RGB or HDMI or any of that, literally just S Video, so if that makes it cheaper then that's what I'd be doing.

Sixteen-bit is right.

The RGB board and materials run around $100 and the installation would be around the same, depending on who is doing it.

I'm kind of mad we got hosed with the Ultra Games packaging on some of these in the US...

wanna punch myself in the face for not buying little samson for when it was going for 50-60 loose cart ugh saw one going for over 1k loose cart

I've got a story like that with Swordmaster. Saw it for like 15 bucks, thought it would go down in price / i'd snag it next week.

Nope. Literally the next week, all copies magically skyrocketed to like 60 bucks.

Purchased Sword Master for $5 at a garage sale back in 2005. The game is nothing to write home about (and is eerily similar to Castle of Dragon - admittedly a bit better though).

I don't have it anymore. I believe I unloaded it somewhere for a few dollars, not unlike Hagane which I sold for around $15 on Digital Press a few years back.

I thought I had bought Sword Master right before it jumped in price, but as I looked over my shelf, it turns out I was thinking of Dragon Fighter.

It's amazing how large my collection was when I stopped and I still missed out on stuff that's getting more valuable now.

Hey guys, this is my first official foray into the world of NES collecting.

My first buys are a couple boxes. I'm glad to have grabbed the box for SMB3, but the Chubby Cherub box is my better find. Now I'm hunting for the manual...

Nice! How is Conan?

Oh man. That is probably one of the worst games ever released for the NES or any other platform. As I understand, it was a borked conversion of Myth for the Commodore 64, which is actually supposed to have been a good game, but this version is just a complete unintuitive and unresponsive mess to control and to play, and it has the unique distinction of being a C64-to-NES port where they didn't make any effort to upgrade the graphics, so even for an NES game, everything looks washed out and blocky.

As soon as I saw the photo of the cartridge, I cringed.

Ok. Anyone on here that can do an NESRGB install on a Twin Famicom? I have the NESRGB, i just need someone to install it under 100 bucks. This damn NES is going to kill me. I'm like $400 in already.. LOL

PM me if you can

Blew through all of Rockin' Kats (aka New York Nyankees) including the epilogue to test out the RGB-modded toaster I just got back from Bapho. It's pretty great! =D

Played some Shatterhand, Street Fighter 2010, SMB and Mega Man to round it off.

Thanks for the heads up

Ordered. Fuck yeah. Didn't expect them back so quickly.

Another heads up. US orders seems to have shipped with firmware 1.5 which turned out to be buggy:

"Batch #3: In May 2014 some boards with buggy V1.5 software were sent to customers in the US, Japan, and Korea. This is a minor bug which only seems to affect the background in a few games (Mario 2, Metroid). The solution is to upgrade the software on the board to V1.7. If no programming hardware is available an alternate hardware modification can be performed as described below."

Is it bad that I consider the NES version of DQIV to to be the best version? The limited palette leads to my imagination going into overdrive, the 8 bit music sounds really great (especially the tower theme). It lacks some of the nice features, such as the 6 chapter from the PSX version, but makes up for it with a superior script to the DS version

Was curious if any had been shipped yet, since mine hasn't (ordered 10 AM Thursday). Was hoping by some miracle it'd arrive this week so I could give it to HaL64 before I leave for vacation this weekend. Don't think that's happening.

Where does the US distribution actually ship from?

EDIT: Guess it says Ohio. Not far then, maybe it'll get shipped tomorrow and be here by Friday. Come on!

Not at all, Dragon Warrior on the NES is the shit.

Nope, I prefer it... hell the 'olde English' translation of the NES games is much more charming than the overly punny translation the modern DQ games get. Also the world map on DQ4 DS seems a lot tinier for whatever reason. The NES game seemed so much more 'epic' at the time.

Do any of you know how upgrading of the firmware works? I know that you need some kind of JTAG USB Blaster but is it just plug and play? Or do you need to install something unto the NESRGB board before blasting away?
