NES/Famicom Appreciation Thread

Been waiting the whole month for those extender cables, and since I dont want to move my Famicom now that it was put so perfectly in place, I ended up not playing Shatterhand. A shame since I had really looked forward to it :(

Hope I can join next month though!

My Blinking Light Win from Arcade Works finally arrived. Been waiting since last october for this! Might finally be able to replace the pin and play Castlevania III again.

My extender cables that I got from ebay (which I think everyone else buys), one was defective. It only responded to the A button. A shame. That's OK I only needed 1 at the time, I prefer to use none if possible.

I went with the raphnet-guy that was recommended here, and im sure he makes quality stuff, however, the cables are nowhere to be seen unfortunately. What is standard when stuff disappears in the mail like this? Should i ask for a partial refund or new cables, or just take the loss and buy new ones?

Looking over the voting responses so far, I will say this: It's closer than you think for some of the games. Nothing's a runaway winner this month, so if there's something you want, make sure you vote.

Is there any specific fix for jail bars? I've refurbished this front loader from parts of 3 NES systems that gave their best parts so this one might live, as well as getting a new 72 Pin connector, and I snipped the lockout chip pin. Life got in the way and I haven't touched it in a year. Now every cart I put in it has these ugly jail bars. Other than the obvious cleaning issues thay may have cropped up from it being idle for a year (and with a cart in it :/), is there anything specific to look for?

Only the first five have clamshells, which came out when those games were re-released later in the FC life cycle. But yeah, I'm hoping to collect the boxes to all 18. They look so sharp! And many of the games are stone cold classics.

i got my first next game:

shipped in a single piece of newspaper and non padded envelope.
i got it for 18 plus 3 bucks shipping, thinking of keeping it at the price.

A non padded envelope? So.. a regular envelope? That's pretty crappy. What did they think the newspaper would do? Lol... Sorry man

Uh oh, it's March, that means I need to do a Batman and Superman game this month since the movie comes out late this month. I'm definitely doing Batman NES playthrough. As for Superman, well, I'm definitely not doing the NES Superman game, lol.

I heard there is an interesting one on the N64, perfect for a pro-player like you!

About the cables, just wanted to say that Raphnet have offered a reshipping if they dont arrive in two weeks, which is great customer service imo. So if anybody need cables, I guess I can recommend him :)

Oh...that's even worse!!!

Its a good challenge though. I actually bought this game a few years ago, based on its low price and infamous reputation, and I almost managed to beat it. Its a seriously terrible game though, must have broken a lot of small hearts when they plugged it into the machine back in 99.

I played it and hated it.=O I'll just check out Sunsoft's Superman game on Genesis.

What's wrong with Superman on NES? Seriously wanna know your thoughts. I liked that game as a kid!

You liked it?=O It could had been designed better in areas IMO but it's not completely terrible. I would prefer a Superman game I can no death in less than a month though.

I came by to say I'm happy that people chose Shatterhand for last month pick. I have fond memories with that game. One punching bad guys for justice.

I still need to buy it.

Timu: I dunno, maybe play that Superman game Sunsoft was making before it got cancelled? Or a patch of Sunman, the game they tried to turn it into when the license fell through, but with some Superman hack applied atop it.

That sounds awesome!!!

Shatterhand is tier 1 until the last stage. Then this cheap bullshit level ruins it. I'll post impressions after I finish. But I only died twice the whole way here. Now? Fuck this stage.

Alright just finished it. Turns out Final Stage-A is a bitch and just not a lot of fun, and then it check points you permanently at Final Stage-B, which is really, really nice. The final boss was a pushover even with my green guy.

Now that I've finished it, despite that poor Final Stage-A section, I'd still say Shatterhand is a tier 1 NES title. Great graphics, amazing tunes, tight controls. It's maybe a little short and the BBB powerup is a bit OP, but it's a ton of fun and I'm glad we did it for this month.

Super curious to see what we end up playing in a couple of days...

It's a game I'd never heard of until I got involved in this thread a couple years ago. And I was around for the NES back in the day and started collecting in 98 (with a few years off). Really glad we picked it, too.

BBB is the best IMO. I'm glad we did this game as well.

No way. The last level's checkpoint is harsh, but it's totally fair. Probably the best part of the game; it really feels like a gauntlet.

The Youtube effect happened again.

Sky Kid on the NES is ranging around 40 bucks on eBay after being featured on James and Mike Mondays.
